Advertising Tokuno-Mt-Sho shop

I will try to make this post as short as possible:

1 week ago:
- I go to mount sho castle; nobody there. That is a marvelous place, I am sad.
- I see TC full, Makoto zento almost full, I have an idea, lets make it a market.
- I page +colibri, he finds my idea good, i can rent the place, but it's a huge rent: 2.5 mil per month.
- I offer a free vendor spot to my guildmates, they want to help, they place runes on town ground, they get paged on, +Hina warns me.
- I tell my guildmates not to do that anymore, guildmates are pissed, but they accept.

Last 3 days:
- I want to advertise my market, I know guild chat spamming is forbidden, so I dont do it...
- I make a razor macro, i tell wich products are on vendors, and open a gate to the mall, I place myself near brit gate;
- Alot of happy players, hundereds of visitors, over 15 mil in sales.

Today:
- I run the macro near Brit gate while i take the dog out (RL dog!).
- I come back, my account is disconnected, I reconnect, +Rayne has paged me.

+Rayne: "Spamming is not allowed. To spam, you need to be placed 5 screens from any portal."

I have two questions for +Rayne. First, where in the codex, is that rule of 5 screens mentionned? Second, if I can't use general chat, drop runes or open gates in cities, how do I advertise my new Mt Sho Market?

Also, I was running THE PORTAL macro in Britain. The sign there says I might be "moved" if I am found running annoying macros there". Instead of that, I got disconnected and my whole computer crashed resulting of this, as razor probably didnt know what to do with that situation. Would't just moving me 5 screens away be sufficient to settle the situation?

I still wish you all a marvelous day and hope to read valuable information here on how to advertise legally and efficiently my new place.

Thanks!

I'm with you, man, that's some sort of GM autocraty.
I've got an idea for legal ads for you, though. You could rent a towncrier announcement, see the link here http://www.uoex.net/codex/services/misc
It's not a permanent solution, though, so good luck fighting the GMs.

Kimitsu, thanks alot for your reply and your support. Yes this solution has been explored. I already paged +Chaos to ask how many characters per line I would be allowed to use. He didn't know but he kindly offered to pass the request to a higher level. Other than the fact that it is valid for a maximum of 4 days, it's also a quite expensive way to advertise my shop (3 line X 100,000 per line X3 days = 1,200,000 gold). But I will do it if I have to.

I also thought of holding auctions the sundays that the staff are not holding one. Then again, I need to be sure that there is not an unwritten rule that would prevent me to do so.

Have a wonderfull day,

Polar Bear

No problem. As an idea for the staff, maybe it would be useful to have a service, like, for EDs, to add locations to the world teleporter menu in some "Player Markets" section. High renting price for those is a bad idea because it will certainly become unprofitable for players, but it might be good this way: 100-200 EDs for creating a custom teleporter, and then 1000-5000gp rent per day. Also, there should be some restrictions, like there should be at least 10 vendors in the market, and all of them should be restocked no more than two or so weeks ago.... The last one is probably bad because vendors are usually held by different people and one of them can get others into trouble, so probably it is not neccessary. The general idea is to remove outdated markets from the list.
On the other hand, mt.sho is pretty much like makoto zento, it's not, like, "MARKET" written on it. The rent 2.5 mil is crazy, really. Maybe it's better to convert the place into regular market, to allow all players rent it for regular price, like in TC or MZ?

2.5 mil a month is not too bad if I have the chance to advertise. As I said in my first post, my guildmates and me where able to sell for more that 15 million (5 mil for me) in 3 days, while I was permitted to gate people to it from Britain. Also, knowing how much the player base loves auctions, this might become quite profitable if we are allowed to hold our own auctions. Last but not less, I had to tend one of my two houses to my daughter in order to rent the Mt Sho Castle, I am not really interested in reversing the process :D

Hello

First suggestion would have been the crier but that was mentioned. Second is there is a section for trade in here if I remember correctly, try there to post something. I know not everyone in the game reads here but enough should to get you some traffic. If you go the the store in trinsic roughly north of teleporter there is a runebook locked down for other vendors to place runes. You could do that and perhaps do the same, just like some websites have links to each other.

First of all I would like to clarify a mistype. When I said 5 screens from the telepad, I meant to type, 2 screens.

As for this being in the codex, no it is not at this time. This is a common courtesy rule, as when players are in a key location (city banks, for example) or right beside a traveling teleporter, spamming text or macroing skills, it not only causes severe entry lag when coupled with normal traffic, but it also causes massive journal spam, in a public location where players should not have to leave to avoid it.

*Note*: You did not receive an official warning or any other disciplinary action. You were PMed regarding the situation, and received a 'kick' to stop the macro/spamming, however you were not "in trouble" so to speak.

If you would like to advertise, you are more then welcome to do so, in any town location, 2 screens away from a telepad. For example, I believe you could advertise via a macro just behind the breeder, in front of the tailer, along the outskirts of the southern tavern, or just before the south bridge, for example.

You may also do as some have cleverly done and place a tamed creature on the appropriate house gate.

You may also, as mentioned, post on the forums in the appropriate category.

You may purchase space on the town crier.

You may sell recall runes for 1gp on your vendor, which would direct them to the shop location.

You may place an immovable rune in front of your vendor for players to recall from.

You may hold a guild-sponsored event, in which a player would need to "find the rune" and would be rewarded with a prize upon finding the rune. (This is alright as long as you do not leave any runes laying around after your event)

You may use the auction room, whenever there is no auction, to offer up a Q&A about your shop, offering free runes at the table. (As long as you gather the remainder up after the meeting.)

You may hold an "Open House" by, without spamming, explain it in global chat and offer directions. There, you could serve up some refreshments or have a dart throwing contest.

You could offer that the first 3 people to arrive at your shop would recieve a special gift.

My point is that there are many fun and creative ways to advertise without sacrificing common courtesy. I do not believe it was intentional, however.

Thanks Rayne for this response, there are alot of things that will help greatly. First 5 screens was puting me out of the city. 2 screens is more viable as there is a way to still get a hold of potential customers.

As for the hints to advertise, some of your ideas I like alot, some others I have already used.
To do:

As I said, according to the very large number of visitors I had in the last 3 days added to the fact that I had 0 complaint, I didn't thought that my advertising was a lack of courtesy.

Just a last question: are we allowed to hold auctions the days that staff are not holding one? (for an example, sundays when there is no auction hold by the staff)

Thanks again and have a good day,
