If i had donated 40k euros (that is about 1/4 million in Brazil's currency) to this obscure corner of the internet... i would be very very frustrated too... after all, you could have a new house or a fancy car, but instead you have some pixelated itens and non-replied tickets... very disturbing fact. maybe its time to rethink your life, son

People always feel like they have a right to tell you what to do with your money but at the end of the day it's yours and only your decision matters.

We've donated over $10,000 USD this year between our alma mater, charity and political campaigns. We're don't get anything in return for it besides a thank you card but if it's something you want to support and it makes you happy, it's worth the money. Can't take it with you so might as well enjoy it.

Good point on the charities Yuki. There are so many good causes out there and so many humans/animals and ecosystems struggling these days. Donating to worthwhile causes is a great idea if you have excess cash. I don't at the moment, cost of living and raising a small family take most, but I do keep up a small patronage to a couple of aussie charities that help out kids that are lacking in school supplies/clothes etc. The cards we get with kids who now have a clean uniform or the appropriate books always warms our hearts. I get much more joy from those cards than I do from any of the pixels I have acquired on Excelsior.

I know in the past I've read from +C on the forums that some of the excess donations he receives he donates on to projects around computer literacy/coding... something, lol. It was years ago I read that on here.

Yes I've donated a significant amount to the Shard and received EX dollars in return, which I used as I saw fit. I've also contributed to charities and taken care of my aunt, who took me in when my parents put me in foster care. When she could no longer manage due to her own disability, my uncle stepped in and raised me. Now, I take care of both of them. So, before you judge me about your charity work, remember that you don’t know me or my story, so please stop. Also for the last time If you have an issue with how I choose to spend my money—whether it's not buying a fancy car or other material things—understand that those things aren't important to me. Money, cars, and houses don't define me. I value experiences like traveling, playing video games, and enjoying time with my family. I spend my money how I want, and if that bothers you, maybe it's just jealousy. Either way, just leave me be.

@Lachian: Good to hear you've got a diverse range of interests and kudos on your charitable acts. It pays to help and it must be especially nice to return the favour to those who have helped you in the past. :) I am sure Yuki will leave you alone now, at least I hope they will.

Another thread gonna be locked for going way off topic.

In order to get this thread back on topic, I had a thought: What if instead of anytime an individual gets a brainwave and thinks: "I know I'll make a thread about how undervalued and underused the herding skill is and how it would be good if we had some quests to herd the cats to get a +15 str shepherd's crook." Maybe instead we start a thread for just listing ideas? That way with one big "Mega Ideas Thread" all these things can be in one place. +C might get inspiration from them. As it stands, dropping ad-hoc forum threads about combining wands or making herding great again is not particularly useful, as +C doesn't have time to read and act on them at this point, and when the time comes the idea is lost to the sands of time. I know I have a thousand and one ideas to drop into such a thread... I could get us started if we want...

*Scratches head*

Herding - make the skill useful by having quests to herd all the cats in certain towns somewhere, getting improved shepherds crooks until you get the titan's crook which gives +15 str...
Tracking - How about we make this skill work properly...
Nerf Magery - We all saw the guy breaking the meta using Magic Arrow and Meteor Swarm... I spent billions over the years on my relayers and now I see this guy hunting the same spots with just a spellbook and non-relayered pants?! Really? We need to nerf most of the spellcasting ASAP.
Arrms Lore - man, don't even get me started on Arms Lore...

... ellipses...

Ok John Warren.. I cannot tell if what you just said was a bad joke or not...

"Nerf Magery"?

You have to be kidding...

Regardless if you were talking about me, or someone else who is good at playing a mage. Saying an extremely labor extensive skill needs to be nerfed, must be on the Satirical side.. I have never been able to set up an automatic gold farming macro using Magery by any measure. I have to actually "Play". There is no push button and walk off macro for me.

I literally had to do so much more as a mage to even start to compete on this server. Plus, I was always told being a mage is horrible, by you, and many others for years. (I won't include the abuse I received for playing one.) And "NOW", out of the blue.. Someone actually learned how to play a mage on this server... and it too needs to be nerfed??

Tell me you don't like competition, without telling me you don't like competition.... (You may think way to highly of yourself and have a poor opinion of others to even suggest you have been somehow wronged here.)

I guess you have just experienced what I have been saying often.. "Monsters do not require overkill stats to beat." I have been playing a mage since UO hit the shelves. I am sure I am not the only one on this shard this may be the case for either. If you spent "Billions" on your gear over the years, just to be upset someone can play something other than a warrior successfully. Then this means you expected too much return for your investment when the monsters you face don't require it.

I will be honest with you here.. "That is no one's fault but your own."

Don't advocate for the nerfing of other people.. Especially an extremely small demographic of players that have to try harder than you.

Now if what you said about Magery was a joke.. then you need to work on your delivery of "Jokes" in general...

If what you said was actually serious... Then you have a real problem with your ego to feel "threatened enough" by another player to even suggest a nerf of how they play. You have a very noticeable pattern in what you write on the forums. Which most people do see it as very self-serving. And if you are at all serious about nerfing none warrior players. Then this is yet another example.

(Just a side note. Most players on this server do not play a mage. Due to the labor-intensive nature of playing one. That has been the #1 reason I have heard by people who want to play one. But don't for that reason.)

I tell you what John Warren.. If you are going to advocate to have casters nerfed (more like crippled). Then I advocate for all damage hit spells to removed from weapons... Since you're not a mage, you shouldn't be allowed to cast all those spells without interruption, all at once.

