Donation not worthwhile

Post by M3D1CN1 »

Donations.

What happened to the bonus like World Teleporter, Excelsioian Sandals, or is that just a Christmas thing ?

Soon it will be no Uni Tubs or the extra 10%

It was 30 euro now 50 euro just to get a Bless Deed :verymad:

Need to sort this

It's a kind of technical bonus... I often get asked if there are alternatives to PayPal, so a while back I added the Wise option. Every now and then someone donates thru it, but I'd like there to be a few donations all in a week so I can see if it's all working and if it's worth integrating it into the reward stone. A regular bonus might come later in the month, maybe the enchanted runebook since it's been a while since we had that as a bonus.

(Bless deed has always been 50 EUR. Last three donation bonuses, the treshold for the bonus item was increased from the usual 30 to 40 EUR, and someday in the future it will probably go even higher).

Each year I've been here, the Christmas bonus has been a stronger wooden box plus extra ED. Other bonuses are fairly random, generally bonus ED or a special item. It's real random and hasn't particularly deviated lately, at least not that I've noticed.

Those are in addition to the standing any-time bonuses: https://www.uoex.net/wiki/ED_Rewards#ED_Bonuses

Personally, I'm not going to mess with wise. I have Paypal and that's already one too many disreputable money handlers for me.

I tend to be careful by nature with financial stuff and do a lot of research before using financial payment methods. I hate paypal because it has horrible policies about free speech and take great pride in policing "acceptable" businesses with freezing accounts and not releasing funds/ reversing transactions after items already received. Their fees are atrocious and heaven forbid you send money in another denomination as their exchange fees are one of the highest in the industry. That said they have good encryption and often times they are the only option that a seller accepts as they make it pretty easy. So I use the "window" to use my own card and let my bank do the exchange of denominations but don't use paypal and let them store my bank/card info.

Here is a fairly unbiased assessment on PayPal vs Wise: https://moneytransfers.com/comparison/t ... -vs-paypal

Wise itself has been around since 2011 and does over $10 BILLION dollars of transfers a day with very high satisfaction ratings. Primarily in-between countries where exchange fees in currency are often manipulated to skim extra funds off the top by other transfer companies. Here is an article on the company from Forbes, one of the first resources I use when checking out financial companies for fees/reputation/history etc: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/money-tr ... se-review/

Overall, Wise has higher transfer fees (the fee amount you see upfront) but due to not marking up the exchange rate, you generally pay less overall than most other transfer services unless you are sending boatloads of funds.

Thought some of you might like the research I found, not an endorsement either way. I will be participating in the UOEX test run of Wise as I am convinced it is reputable and cheaper. Have a blessed day in UOEX!!

Couldn't agree more. I've had a PayPal account for around 2 decades now. They have a track record with myself, my friends, and my work associates. PayPal also takes credit cards, at least in the USA, which gives additional buyer protections. I've had people pay me using their credit card, no account creation needed. That doesn't seem to be the case with wise.com

I had planned a year end donation to help support the shard. Thought maybe I'd make it a couple months early. First red flag, I'd never heard of wise.com before +C's WC announcement. Enough sources indicate it has some legitimacy so I checked it out. Got past the valid e-mail address and SMS text message verification. Then wanted full legal name, birthday, home address, verified e-mail. There doesn't appear to be any option to pay by credit card so assume wise.com also wants direct bank account access. They also wanted the same information for +C. I looked at both sending to a person and to a business, wise.com wanted your real name, e-mail address, homes address, and IBAN bank account number to send you funds. That's a lot of information to be giving out for a 3% reduction in fees.

Summary, PayPal is the devil I know. Even a 100% bonus wouldn't make risk using wise.com

How about the 1,000 capacity T-Map book? It's been many many years since that was a donation extra; it's a very enticing bonus. Think it's been given out only once, maybe late 2018 or early 2019?

1000 Capacity T-Map book would be a fantastic bonus. Not overpowered like the PWT, but different from the same old 4 we cycle through...

Just 3 days left in the month. Guessing there won't be any donation bonus until the usual December one.
