Playerbase Shard contributions. And hello!

Post by Arwan »

First off I should probably introduce myself, being new to the shard. This shall also be my excuse for any lack of knowledge about the shard, and anything pertaining to the main body of this post.

Player contributions: Building/Deco

It is very simple and easy to start building in UO with UO Architect. It is a third party program that works almost exactly like the house builder most players have played with at some point, and needs little explanation. You can create just about any building, dungeon, structure and even some landscapes with this tool.
With UOAR players can create new content, export the things they create and post them on the forums for admin review (similar to how this forum works). If the creation meets the quality and any other criteria needed and is accepted, it can be downloaded (and perhaps a bit spruced up) by a GM and installed on the server.

To review:
1) Player creates a house.
2) Player Exports the UOAR file for the house.
3) Player posts a screen shot, statistics (how many items, dimensions etc) and the file on the forum.
4) GM/Admin review the submission, and accept/deny.
5) GM/Admin clean up (if needed) the house, to prepare it for installation.
6) GM/Admin install the house in an appropriate location with UOAR.

This opens a whole new world for shard development, and allows for larger aspirations in shard content that were normally held back by the sheer amount of work some ideas, however good, represented. Competitions can be held on who can make the best bank, player lounge or any other thing that might be needed/wanted for the shard. Not only does this create new places for players to explore (and indeed, take pride in) but in the creation of the content itself, the player is enjoying one of the experiences offered by UOEX.

One such possibility that comes to mind is a custom city, that is developed completely by the player base.

This concept can also be applied to scripting and many other things for the shard.

There is a specific application and process if you are interested in staffing on Excelsior. Please adhere to this process and do not post staff applications on the forums. We also ask that you not advertise the names of other servers for games you have/are playing.

I would quickly like to add that we have a large variety of custom items and places in the world. We also have many great events and ideas flowing at any given moment. Be assured that we know exactly how to run this shard and our style of running it is what makes Excelsior different from any other. The owner of Excelsior is highly qualified in many areas and the staff members we have are wonderful. I hope you get some time to explore the world or read about our additions. Thank you for your post!

I was by no means applying for staff, and this post was by no means a criticism about any aspect of this shard or its management. All my comments about problems were directed at all shards in general, though I should have made this more clear.
d. No advertisements or soliciting of any kind. Menchioning of a website, product, other shard, etc., is permitted to some extent, but should a staffmember deem your words to be an advertisement, you may be jailed, banned from chat, or even banned from the shard.
I had figured that uttering the name of another games private server (one that is quite bad, and no one should play on btw) , fell under the bolded portion of the rule, and was mindful not to post a link or go into it with any detail. But then we come to the italics, so it is of course your call.

I am very sorry for this misunderstanding.

*Edit*
Having actually looked at the rule again, I see that "Menchioning" was mispelled in the codex.

Hmm, well, there's something I don't understand...

What's the idea behind this thread? Why did you post that post? It's kinda an advertisement for UOAR, which isn't anything bad since it's not another shard, but still, hmm I can't seem to find what you were trying to get across :)

The creation of a forum that allows people to post various creations from UOAR, scripting, art, etc. To be added to the shard, if there is a use for them and if they meet standards set by the shard management. A similar concept to the feature request forum.

An example of something for a player created city:

A gatehouse

1081 items with deco
20x20
UOAR file in attachment
Attachments
gatehouse.rar
compressed UOAR file
(1.79 KiB) Downloaded 225 times
