Some Verification?
Mules.. WIKI says 86.6 taming.. but I see people with 40 - 50 ish taming riding them all the time.. is there a different stat? 86.6 to tame a mule from MOA spawn, but only 30 taming to ride/control one thats been bred?
New players (young) with very little if any taming seem to be capable of riding them.. even if they dont listen when commanded.. and non young players with mid level taming seem to be using and controlling them. (with minor difficulty) So..... if possible.. Could we get some Clarification on exactly what skill is required when?
Thanks!! KP

Re: Some Verification?
they are probably wearing jewelry that boosts their animal lore... control is about lore not taming
Re: Some Verification?
I am gm lore and have even fed my pet repeatedly. He seems to just want to do his own thing. Won't listen at all. Advice?

Re: Some Verification?
Try getting off your animal and punching it.
Get back on it and dismount once again.
Giving it commands should then work.
A Veteran Player once suggested this to me when I was new and in your exact situation.
Good luck with err... punching your animal.

This is referred to as the MONGO method.

Re: Some Verification?
i believe you need 110 Animal lore to make the mules listen to your commands. As Draconomicon mentioned, you can dismount your mule, attack it (bare handed) and leave war mode. It will then follow you for a while instead of running off when you're dismounted.

110 lore? I have extra characters for other purposes. like breeding.. with 100 taming 100 lore, and they never argue.. asked wife, who also has 100/100 and she said hers never argues.. three or four examples does not make a scientifically factual experiment... however.. it does prompt me to ask once again for some clarification.
Re: Some Verification?
The lore and taming are not simply set values you need to have to control a pet - they are sort of modifiers. You can look how they work at http://www.uocraft.com/taming/pet-contr ... alculator/ although be aware this calculator is made for OSI, not Excelsior, so values WILL NOT BE THE SAME. Still, it can be used as a rough estimate for the skill required.
A more personal observation is that with 100 lore (which is easy and fast to do) you need about 10 points under the taming requirement to control a pet. So a 80 taming pet should be controllable at 70 taming/100 lore.I assume more lore would allow for an even lower taming. Still, this is only an observation, not hard data - use as a rule of thumb, at most.
Also, I might sound cynical, but you can't actually see other player's skill, so just because you think someone has 50 taming doesn't mean they can't have 70 or 90 or 120. Or equip a jewelry to boost it over their base cap. Rule of "teh intrnetz" - never believe anything based on the word of someone you don't know well (or at all).

Re: Some Verification?
Nope, i cant see other characters skills, but I do know when my son started (young) he could control his mule with 40 taming and 0 lore and used it in the newb champ at two days old.. I can only assume that being YOUNG allows control for a time.. and still seek clarification
As for the Lore reducing the amount of taming needed, that would answer some of the questions IE; having 70 taming / 100 Lore.

Re: Some Verification?
Had a guildie use mules when his skill was just purchased, so in the 30's. We didn't believe him at first, checked and rechecked and he was undeed using mules with skills in the 30's. I think the wiki shows the required skill to tame but to use them the requirements are much lower.

Re: Some Verification?
This topic interested me so i figured i'd try it
me and redforussia tried it with an alt, with 40taming and 0animal lore.
He could ride the mule ect but couldn't control it, so it has nothing to do with the young player status and im not quiet sure why it is allowing use at such a low level, because he couldn't tame it with that level of animal taming either...
Hope that kinda helped verify that its possible, even if i can't explain why :s

I don't suffer with insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.
Re: Some Verification?
Spendy maybe try again after purchasing lore from the trainer. Im not sure you can control many animals with zero lore.
