As long as you lock all the layers and record their hue you shouldn't have any probs. And of course you need to serialize all of that stuff so it gets saved even when there's a restart.

Tell me, is the SVN/CVS required for this or do you just need a place to test something in the environment we got on excelsior?
If you need, tell me which one you think is better...

Also, how's coding coming along?

CVN iasnt required but its a handy thing to have, hehe, i could upload teh latest scripts and bugfixes to a testserver, though i also have a testserver on my own devbox.

P.S. a projectmate with (probably more than me) coding experience wants to join, he ahs also played UO for about 3 years. do you mind ? (didnt think so)

Cygnus: the whole think will take another 8 weeks (2 months) and its not likely you will see big things before then, except something ive got cooking for zandor, wich will probably be in sooner.

You rang :P?

As OldManAlewar mentioned, I'm in the same class as him. I have quite a bit of experience with C#, Java, PHP and some other languages (both professionally and for fun). I have played quite a bit of UO in the past, on different free shards.

I'm probably looking at a support/coop job with OldManAlewar here, as he probably has more experience with making stuff for you, and for UO in general. I'm looking forward to working with you guys (if you allow me to do so, of course) :P

Sure Lord Gaav.

I'll have a test server ready for you two by the end of the weekend. Not sure about SVN tho, i guess you'll just have to keep your own backups of the thing. The test server will be mostly for just testing your custom items/mobiles with all the object classes we got here on excelsior.

Well, I've been thinking about it. Us staff will probably make ourselves a forum for coordinating development on certain things (mostly things that players might not ever see), but since other developers aren't staff, the regular development forum will be public. Plus in fact it would be nice that people can see what to look forward to.

we spend about 8 hours (one schoolday) a week on it.

i have the upgrade system more or less done ,wednesday i will continue and see which one of those numbersets i need to change to a string. with the time left i will make a quest to ge tthe tools

basically the system works like this:

you need raw epic gems (arcane hued nox chrystal :P )
tools (5 uses per toolset, gotten by a quest)
1 bar of Mithril
>110 tinkering and magery skill, maybe inscription too.

together you can make a epic gem, of wich there will be (at the time it turn it in) 8 in the crafting menu.

one example is a gem ("of the dwarves") that will give a single piece of armor:
Self repair 3 *(major feature)
Bonus hitpoints (medium feature)
and a lesser feature

all gems will give something big, something medium and something small (like nightsight or a few points of def chance)

You apply the epic gem just like you do a arcane gem. (in fact, i lifted some of the same code)

conversely: the mithril bar will make sure people dont UBER on this, forking over a million for "Self repair 3" is not something you do every day.

you get to decide where the epic gems sapwn ;)
i suggest appropriate monsters, or paragon balrons.

anyway, completing this will be my plan for wednesday :)

* if it already has 3, it will get 4, if it has that 5. if it has 5 ... waste of money, other gem might be a better choice.
