Sterile Pets

Post by KnitePrince »

All Credit for this Idea goes to HighRoller, this is his original post;

You know Col you could take some of the ungodly pain out of this if you created a deed that increased a pets breeds by 1 but ONLY worked if it was still at lvl 1 on training and only if it was sterile. Say for 100k or even 150k gold. That way you could for a fee keep your breeding line going. The fail rate is bad enough without the sterile rate that I get at 50 to 100% rate at critical times ie. at low gen when I don't have many in a breeding line.
(end Quote from HighRoller)

I have read that about a dozen times now trying to think of the ramifications/balance issues.. it seems High already thought of that too.
If the deed can only be applied to a sterile pet (at level 1) it would be hard to abuse.
As it stands, I will try to breed high level pets (not Max) 18 - 20 times before I succeed. translated at attempting to breed twice a day, that works out to ten days just trying for a successful breed. I will not even talk about buying delay deeds, that would be phenomenally expensive and I am too cheap..
After all that.. say you are back breeding a 9 to a 3.. obviously the babies will be 10 and 4.. the ten is junk, you knew that going in.. so you have One baby worth something to continue with.. you spend your time, effort and money on it, and it comes out sterile.
I am not going to complain about the fail rate. It is what it is. My complaint, is that even after all that work and time, you have nothing. It takes Months just to GET to this point. For me it took a year to get max mules.. two or three sterile breeds, and a YEARS worth of work is gone.

A deed that would allow me to add a single breed to a level one sterile pet would at least get me something for all the time and effort.

if balancing pets on the shard is of concern, just put a check on the ointments, so that a pet HAS to be at least level 5 before they can be applied. :nod:

I was actually searching the forum looking for this, and if it wasn't here, was going to post it myself...however, I'd suggest making the deeds buyable with EDs, simply due to the issue of balance. If EDs were the currency, it would benefit the player, the shard, and keep everything in check. I agree with everything that was said, regarding the frustration and reasoning behind wishing for the option to add an extra breed. Even the stipulations make sense. Breeding is very labour intensive, and costly...granted it is a decision that we make to continue to do it, but regardless of that, it seems like there should be a way to make this possible without completely minimizing all of the challenge. I guess the way I look at it is; we can change gender--not that I'm complaining, pretty please don't take that away! lol--so why not be able to add 1 more breed to a pet?

so, my addition to the suggestion, in bullet form:
-EDs or Tokens rather than gold; more of a challenge, ergo more control over the market
-Lock any pets with a level cap of over level 35 out of being able to use the deed, which once again controls the power-house factor

Sorry, had to clarify that I agree with the unusable when they've been trained above level 1, and simply wanted to add that if their level cap is 35 or higher, lock them out as well.
