Poll: should we switch charged dye tubs on bods to universal
Poll: should we switch charged dye tubs on bods to universal
Ok as most notice charged due tubs are valueless now, I think we should switch charged to universal. universal dye tubs are worth around 150k now and if this happens it may go down to 100k but that's not a bad thing for crafters and also not a bad thing to everyone. I am just interested on peoples thoughts on it. Please if you vote no, post why.
Thanks!

So far it is looking strong on yes, we do have a few no's... But they did not give a reason why they say no..
Re: Poll: should we switch charged dye tubs on bods to universal
I just voted no.
Although unique dyed items may make the UOEx experience more personal, in my opinion, it is not an essential part of playing the game. As a result, I would rather staff implement other changes that would either add greater value or save time. Possibly from a staff perspective, it may not be beneficial to have cheaper unique tubs since it may provide dis-incentive for players to donate (especially in round numbers due to how unique tubs are distributed). As a player, 100k vs 150k doesn't really matter to much to me since unless I have an excessive amount of gold (which is likely not to happen) and cannot dye items using other means then I for one would not buy a unique tub.
I believe the current rewards for blacksmith BODs (I think this is the only crafting skill with charged dye tubs as a reward) are appropriate since you also get another BOD as a reward. Again it may just be my opinion, but I believe turning in BODs with 925-1000 points are usually more for resetting your BOD timer and possibly getting a higher point yielding BOD rather than trying to get Gold Runic Hammer or +30 Ancient Smithy Hammer (which are the alternatives of getting charged dye tub).
In a semi-jokingly manner, I dislike 95% of the neon colors I see and would prefer more people using the basic colors offered using regular dye tubs, special dye tubs, pigments, and charged dye tubs. I do not appreciate a walking neon-Vegas show, so please get back to basics people!

Why do you only want those who said no to explain why, what are all the wonderful reasons for yes o.0 other than they are cheaper so yay for that I pretty much agree with Lust on this one. Although many of the colors do hurt my eyes lol I do like to dye special things like my Awesomesauce and Moose Monkay (my bios) other than that and my guild color I am pretty much normally dyedCyrddin wrote:So far it is looking strong on yes, we do have a few no's... voted yes, People QQ about neon colors? really? I dont realy care that much about the dude next to me that his color makes me angry...thats a little weird. A big part of Ultima has been the customization to appearance options and that ability to have any hue available is fantastic.
Re: Poll: should we switch charged dye tubs on bods to universal
Here is my thought on the tub.
Some people do not have the money to donate.
The charged dye tub no one buys, so it just sits doing nothing.
Its a waste of time to do the bod if you just get a charged.
I think if we dont put uni as a reward then we should just remove the charged from the reward list...

Re: Poll: should we switch charged dye tubs on bods to universal
I Have Posted yes. And though I totally agree with Lust and Fiacha, about the neon light show at all the city banks. I'm a total supporter of the advancement of content and gaming fun. UO is an old game, but that doesn't mean it can't progress further forward.
As for a BoD reward stopping people from donating, I think that is a poor reason not to implement something that rewards players for just playing the game. Yes Universal Dye tubs are a by product of purchasing ED's. But at the end of the day we arent using those Uni tubs to purchase the donation (Ed required) items we want to have and love. Though I will support the idea that some people might do BoDs rather then donate to get a Uni Tub, just like I know they might purchase a Uni tub from some one who, donated and, is selling their over stock of Uni tubs.
Balance is key to keeping The Ex Free shard going. (I have seen way to many players leave, because of boredom) As of right now Raffles seem to be the only balancing factor. Allowing the players who can't afford the ED's the ability to get items that require ED's. Further more, there seems to be a need to balance out areas of the UO game that have been left on the side lines.
BoD rewards (and a better system for trading them) , Treasure Map Chest Rewards(45-110 items in a chest, but only 16 of them are worth keeping, 80% of which are reagents? come on!) , More Virtues unlocked, More Mid-ranged monsters (as well as more monsters by type rather then by name) IE. "Inferno Lizardman: 95 gp, 3-8 Blaze leather 10 physical, 90 fire based damage", and of course better loot tables, based on higher level monsters having a base luck standard. (example: (Mongbat +0 luck /or/ Dragon +250 luck )+ Players luck = Total luck) - if this is already applied, I apologize, just doesn't feel like it to me.
Please note that my ideas are my own and potentially server me, and I realize this. But what I'm suggesting is building on what we have, in game, as well as revitalizing the values of some out dated game systems. Treasure hunting was a main stream on OSI Shards. The chests laden with magical items had a great value there because, getting to max skill cap (GM'ed skills) was tough, so every little bit helped you. Since putting in a skill cap now is insanely stupid... isn't it time to have the rewards reflect the structure of the servers curriculum? An ideal change would be to give the T-Map items a higher gold value, similar to what you find in Dungeon chests. Ever notice how the weapons and armor's found in a Dungeon chest sell for more gold? This small change gives value to doing T-maps again. Additional deco or rarer loot drops might be something else to consider. But at the end of the day its the small changes to anything in game that is lacking, that are a positive step forward.
Lets keep the players interested, rather then letting them find out that there is nothing left for them to do, that they haven't already done a hundred times before.
Thanks for reading everything I posted... Ideas and Criticisms are welcome, because they are insights and small changes that will give value to newer ideas.

Criticism is good because it improves upon what came before, and solidifies the strongest of foundations.

mmmmm...deco....
Re: Poll: should we switch charged dye tubs on bods to universal
I agreed with Lust. There are good points for both sides here and I feel my opinion has been already covered.
Re: Poll: should we switch charged dye tubs on bods to universal
Nice points Danilo, I agree with several of your ideas especially regarding new content and revamping some UO sectors to make them more attractive. However, one criticism is that those suggestions are digressing a bit far from the topic and would probably be best served in another thread.
I definitely think there's a middle ground, between a charged dye tub (with arguably zero value) and a universal dye tub (valued at 150k plus/minus 50k). Again, if changes are made to BODs, I stress that there needs to be balance in rewards. Getting a valuable reward in addition to another BOD that may yield another high yielding item may upset this balance. Let's say the change is implemented and you get rewarded with a uni tub. If you sell it for 150k that enables you to buy approximately 10k iron ingots (ExEx usually sells for 15 gp each + 3% commission but you can also buy from NPCs to avoid commission). In my opinion, 10k of iron ingots can fill several "worthless" iron BODs that may yield a "worthwhile" BOD which enables you to repeat the process until you get the most sought after BODs. Overall, the rewards from BODs (except the highest quality ones), should be illiquid to prevent the above example from being exploited. The speed of crafting (a few milliseconds per item using the "Make Last" command) is also astounding compared other actions in UO (hunting, fishing, t-map hunting, etc). Again, I'm sure my opinion would be highly unpopular but that's just my initial concern after giving this whole revamping BOD reward system some more thought.
* Quick note to Ohm regarding neon colors, I did mention it in a semi-joking manner. I really don't mind what players dye their items/pets but it would be a plus if they are more coordinated in their attire so when I check their paperdoll I can glance at their equips. ^_^
