Sorry but I think the intention of my post wasn't clearly put forth there.
My intention in line with your plans to rewrite them in future was to take some of the load from you by having the community do it. You guys have so much on your plate as it is, never mind doing new stuff, that in the past doing a similar role I found it easier to create simple community events that are forum based such as this. Hence my suggestion of having the community members write the story for you.
The community on this shard is actually really great and from reading through some of the archived and older forum posts would probably excel in being able to offer you that type of help.
I apologise if that all came across as do it now. It was merely a suggestion for something that could be done when the time comes and suits.
Mistvail quests changes
Re: Mistvail quests changes
Generally speaking it's actually a whole lot more time consuming to get players involved in that way than just doing it myself. But, we'll see how it goes. Elysium is still going to take several months at least and then I'm going to need a massage, several cocktails and a lengthy vacation before working on any other significant updates

Re: Mistvail quests changes
I get Alex's point. Actually I'd love to look myself. (I even suggested a 1 week pass as an auction or raffle item
)
But I also get +N's point as well.
It gets to the point of do we want her to rework Mistvale, or work on the spring/summer/fall/winter quest, the Halloween Dungeon, Elysium, and god knows how many other events that she was behind.

I know this is just beating a dead horse, "But" with all your changes, I do think that it would be more appropriate to extend the time to 180 days, who's it gonna hurt? But how many might benefit from the extended time. I got the shirt and that'll probably be the only item I'll get from Mistvale, I'm one of those bored ones and I wonder that the "This is the Way it is". isn't part of the reason that the shard population is stagnant. I'm a busy person, I wanted to come back to UO for some fun, but with the increasingly limited game play time I have now, I'm not going to fit all this in to try to gain the rewards.. not mentioning what a clumsy player I am.. I'm not asking that you grease the wheels.. but remember this is supposed to be for new players, but the way it is setup in my opnion you are trying to treat them as hardcore, Maybe it should be scraped..
Well that's my foot in my mouth.. I love the taste of leather..

It's not that I'm a Type‑B personality. It's that I'm driven by a passionate, all-consuming desire to take it easy.
Re: Mistvail quests changes
I'm not sure why you think the shard population is stagnant, considering it's been steadily increasing. We've reached over 240 players online in the last few weeks which is much higher than last year at this same time.
I don't intend to increase the amount of time players can stay in Mistvale. I have previously considered decreasing the minimum account age to 14 days instead of 21, but that would be the only change I would make (and I haven't yet decided if I will do that).
Since the changes, most players running Mistvale have managed to complete the entire gear set with time to spare, often a fair chunk of time to spare. This is true even of our casual players. It is not in any way hardcore, but it is meant to be a lengthy quest to obtain the best items available there. It is now (it wasn't before), and I'm quite happy with the changes.

Re: Mistvail quests changes
I am a new player (just over 30 days old) and I think the Mistvale quest reward level is excellent. For a completely "un-twinked" player (e.g. not provided gear/gold by a guild/friend/spouse and not purchased any ED - so everything gained through your first 21 days of play time), who follows the general strategy of saving up early for mules/nobles and training up the main core skills, the reward is a whole lot better than the gear you're usually wearing at that point. I'm sure if you power game the hell out of those first 21 days you might already be well suited up, but I found every piece was a major upgrade (barring the gloves, as I lucked out and got gloves of the pug with the very first paragon I killed).
If you have been provided a leg-up and already have a 220 dex suit or something similar, then sure the first bits of the suit might not be that spectacular - but let's face it, the quests are designed for new players to be able to start delving into higher level content. If you are already past that stage, then you should have to face some time consuming grind to get "best in class" type items like the sash and cape. The same as you face when going after other high level items. At least with these ones you know exactly where the end point is, unlike grinding for normal random arty drops.
I played a fair bit and completed the quests within 4 days - but it certainly wasn't a solid block of power gaming to do that (a job and wife makes that impossible). So I don't think there is much of an issue with the timeframe unless you're on a really restricted time budget.
It does get boring at times - I sometimes camped a room with a set spawn (lich lords for example) and trained crafting skills while waiting for the set spawn, rather than running from room to room. Took longer to hit the kill quota, but all the time saved by not running was used to advance the crafting skill.
My only real suggestion is the graphics on some of the items you need to loot - it would be a lot less tedious if they were larger and perhaps brighter colours - it can be very hard to find and/or target some of them in the cluttered corpses like lichs and lich lords.
Otherwise I think it's an excellent new player quest.
One thing that might be worth doing is adding some "tip" to the new player wiki, suggesting strategies for pre-21 day old characters to concentrate on, with the suggestion they might want to hold off spending a lot of gold on gear when the Mistvale suit will be available to them after 21 days. It's easy to spend 200k on fairly worthless gear (which appears decent to your newbie eyes) when you'd be better off buying a maxed mule.

Re: Mistvail quests changes
Nyx, just wanna put in, that I'm really enjoying Mistvale...I've been playing a few weeks after a 17 year break from UO and I enjoy the starting area...
The grind is a bit boring, but let's face it, of all the grinds in UO this ranks as a fast and easy one, so for the level of gear I am receiving, I'm quite satisfied...
Sooo...Cheers from a newb

Re: Mistvail quests changes
I initially was having trouble with the quest, I had asked someone in the quest area if the upper left portal was the only place to kill lich lords and get essence, and they said it was. This particular spawn is pretty fast and furious, and you get swarmed fast by some powerful monsters. Once I learned you could get essence elsewhere then it became a lot of fun, a lot of grinding but fun. The only problem I have is you have to go find other places to kill the monsters, because so many people are down there leveling up weapons. The other side to all the levelers is they are not concerned with the items on the corpses, so once it becomes available for others u can have your auto loot grab it plus you will find a lot of quest items on the corpse though they are time sensitive.
