Re: Changes In The Bio World

Honestly, the Seller can charge whatever they want for their merchandise and as a Buyer you decide whether to buy it or not at their price.
For those that are unhappy with the prices being offered then the alternative is to create your own luck suit and make bios yourself. Yes there are high upfront costs for creating a 6k luck suit but if you feel that the prices are too high at 5.5 - 7 mil then make a market of it by creating your own bios and sell for less.
** My two cents though, it is not worth the hassle: Most players will need at most 1 good bio and thus its not worth it to create such a high luck suit. **
I agree with Zanther, that there should not have been a forum post / public announcement that a group of players agreed to charge a set price on merchandise. I'm sure Rossi had no intention to say this is an absolute price for bios (aka "price setting" / "monopoly"), rather these prices are what to be expected if you buy from 3 certain bio-engineers (though IMO the three most active bio-engineers). They have no control over what other bio-engineers charge nor the secondary market for bios.
Commenting on Roach's comment, prices are all relative to your time frame. I think about a year ago when I started, bios were 8-10 mil. They flat-lined for 8 million for several months, then I think Zar had dropped prices to 6-7 million maybe 2-3 months ago. Then anarchy had dropped prices significantly with some bios going as low as 3.5 million but i would consider this an extraordinary time / event since he was just clearing his inventory (who really needs 100+ bios anyway?). So if you anchor your point to about a month ago then yeah prices may have raised 75-100%, but compared to a year ago they are still very cheap.
Just for economic argument, I believe oligarchies is the more common term for the bio-engineering market rather than monopolies / trusts. But even then I have my gripes of calling it an oligarchy because demand is relatively elastic. Does anyone absolutely need a bio? Some may argue yes, but IMO its not essential for 99% of the game and the next best alternative (imps) do fairly well in most instances. There will always be times when a bio is better than imps but their pretty darn good substitutes. My basic point is: Bios is not a necessity (like milk or gas) but rather a luxury (like jewelry or Rolls Royce). If you have the gold and want to use a bio then sure buy it, but again its not like you have to own a bio.
Most important thing to remember: This is a game and some RL dynamics do not exist, but other RL dynamics do apply.
