V,
You said it, not me.
I asked a question, one Nyx is entitled to answer (or not) as she chooses. I intend to take her answer at face value and would have liked the courtesy of having my question taken the same way.
Regards,
Wil

What i really find is annoying, when you ask a question and you get "fun answers", means wrong info, but the answer-person thought its funny to make a joke on the questioners cost.
The chat discipline is sometimes not that good and the only what would help is when we all feel more responsible, means here: telling the jokemaster that it wasn't a joke.
Actually it's more like reality: "Who cares ?(as long it does'nt happen to me ?)"

You can quickly find out though through world chat chatter who gives good answers and you find your "go to people" for certain things in game. [pm them directly often times it is more effective. When in doubt you can always resort to global hoping for an answer. Guildchat is also a good solution since guildies often times are more eager to help out and most guildleaders have been on the shard 12+ months and are very knowledgeable.

This is like capitulation and giving up. Shouldn't we try to make this world a better place, with respect for each others, instead of watching how the scum cooks up ?

Most times I see joke answers in chat, the joker turns right around and gives the right answer. Or they tell everybody it was a joke, or somebody else gives the right answer first.
People like to keep chat cheerful and light-hearted. That is what the game is for, to have fun.
But this thread is about the real bad trouble makers. The ones that want to diminish other people's fun.

Well i liked your opening post, but this one is not your best definately. You said here, this is what the game is for, to have fun on other costs. When you need a info you don't find somewhere else, and you get an answer, making you a idiot , its no fun for you.
Why are people so blind, when they are not the victim these days ?
I try to make an easier example for you. A rifle has 2 ends. You say, both are the same. I say, fun depends on which end you sit.

Personally, I think it would be best if everyone withheld "joking" replies to other players unless they were familiar enough with that player and their sense of humor to know it would be appreciated and taken as it was meant. This is why you sometimes see me being particularly sassy with some players but more bland with others - I tend to only be silly/sassy/joke around with the players who I have interacted with enough during their time here to know they will receive it in the spirit it was meant. I'm a very silly person in general but I know that many others, particularly from other cultures, would not 'get' my humor or might find it scary to have the purple-texted admin teasing them a bit.
So, Reskal, I do see your point and your concern is valid. I also see Hawke's point - I believe he was more trying to state that he thinks most players are being playful if they joke with other players, not with any intent to humiliate or upset the person asking the question. I think this is largely true, but as you've pointed out, one's idea of fun/silly could easily be someone else's idea of standing in front of the class in the buff.

here my 2 cennes on this matter : When I started here on this shard I liked doing jokes and being funny : but I stopped because I generated so much hate that it was not funny anymore : I don't know why, but maybe it's like +Nyx stated : it's cultural : and I think, overtime, it's because some people simply don't enjoy life : they are serious and don't see any other way to go around, which now, I respect ; maybe world chat should be only for game matters, but then in what kind of world would we live ?
It's only a game : I don't want to diminish the passion some of us experiment with it, but in the end flowers are more important...
We should also learn to respect the staff here : they could do something else... maybe punishments should be higher against repetitive offenders, but in my 5 years and a half here, I also saw some staff fired or abusing their privileges --- so It is not an easy subject and I don't want to be in the shoes of +C ; enjoy your time folks and be happy ; thank you (all in respect) ;
Retired Royal Jester - but no jokes here.

+1 For Sass Across Board
I grew up in a city where it can be found around every corner and find it amusing
At what point can i start throwing it back, with people knowing i'm dishing it without ill intent?
Also too all +staff you can sass me all you want, I wont take it personally.
"below the radar anti-staff propaganda".....Sorry but i had a nice chuckle when i heard this. I wish V would speak up more often
Again apologies for not providing substance and only providing useless, random and impulsive thoughts. I also figured since this reached the top of the list for today it wouldn't hurt saying something at this point in time.....However, yes +1 for allowing sass. I also support double entendres and innuendos, but those might be taken too personally by someone....but still.
All the best and be easy.

The upside there is that there are much better logging systems in place nowadays and everything the staff say and do is monitored a lot more thoroughly & regularly than it was before those incidents occurred. So, any members of the "+" team abusing anything aren't going to last for any length of time.

Your post was more productive than roughly 30% of the posts in this thread, so..

You are right Reskal. I did not explain myself well in that post.
And thank you +Nyx, you are right too. I simply meant that post to point out that most times in chat, people are not being malicious, but just playing.
Although there are some that pretend to be playing but are seriously ridiculing those in need of help. But I am an older man.. 52 years has taught me that most things I used to consider insults are just poorly thought out playfulness.
I will give an example: I once worked with this guy, he would add "ness" to the end of things other would say. Like "cool...coolness".
"Yo...Yoness" "Gnarly...Gnarlyness". Well I was in the habit of greeting people that entered a room with me with a shortened version of "Hey...Ay" So guess what had me upset all weekend once. Till i made the connection on Monday.

10/10 thread would read again
i troll harmlessly a lot; but i've never tried to go out of my way to upset anyone
i just say stupid things like pretend to be new, and ask how to cast spells and then make jokes out of it afterwards
