Event scheduling system

Post by Tacityl »

This might be way too big a feature to add, but here goes ...

I'd like to see some sort of player-run event scheduling system that was accessible in-game. It could be used for things like grouping up to kill Peerlesses, doing champion runs, RP events, duelling, guild stuff, auctions, fire sales from vendors, whatever.

Forums and other external ways of managing events are always problematic. Not all players use the same calendaring apps in their personal lives, given how spread out over the globe everyone is. And not everyone thinks to check the forums when they log in. The town crier can do 1 message at a time, and isn't something that is searchable and filterable.

There could be a new in-game command, [calendar. When used with no arguments, it just pulls up a GUMP with events that players have scheduled within a certain delta of the current time, say -12 hours to +48 hours. You'd want to see recent events in the past so that you could join something in progress (and possibly starting late) if allowed. Additionally, a player could supply arguments to filter the events listed, e.g. [calendar auction to see auction events.

Players (and staff!) could post new events with the [event command. The GUMP for that would allow you to enter at least the following data:

Name of the event
Type of the event (RP, sale, auction, kill something, other, etc)
Description
Start date/time
Duration
In-game location to meet up

There would need to be a way to cancel events, of course.

Things like invitations, private events, etc. would be nice, but probably out of scope. The biggest bang for the buck would be just having some kind of stripped down Google calendar that all players could see.
