Valor
Valor
As the shard grows, it is getting harder and harder to find an available champ spawn. It also seems that the same players keep having the timing down and do it all the time. It is hard for power players like me, who is a lot online, imagine how hard it is for the occasional player.
What I thought, for a solution, is to make it possible for the players to to summon a champion spawn using the valor gump. On osi, you would accumulate valor by killing monsters in the champion area. The difference here would be that you would accumulate valor by killing all monsters outside a champion spawn. To get to knight of valor (minimum needed to summon a champ), one would have to hunt the equivalent of what gives 5000 points on a leveled weapon, so something like 3-6 hours of hunting regular monsters before being able to summon a champ.
This would have multiple advantages:
1. Not always the same players doing the champ spawns.
2. Players with less skills invited more often to the champ spawns as they can summon it.
3. No running around for half an hour in fel only to find out no champs are available.
4. Players with less experience/skill/equipment could choose to summon easier champs (MOA)
5. there would be less one man champ spawn making the region unavailable for 6 hours.
The number of points needed to get to knight of Valor could be adjusted so there ain't more champs done in one day; that way protecting the economy.
I would like to have players thoughts about this idea; and staffs thoughts about the possibility to code that kind of stuff. Thanks!

Re: Valor
Yeah I think its a good idea with point system. Not only do you have to earn the champ spawn but would eliminate the campers I believe. Actually make the whole thing alot more rewarding for everyone, and maybe some wouldnt get so burnt out because of the simple fact they have to work for what they after.
Re: Valor
I have always been pretty active in champs. The people who used to shop at my vendor "Fingers best loot" can confirm that I usually have alot of scrolls on it. What I am saying is that it's getting harder and harder for me, who plays alot, to find an active champ, let alone the occasionnal player. So I just proposed a solution that would benefit everyone imo.Harabakc wrote:At this stage of the game why are you focusing on champs?
And I just can't wait to see what everyone thinks about this idea;-)

Re: Valor
problem being is...
5 players decide to to gang up on a champ... they kill enough MOBS to get the valor points each, one summons the champ, everyone kills it, then they summon it again immediately... wash and repeat 5 times...
that is the only hic-cup i see there

Re: Valor
Neptune,
I think that what u pointed out could be solved using in some way the party system (e.g: only faces the champ who ever is in the party, and everybody who is, looses Valor points after summoning). That's just 1 suggestion. Bet that those of you who can 'scribe' and 'program' Ultima Online could think of a lot of other smart ways to avoid it.
I liked fingers' suggestion a lot, and as Aniar said, I really think this would do something about 'campers'.

Re: Valor
Well, under the proposed model, each player would have worked their valor 3-6 hours and chaining the champ 5 times would take some time, depending on the skills of the party; lets say 3 hours for this exercise. They would have 30 scrolls to divide between them 5 so 6 scrolls each and it would have take them EACH 6-9 hours to do so. Not to mention they can't do an other champ for 3-6 hours. At the moment, if i camp Barracoon alone, I will have 6 scrolls 15 minutes after he pops out and I will immediatly be ready for an other one right after.+Neptune wrote:problem being is...

Re: Valor
Do the valor points used spawn the champ him self or just instigate the regular spawn sequence? I really like this idea. It seems to solve at least some of the problems we see with the champ spawns, and has the added bonus of utilizing another virtue (which I think are really fun aspects of the game, I love my 3x self-res!).
And, as fingers pointed out, I think the economy would not be greatly affected, so long as the points required to summon are high enough that it takes a sufficiently long time to accumulate. Its always hard to predict how changes will take affect though. It *might* have the affect of spreading out the wealth a bit more, since the scrolls will be in the hands of a wider segement of the server's population, allowing for more than just the regular few to sell them on vendors.
If it does get to be bad, you could always reduce the number and type of scrolls that are rewarded from the champs as well. *shrug*

Or just increase the amount of kills needed to summon the champ.Cestre wrote: If it does get to be bad, you could always reduce the number and type of scrolls that are rewarded from the champs as well. *shrug*

Up for the idea! Sounds great, if it can be done.

Re: Valor
My point of view also. Just "starting it" would be great. So 3rd level allows you to start a champ 3 times?fingers wrote:Yes, I was thinking of it initiating the regular sequence of champ spawn: level 1. Not actually summon the champ by himself.
Could make it even more fun cause it would "break" the 6 hours rule in a way...
Or would it always stay at "6 hours after the last time it spawned/was started" ?

Re: Valor
I think it would be awesome to have Valor implemented here. Maybe have it so there's a 30-60 minute cooldown after the champ is completed to prevent (or at least discourage) camping, and if you've summoned a champ already you have to wait 3 hours to summon another (as well as gain those Valor points back).
It would be a nice system for sure, but would have to have careful considerations of how it could be exploited (ie. getting all 5-6 of your characters Knight of Valor and summoning MOA 5-6 times for some easy mules
).

Re: Valor
i dont understand what the big deal is on champs, A)the only thing that will happen is they get nerfed (again) for everyone meaning theres even less options for people B)ive done my share of champs, and after a while its just boring, C)people think its easy to find champs up, well maby it is difficult but, when you get on before everyone else wakes up you might have a chance to do multples, wich then they wake up and their all down, then 6 hours l8r you can do them again, D)the need to do champs is getting nerfed in many ways, xcept for the newer members that would rather find their scrol than buy one, but PS prices have droped due to a flood of them on the market with impatient sellers droping prices more and more and more, E)some people chose to do champs to level their weapons , EVEN though it was 25% xp for a weapon , NOW the majority of those players are finding its 0% OR 25% OF 25% xp , AND tokens are NERFED to 25% everywhere so there is a chance you get a nice scroll and 5 garbage ones you walk out with 300k tops maby, i dont see a need to NERF champs anymore than they already have been might as well go cut my wrist for all the times ive heard "theres no champs up" and then find out that person only knows that there is 3 champs all of wich are MOAS wow no wonder you cant find a champ tuff nuts if you ask people to show you around im sure theres a few that would minnimum point the way to more champs or let you know, Further more, theres been Numerous times ive heard people complain "gawd no champs up" and i find 2-3 of them active and going with no-one there so please for the sake of NERFFING dont mess with champs its pointless unless you plan to kill off MORE stuff that the community chooses to particapate in, LASTLy on my ever long and boring post, Why have tokens been cut and xp not been raised for mele dmg i mean really whats the point here lets make it impossible to do anything? no more tokens = no more pets being bred no more xp = no more leval deeds no more no more no more no more excelsior (strictly my opinion) hope you guys understand this is NOT an attack on any person or persons , good luck with your ventures and happy hunting BD

Re: Valor
No no, the way it works on OSI, there is a head, in the middle of the altar, you click your virtue gump (the star at the top of your paperdoll), then you press your valor virtue (the sword) wich gives you a target and you target the head, wich starts the spawn. No timer, but you can't start it without being knight of valor.Tigerstorm wrote: Or would it always stay at "6 hours after the last time it spawned/was started" ?
