July 4th Quests and Hunting Event

Post by +Veritas »

Greetings hunters and questers! It is time for another hunting event. Also, there will be three other quests to do.

For the next 3 weeks, participants will be hunting the Excelsior Kodiak bear.
Killing these bears will yield a trophy. Look on their corpses for these trophies:
They will vary depending on the bear's weight, claw length, and the overall quality of it’s pelt. These trophies are not permanent items, so there is no need to collect hundreds of them. Also, they are bound to you when you kill the bear, so no sharing your trophies with friends and guildmates (I can tell if you do, and it will result in disqualification). Your trophy quality areas are used to calculate your total score at the end of the quest. The score ranges are as follows:

Weight: 200-800 lbs (x 0.1) [Example: Weight of 217 = Score of 21.7]
Claw Length: 1-12 inch [Score of 1-12]
Pelt Quality: Poor (10), Fair (15), Average (20), Above Average (25), Superior (30), Peerless (35) [Score of 10-35]

Total Score = Weight Score + Claw Length Score + Pelt Quality Score

Participants are allowed to submit only one trophy during this event, so it is to the advantage of each player to only keep their highest valued trophy and trash their lowest ones. All trophies are bound to their looter and will not be counted if this person is different from the one submitting the trophy. There is nothing against keeping a few extra trophies for decoration, but keep in mind that they are temporary and will be deleted after the completion of the quest.

The last hunting day will be July 26th and will end at 6:00pm shard time. After this time, there will be a 3-day period where players can submit their trophies. On July 29th at 6:00pm shard time, submissions will no longer be accepted and the results will be calculated. There will be multiple rewards for the highest scoring participants as well as a general reward for all participants. Please remember the dates and times of importance. If you are unable to log in during the 3-day period after hunting, then you will need to submit your best trophy prior to the July 29th deadline.

All trophies are submitted by dropping them into the chest inside the hunting cabin. The portal to the cabin is found above the world teleporter in Trammel Papua.

Please Note:
-One submission per account. Multiple submissions on one character or account will disqualify you from the event.
-When you submit your trophy, you are done with the quest. There are no redos or "I accidentally submitted the wrong trophy" excuses that will result with a resubmission.

About the Excelsior Kodiak:

The Excelsior Kodiak is a bear with brutish strength. Not only does it’s attack cause prey to bleed for a long time, but the bear’s saliva has a potent natural toxin.

The Excelsior Kodiak is found roaming in all areas of the Hunting T2A area. The Hunting T2A area is an exact copy of Trammel T2A, but with no functional towns and randomly spawning monsters. Hunting T2A can be accessed via a portal inside the hunting lodge in Trammel T2A (Accessed by going to Trammel Papua by world teleporter, going through the hunting lodge portal upon arrival to Papua, and then entering the portal next to an NPC named Clive in the hunting lodge).

Rewards list to come later...

Additional quests are accessed by talking to the NPC’s found in Hunting T2A. They are in/near two buildings found by walking north along the road as soon as you cross over into Hunting T2A.

The two quests for armor pieces can only be done once per account, but the treasure quest can be repeated.

Important notes for survival:
-Spawns are random, so it is possible to run into a Balron in a place you didn’t previously.

-There are ankhs, 3k gold corpse stones, and 3k gold pet summon stones on every bridge on the map. When in trouble, look for a bridge. It would be a good idea to have UO Auto Map running when working these quests. Other locations where ankhs and stones are found are as follows: Enter/exit portal, near quest npcs, in stone building within the city of the dead, front of Hunting T2A Delucia bank, center of the desert island area (there is a natural “X” the center of the island forms), the northern most peninsula on the desert island, far east side of the northwest snow area, and far west side of the northeast snow area.

-The Quest NPC area is guarded.

Happy Hunting, and Happy July 4th!

