I know I am thicker than the average bear but I find the stats page on the wiki a little confusing and am seeking some clarification.
I understand thast a new player has a stat cap of 300 and a max of 125 in any one stat. I want to increase my cap and my individual stats to say 150/150/50
If I use a max stats scroll to increase my max stats to 350 (courtesy of the ED stone) will this allow my individual stats raise above 125 or do I also need to obtain +5 individual stat scrolls to raise individual stats above 125?
Also can you only gain a stat if you also gain a skill point? For example if I am at skill cap, say 120 mining, will I still be able to get STR gains from mining or do I need to be using a skill that is not at cap?
A couple of questions on Stats
Re: A couple of questions on Stats
nope you must use 5 individual stat scrolls for each stat (or whatever stat you want). Max stat scroll increase your total stats cap not individual.Rhodry wrote: If I use a max stats scroll to increase my max stats to 350 (courtesy of the ED stone) will this allow my individual stats raise above 125
you can gain stat, independed your skill cap.Rhodry wrote: Also can you only gain a stat if you also gain a skill point? For example if I am at skill cap, say 120 mining, will I still be able to get STR gains from mining or do I need to be using a skill that is not at cap?

Re: A couple of questions on Stats
A bit contrary to the post above - you can gain a stat when you *would* gain a skill point. Internally the game game still gives you skillgains even when your skill is maxed, it just doesn't increase. So it's more difficult to gain stats off 120's than 0's since the skillgain rate for higher skills is slower. This also makes success-based skills worthless to level stats on, because if you have 100 said skill you have 100% success chance = 0% skillgain rate. Thus you can gain stats (slowly) off combat skills at 130 even, but cannot gain by hiding if your Hiding skill is 100.Also can you only gain a stat if you also gain a skill point? For example if I am at skill cap, say 120 mining, will I still be able to get STR gains from mining or do I need to be using a skill that is not at cap?
To answer the specific question - you can only gain STR off Mining if you mine metals without 100% chance of success (that would be Plat, Electrum, Toxic and Ice I think).

Re: A couple of questions on Stats
here is a suggestion:
the +50 stat scroll from the ED stone in Trinsic costs 500ED (i believe) which is approx. 25 million gold. one option is to buy from a player a +35-45 for significantly less gold ie. approx. 3.5 - 5.5 million. to get your dex to 220 is good, but the extra strength and corresponding hp less so. you will pay in addition to the 500ED, 50ED for 2.5hp. or 250ED for just 12.5hp. that is very expensive in my opinion. the +35-45 will last u a long time and if you are lucky enough to get a +50 one day, go for it, but if not not worth it. many veterans still today only have +40 or +45 for this reason.