You're doing the same amount of damage as 2 Flame Strikes, every 1.25 seconds.. that needs to be nerfed. Also with all the Hit Areas you have on your weapon. You're hitting everything for the equivalent of 2 or 3 Chain Lightnings or Meteor Swarms when you pack in a mob.. every 1.25 seconds..

See how easy that same energy can get thrown back at you?

You have absolutely "Nothing" to realistically complain about.

Fight harder mobs if it insults you someone else can kill what you are hunting. I won't be able to follow you to those harder places to hunt. With how my gear was before I left to take a break for a while was. I can't even begin to hunt in "Wrong" or "Labyrinth" as a mage. And I likely never will be able to handle those places as a mage.

(Oh wait.. I guess you can't hunt in harder places.. it would mean looking at your screen more often than every 15-20 minutes.. Yet another advantage of being a Fighter and not a Mage I guess..)

This server does to hard of a push back on Hide/Stealth, and Taming for me to hunt in places like that. I doubt I will be able to complete the bosses with a full suit of relayers during X-Mas as a mage. It is already set up for fighters to have the biggest advantage here. You're asking for way too much for a nerf of players who aren't at your "HUGE" list of Strength/Dexterity/Weapon advantages.

Sounds like you're indulging in the concept of "Rules for thee, but not for me." Eh, John Warren?

You know.. the more I think about it.. I shouldn't be annoyed at the "Nerf Mages" statement.. I actually should feel proud that a Mage has done so well on here (99.9% sure it was me), to actually make the most over geared (and entitled) player on this server want me to be nerfed.

Almost make me want to come back and throw spells everywhere with my head held high... almost..

Thank you JW. :D

i havnt heard anything about this where can i read about it or did someone post a youtube video?

ive always been a gear>skill type player myself and i admire players who come up with new tactics that dont rely on gear.

He is referring to the way I (Pyrrulyxia) played a mage for a few years on here, Culichi.

I learned how to play a mage well over my time on UO. From when UO hit the shelves in the late 1990's. All the way to recent days on this server specifically. JW is urked that someone can actually play a mage using only a spell book in hand, instead of following the normal route of Dexx0R. Which I frequently did much of the time when I hunted.

He is referring to how with and without a pet. That I can hunt Balron, Lurg, and slaughter mobs in Doom to collect gold and daemon bones. Hunt in Tokuno for the Tsuki Wolves, Yamandon, ect. Wearing only a spell book and GoC armor. As well as solo Champ spawns and the bosses. I ran around with only 50 Dex for the longest time and didn't often die.

He thinks if I am capable of playing a caster in such a fashion, that it is someone how overpowered. Which pretty much points to an apparent disbelief that JW cannot believe I have the capacity to think in such a way to play a mage in the first place.. (Since JW doesn't value my intelligence.) When the way I play a mage is how the game intended for them to be played since the beginning. (Tactically, with on-the-spot abstract thinking and decision-making skills. Which I am actually rather good at.)

And no, there is no video of me doing these things. But JW notices it because he chooses to use a macro script to farm gold while periodically glancing at his screen. Which forces him to fight inferior monsters to the billions of gold in equipment he is wearing. Which also happens to be some of the places I have frequently hunted and seen him at. So basically. He is being territorial, and has a false illusion of my overall strength to the disproportionate monsters we both fight to gather gold. While he is still the stronger out of the two of us.

Which means his perception is not very good. Nor are his ethics to want me to be stripped of being able to play a mage. So he can have his hunting spots 100% to his self, due to me being an avid hunter. (Basically, he is arrogant and greedy. With the attention span of a gerbil.)

Hope this helps. :)

If he was actually trolling me specifically. He wouldn't have made mention about how he "Paid his dues" with billions of gold on his equipment over the years.

It was a verifiable complaint that wasn't needed.

@Lachian: I hope your part of the world get cleaned up soon and no more people get hurt/dead. Doesn't look like a nice situation. :(

@Tribecca I am sorry for what happened to your thread.

"Magery needs a nerf! MAGERY NEEDS A NERF!!@ Oh no you didn't John WARREEEN!"

Oh dear god... someone is overreacting.

Everything I wrote was a joke. I thought that was pretty obvious. I added the pants comment so that even the simplest among us could see I was making a joke. You had it right at this point:
Dirtybook wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 6:43 am Saying an extremely labor extensive skill needs to be nerfed, must be on the Satirical side..
See how I listed it with the other skills that don't work or aren't strong? Magery if anything needs a buff, everyone knows that. If you couldn't see I was having fun with the underused skills, well, I am sorry, I, and likely nobody, can help you there man.

I literally said I was joking at the start of the thread (when I made the same jokes before). Herding cats? Arms lore? No pants? Wow. No words.

As for this part... please go back and reread every thread that's been made about magery needing buffing/adjusting. In every single thread I agree with you, it would be great to have additional ways to tackle all of the content here. I don't know how much more clearly I can make that point that I agree with you regarding magery. I bolded it and underlined it so that you couldn't misinterpret it again. I have done it in every single thread so far about magery... but the little gremlins in your mind read the words "John Warren" and then you make up everything else inside your own mind after that... irrespective of what's been said in the past or is written in front of you.

I can't make it anymore clear Pyrruuluxia/DirtyBook: Magery should be buffed, it would be great for the server if it was. This is my true and honest opinion as of always. The previous sentence is not a joke.

There, in all future rage rants about magery, keep this one in the top of your mind please.
