Having trouble getting the client set up

Part of it is my hdd died not too lond ago so I have to re-install. In the past I used the guide from the home page to set up just fine, but the link to the page seems to not work any more.
http://www.uoex.net/guides/startup gets me a 404 error message. So I was wonering if any one could help me with what I need to do to get back into the swing of things. I have ML already, but it is having trouble patching as in it will not connect to the patching server at all.

Ok i did some fiddling around, and got it to let me into the server for the shard, but now it is wanting me to create a new character, so I was wondering is there a way I can retrieve the data for my char I had before my hdd died on me?

When was the last time u logged in before your HDD died? Over 6 months ago? If so, your acc was deleted, and u made a new one wich has no characters yet.

well darn. Due to school it had been a bit since i logged into the server but i know it had not been six months. The portal here on the site still recognizes that my character exists as well.
