Logical Brain Teasing Questions
Logical Brain Teasing Questions
Hello this is Phoenix and I would like to test all your logical senses. If you have some of your own please pm me or perhaps add here once a correct answer has been found. I will attempt to update at minimum daily with the answer and check in periodically to see if a right answer has been found already. Not sure as to reward yet but would like to see the popularity first as I found them rather intriguing.
First Post Question:
There are 3 light switches in one room and 3 lights in another room. (2 rooms 3 switches 3 lights)
There is no way to see the lights from the light switches and you cannot enter the room and come back and forth to check the switches however the objective is to find which light switch goes to which light once you enter the light room.
Which light switch goes to which light. feel free to label 1 2 3 respectively but they do not match like switch 1 is light 1 but possible.
How do you find out which light switch goes to which light.
Good luck and please let me know what you think of these as I will add more as these are answered correctly

Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
Took me a bit, but I think I've figured it out.
Turn on Switch 1 for a minute or two, then turn it off - turn on Switch 2 and then go into the Light Room. Switch 2 goes to the light that is turned on (obviously), Switch 1 is the light that is off but warm to the touch, while 3 is the remaining light that is off (and cool).
Do I get a cookie?

How long does it take 1 man to dig a half a hole?

Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
Mathmatically the obvious answer would be 30 minutes, but I'm of the sort that think you either have hole or you don't. Not sure how you can half a hole unless you give certain requirements for it to be a hole.
Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
It takes four men one hour to dig one hole, so each man would be taking one hour for 1/4 of the hole.
My answer would be two hours, but as Calan said - a hole is a hole.
Unless actual dimensions are given for the holes (or we were asked how long it would take one man to dig a hole half the size as the previous four, and assuming the holes are the same sizes), then its a trick question.
My answer would be two hours, but as Calan said - a hole is a hole.

Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
2 hours is correct if the ground is completely made out of the same stuff all the way through and considering there is a fixed depth.

Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
2 hours? It doesn't say all 4 men were digging on the same hole. 4 men, 4 holes, 4 hours. Very well could be 1 man per hole that took him 1 hour to dig. Digging half of what he dug before would take half the time. But after the spade is pushed into the ground; you have a hole. It's a smaller one than what you could dig in 1 hour, but still a complete hole.
Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
If each man were digging his own, it would be four hours per hole - half the time would still be two hours. I'd have a hard time believing Man #1 would dig a hole for an hour and stop, then Man #2 digs his hole for an hour and stops, etc.Calan Caitin wrote:Very well could be 1 man per hole that took him 1 hour to dig.
Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
Just rephrase the question:
If four man do THE WORK(TM) in four hours, how long would it take for one of those man to do half the amount of THE WORK(TM) he did before ?
Or better:
If four man produce four apples in one hour, how long would it take for one of them to make half an apple ?
The answer is always the same: 1/2 of the time.
The question to your answer would be:
How much time would 8 man need to dig one hole ? (I think

Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
However you want to look at it, I still say you can't have half a hole unless there are requirements given for it to be considered a hole. Otherwise you have a hole as soon as the spade enters the ground, so 2 hours is still the wrong answer.
Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
Yes but then there would be no right answer. Could take me anywhere from half a second to several years to dig a "hole".

Re: Logical Brain Teasing Questions
Haha You are correct Calan as you cannot dig half a hole and therefore the answer is that you cannot dig half a hole as when you put your shovel in once you still have a hole no matter how big or small it is it is just a hole not a half a hole. There are half sized holes but not half a hole Congrats Calan..

I was thinking a pot... because you know.. I'm a pot-hole? But now that I think it over, I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.