Not sure if you are aware or interested in this since the event is just about over but 3 times in the past few days I have been battling a bear and it just poofs on me. It didn't run away and I missed it. It just POOFED! Gone! Not sure if others have had this problem or not but I thought I would let ya know. I never had a problem until just the past few days.

That did happen to me last week! I thought I must have hit my claim button too quick but evidently it did poof on me. Glad to know that senility isn't as close as I thought it was.

I'm not sure, but I think +V added a spawner that forcibly respawns the quest mobs so that if any were in stuck areas or led off too far to be useful they wouldn't affect the number of available mobs for very long. It's likely that you got unlucky and this happened while you were in battle, and unfortunately there's nothing we can do to avoid that happening without removing the spawner that respawns the quest mobs. If we did that, then there'd be a bunch that were in in accessible areas and whatnot. I'll ask V about it, though, just to verify.

Thanks +Nyx It isn't that big of a deal seeing as the event is about over. I was just curious cause I never had that problem until recently.

Just verified with V - it does seem to be what's happening. The spawner is set to respawn them every 8 hours. It seems you guys have just gotten "lucky"

I tried to add a Bear Trophy to the chests at the hunting lodge today: it seems they are both full. What should I do? =-)

Good event, but disapointing ending.... If you ever do another quest like this, the message is to all player.
I had a 778/12/peerless bear head which was in top 5. and i've got "disqualified" because ive put my bear head on the ground to show it to a guildies..... So if you ever do another quest (DONT PUT YOUR TROPHY ON THE GROUND) or probably the same thing that happens to me will happen to you, i hope not, but thats whats happening to me right now and i'm frustrated.I've spend much time in this event and i'm not a liar of some sort and im not trying to subdue anyone i just try to share my experience with other so that won't happens to anyone. Hey i 've just lost 10 millions gold or so.... as a father of 2 it's really hard to gather that money. Sad Ending, finished complaining just gave my point of view!

The rules are pretty clear on sharing trophies. You claim you only dropped a trophy on the ground, and never let anyone else pick them up, but yet another player submitted a trophy that was bound to your account. While we don't necessarily think you did this on purpose to cheat, and understand that it could be an honest mistake, you must also take a moment to see it from our point of view. For every event we put on or area we open, people attempt to cheat. After years and years of watching this happen every single time without fail, we have all become firm on our policies for such things. We have to take a firm stance across the board, because every single person ever caught cheating or violating the rules claims they didn't do it, it wasn't their fault, they didn't know, etc etc etc. Unfortunately, those liars and cheats ruin it for the honest-mistake folks a lot of the time. We are not saying you did this with intent, we're not making judgment either way. We decided to allow you to have the participation reward, rather than no reward at all. We both felt this was a fair compromise since we have absolutely no way to verify what really happened. We just know that someone acquired and submitted a trophy that you had possessed first, and that the story changed a few times. That is all we can base a decision on. Also, you did not lose anything. You simply did not win.

I hope you allow him to know who abused of him privately, to be fair enough and to add a proof, because he spent a lot of time on that event .

Thanks for at least taking the time to explain it to me. Next time i'll be more vigilent if theres another event like that. I Just feel disapointed still but i think its a fair process. At least got the trophy bear head for deco, Hey i'm here to have fun i'm not here to cheat on anyone (you never said i cheated). I'm now playing for more than a year now i've spend many hours into it i won't let that disscouraged me. My Journey is not yet finished on Excelsior! I Hope i wasnt to rude about that when i paged,i was just mad about being disqualified since i had a Grand Father Kodiak Bear Head that would have been in top 3, But Hey it's only pixels!!!

Thanks Pi0NEER

If you want to show off, or otherwise share your prize with your guildies simply:

1) put trophy into bag
2) move bag to un clutterred area on screen
3) hover mouse over trophy so text displays
4) hit alt print screen (takes screen shot)
5) open paint
6) hit control v (paste)
7) crop (optional)
8) save
9) upload image to your favorite image sharing program
10) share the link of your awesomeness with all.

Prevents accidents from happening ;)
