Treasure Hunting Part 2

Post by +Requiem »

The other staff members and I are starting to discuss what should be included, changed, or updated in the treasure hunting update. Since you all have had some time now to play around with the initial upgrade, I'd like some feedback. (We will not be removing the lock picking delay).

Keep it constructive, and do not attack anyone for something you feel is a bad idea. You may discuss why you feel it is bad, or should be different, but be polite about it please.

So, how do you like the new changes? What, in your opinion, should be added or changed, or even removed? How can we make it better? Specific answers will be given more weight in my eyes. Add deco! is not a good answer, leaves too much open for interpretation, and will probably get discarded. We could use some bones in treasure chests for some added flavor is a good answer, for example. (No titan's hammers! don't ask).

I look forward to reading your thoughts when I get back online later today.

I only have used one leve 7 map, and I expected the mobs to be way tougher than they were. In fact I noticed little difference in toughness. I like the idea of an occasional oint in fel maps, to make risking fel a bit more profitable. someone made a suggestion of possibly finding the rare quest book in 7 and 8 maps that can lead to possibly an artifact, just make the quest challenging. the 7 and 8 maps should have a special something in them to reward getting one. We get an arty for a lvl 6, but only a chance of deco on 7 and 8. would also be cool to see the loot on spawns from lvl 7 and 8 reflect the tougher status of the critter.

Just an idea like that...if each treasure map from different level could have a part of a bigger item. (deco ) And the level 8 chest have the final item to put all the other together that would be awesome. I though it was that way with the shardstone...3 pieces in different level chest, than in level 8 chest you get "special hammer" to put the 3 pieces together...

it just a though :)

thx btw for everything :)

Good ideas so far, folks. I also agree that there should be tougher mobs for the higher level chests, I'm pretty sure +R had always intended for that to be the case but it just hadn't been updated for the first round of tweaks to the system. I've suggested this to +R already but I'd like to see the map locations become a little more dynamic in how you locate the spot. More of a follow-instructions and landmarks sorta treasure hunt before you get there :)

I would have to agree on the idea of ointments in felucca chests. I think its definitely a natural fit.

so far I think what is in there is good.

the one thing that has always struck me about tmap chests is the gear within them is always of a rubbish grade even on a level 6. Not saying the chance should be huge but what about similar to the lady mel table there was a chance at something better

ie: 3x46 3x38 etc etc etc the type of looted gear people would keep. even if the chance was small it could cause people to do a more protracted search through the items for reasons other than just spawning more guardians.

I would also have to echo the comment about level 7 chest guardians not seeming to have much more durability than their level 6 counterparts. I know you mentioned them being paragon strength and perhaps they were from a hitting at paragon strength, not sure Id have to pay more attention next time.

I love the little deco items like the coconuts and buckets/soulstones. it sounds weird to say but a greater variety of deco items would keep people at it. There is always going to be a collector mentality among uo players. It is the type of game that attracts that. I am not entirely sure what sort of deco items to include, but for them to be truely effective it would have to be the only place you can aquire said items.

with the level 8 maps being as rare as they are. Having a wide variety of special items in them to collect would have the obvious trickle effect of causing more maps of a level below being spent in an effort to collect said collection.

I'd love to have a random chance of getting a moonstone in an chest.
There seems to be a bit of code info on the RunUO forums.
Even if they don't work as a portal, they are interesting deco pieces as they change colour when you click on them.

I agree here completely. I have managed to get a hold of a few lvl 7s now, both for fel and tram and didn't notice any real change in difficulty, less reward too considering the gaurenteed paragon arty in the lvl 6. I understand its the gamble of getting a lvl 8 as the prize however the tier doesn't seem to ramp up like I was expecting which was actual paragon level monsters.

I also love the quest book idea. perhaps one of them making use of the treasure chests inside the labyrinth. the ones with one-shotting minotaur guarding them, and random teleport tiles that can send you all over that place which currently hold about 400g and a gem or two, and the obligatory classic wand. Plenty of caves to make use of in fel as well.

Hopefully more items will be included in the future and maybe even a lower drop rate on them, sure it may be a bit of disappointment on a chest that didn't have anything special, but it'll make the ones that do oh-so much more special, rather than "well theres one more for the stash".

Im a huge fan of the update this far. (including the LP changes) I have no doubts it will keep getting better and better as time goes on and look forward to the next stages.

Also expanding this update to sea chests at some point would be a nice touch as well.

I would like to see some really different collectible deco items e.g the model boats that atm seem only to be available by winning the Pirate's Quest jackpot at the casino. GM statues would be fun to collect.

Rare gems would also be nice for those of us who like trying our luck for a Titan's from the Doom chests, not white pearls as they are relatively easy to get from fishing.

An indestructible lockpick perhaps. A book for treasure maps like the powerscrolls book.

I also like the quest idea mentioned above.

TY for inviting feedback and comment :D

I'm loving the suggestions so far.

We have talked about updating dungeon chests, as well as fishing chests, but now is not the time for that. I'd like to stay focused on regular treasure map chests.

Thank you for your ideas, keep them coming!

I *really* like the idea of using small collections in treasure chests. (like the ships), or like +Nyx's "My Little Ponies".

Any ideas on some collections that would be fun, and maybe even themed?
I was thinking snowglobes of the cities, but thats a Christmas thing, and I wouldn't want to make them relatively commonplace.

I realised after making that suggestion last night that some of those things might be reserved for special events, ala the christmas globes. But I still like the idea.

It would be nice if the deco items in the chest rotated out for newer stuff every couple of months.

It would also be nice to see what would be a level 9 chest crop up in quest chains. (Not with a spawn or massive loot or anything, just needing over 120 lockpicking to pick) Or even higher levels needing up to 140 lockpicking. Make those vets really work for the quest :) I suppose that would be a Touria thing.

Otherwise I aven't seen anything that needs much of a tweak. Just dungeon quests when it comes time to upgrade them.
Haven't done a lvl 7 yet though.

Thanks for the update! Been doing more :)

A use for the shardstones would be cool. Combining them to create something , or use them in crafting would be nice and add value. Love the idea of the chance for a 4x46. Possibility of an ED (or maybe up to 5) in the higher tiered maps. Chance at special mounts. Chance for Tickets to raffles since we have to sift through so much clutter :)

Overall I'm happy

Love the update, I've only done a few chests so far and I've managed to get a lvl 6 map for fel and a coconut :)

In terms of themed deco items from chests what about Egyptian or Indianna Jones related stuff? That kind of stuff always reminds me of treasure hunting.

Love +Nyx's idea of having ones that might involve a bit of a scavenger hunt to actually find the chest too. Decorative coloured lockpicks and shovels would be cool too, or maybe a framed treasure map that can be wall deco?

It would be cool if you could turn in loads of old completed maps for a deco item or use them to make something, I imaging people have a lot of them sitting around now!

A deco gold/gem pile? Shiny stuff!

Edit: Just had a shiny idea: Glass Sword
Quoting UOGuide: "The original Glass Sword is a Longsword known as the "Ultimate Weapon" which can kill any target with a single stroke." I wonder if it could be made 1 use only and limit the monsters you can kill with it, but even then it could be too overpowered :displeased:

Oh, and what about Glass Armor? Just a thought :woot:
