Weapon Leveling Strategy

Hi All,

I am about to start leveling a Reaper of Souls and was wondering what attributes I should invest in.

Also, I remember reading a weapon leveling guide a while back but can't seem to find it. If you know the link please post.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link SJ!

Now, any thoughts on what to put on a Reaper? Can you relayer the Reaper (or better yet, would you want to?)

I am looking at the Reaper to be a mid-game weapon until I can find and level a suitable drop for end-game. Does that make sense?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

To be clear weapons and re-layers are two very different animals.

As for making the Reaper a mid-level weapon... Absolutely. But, the degree or longevity of it being a good idea depends on your future plans.

IMHO Reaper of Souls is one of the best weapon-level options available, for new-to-novice players. This weapon provides respectable damage and life and battle sustaining attributes. While not considered an end game weapon it will server you well for a fair amount of time, especially if you don't plan to accelerate your progression by donating.

Bear in-mind, many different ways to skin the cat here at UO and with that comes many opinions.

IMHO...

The below assumes you don't plan to use any +10 weapon level deeds. And keep the weapon as is...

1) Add 60 points to Lightning
2) Add 60 points to Fireball
3) Add the remaining 5 to Mana Leech

For the all out plan and a weapon that will roll with you ...

If you do level deeds you have 5 more points per deed to play with, max 50. IMHO weapon deeds are a worthy investment to weapon builds and weapon builds only. I would do a full 10 deeds and find a way to purchase a weapon change deed, convert it to a Yumi or war hammer for the following...

1) Add 60 points to Lightning
2) Add 50 points to Fireball
3) Add 35 points to Harm

DI comes with the gear, grow into your weapon not away from it.
Same with MANA Leech, at first your MANA will deplete quickly. Allow your suit and skills to grow into your weapon.
Think DPS when building a weapon, re-layer/gear/suit for everything else.

Another worthy thread for young to novice players. http://corecorp.info/koc/showthread.php?tid=32
Once again, just my opinion, many ways to succeed at UO. In the end you need to do what works best for you and don't forget FUN.

Enjoy! :dance

I agree that Reaper of Souls is better to be used as non-area weapon, because area messes things already in some places and number of such places might increase with addition of new facets. For champs Blaze of Death with it's fire area is enough.
50% DI you can put with Sharpening Blade. SSI/HCI/DCI can be capped with relayers. In addition to what Sailor Jerry said, I suggest to add 20% SDI to those Hit Lighting and Hit Fireball, and to find a GoC shield(Arcanist's protection) for hp/SDI. I always put strength/hp on weapon and I think 8 dex would be a good choice for a Reaper of Souls.

From http://www.uoex.net/wiki/ED_Rewards
+10 Levels to a Weapon

Levels a weapon 10 levels.

The first 9 Deeds give an extra level worth of sp per deed.
That's only 45 pts extra on non-crafter and 27 pts on crafted weapons. Not sure which is correct, though, as I haven't tested it myself.

I do agree that for an end game weapon, those deeds are worth it if it can make a difference.

*EDIT* Removed the part about Reaper Of Souls as a relayer as it seems it was not intended to be possible.

each deed gives five extra points > if you buy and use 10 that's 50 extra points.

You will lose the first five bonus points if you use a deed mid-stream. I.e. Level 11-19. Once it tops off at any 10/.1 milestone you will receive your 5 pt bonus. I assume this is a flaw in the mechanics but with a simple work-around.

The work-around is to always use a deed at a zero or every tenth. 0, 10, 20, 30 ETC.

So 45 is the max you can get, as there is no level 0

Not True...

Keep in mind we are talking Weapon Deed Bonus Total. A fully leveled weapon from the field gives you 495 points to spend. A weapon deed gives you +5 points per deed. To fully level a freshly looted weapon you need 10 deeds. This is 50 points how are you getting 45? Maybe pictures will help...

A freshly looted Bone Crusher, with one (1) +10 Level Deed...

Now, the same Bone Crusher with all 10 Weapon Level Deeds applied,
(remember a fully field-leveled weapon gives you 495 points)
Image

The bonus is clearly 50.

The error and probably what's confusing you is that you lose the five point bonus if you apply it to a weapon that has been partially leveled and is sitting at 2-9 at any given milestone. In this case the first deed normalized the process and the remaining deeds worked properly. This is a flaw in the mechanics and easily avoided by applying them at 0 and 1. Fresh=0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and so on.

Just trying to help and make sure people don't step on the same landmine I did. :lool:

Cheers

Okay gotcha, There is no level 0. That's why i thought 45 was the max. You stated earlier the weapon has to be at an even 0 for it to work 0, 10, 20 etc.
