Maybe. I have a list of 700 names I use for pet breeding. I started with a few lists of baby names and expanded with characters I like from books, shows and games. My main criteria was that there had to be enough that I wouldn't use the same name twice breeding any particular animal, I could go down the list and check of "yeah I've used that one recently" instead of having to track whether I'd used it for a particular animal, and they had to be distinctively male or female so that when I'm deciding which to breed with which I can immediately tell from just the name.

Most folks who have bought pets from me or acquired them from the donations box will have pets with those names. I get a chuckle when I see them running around the server sometimes because hey, I know where those came from and still have a spreadsheet entry on them!

they are still maxxed after you retamed them? i thought retamed pets lost half their stats.

I thought so also but for awhile now it hasn't been like that!
