If I were a treasure hunter.........

Post by +Requiem »

If there were to be an upgrade to the treasure hunting system(s), what kinds of things would you all be interested in?

I won't be adding new items like titan's, imps, or bone crushers, but other stuff is possible. I'd like to get some ideas from the community as to what you would like to see added. Just because you suggest it, does not mean anything other than I will read it.

All changes would of course have to also be approved by the other Staff and especially +Colibri.

Here are some of my thoughts:

1) Bring rewards more in line with OSI.
2) Add new map locations for Ilshenar, Tokuno, and Malas.
3) Add a new map level (or more) (name suggestions? Level 7 - Diabolical)
4) Add some surprise rare items.
5) Add facet specific items, to give non-recall-able locations more benefits.

I am planning on using something like: http://www.uoguide.com/Treasure_Map as a guide.

What kinds of special items would you like to see for new maps?
If we can keep things themed to the facets even better. For instance,
What are some things you would think to find when completing a map in Felucca? Maybe ethereal powders, like from UMMs.
Maybe ointments or essences.

How about Tokuno? Ilshenar? Malas?

Please keep this thread constructive, and helpful. This is meant to generate some ideas that will add some more excitement back into Excelsior.

Any, all or no ideas submitted may be used, at the discretion of the Staff of Excelsior. Any ideas may also be modified to fit the needs of the shard.

Sounds good :D Don't really have much to add there... Maybe on facet specific stuff, like: Malas -> Doom arties. Illshenar -> more paragon stuff. Tokuno -> Major/minor tokuno stuff.

Possible new artifacts only obtainable via T-maps?

'Ancient' T-maps (like regular SOS -> Ancient SOS)?

You can make millions off doing Ingenious T maps. I think they are fine the way they are really.

After thinking about this for a few minutes and reflecting on things that could be and what things are now, having the T-Maps, well any map for that matter, be facet oriented would work best for everyone. By adding items that are benefical to those specific areas would greatly enhance the game play. Take Tokuno for example; being able to receive items such as Totem of the Void and being able to use it, the different quivers, and the Aegis of Grace would be awesome. Also keeping in mind that the higher level tmaps (6-7) would have to be completed by more than one person. What good is it for a player to become godly and just go through the spawn with ease to achieve the items. Make them earn it. Having a rare drop such as the skeleton key (one use per key) would be something to shoot for. Also quick question, while players starting out in cartography spend so much on writing these maps out, can it be possible to sell these maps back to the vendor at an equivilant price. Seems a waste to make so many and end up dropping for tokens when you can in turn spend that gold on more materials to train. I looked up the artifacts guide, just for fyi and the links go onto the other arties pages to get some idea of what people might want to look at. http://www.uoguide.com/Artifacts_(Treas ... _Artifacts.

I like the idea. I hope the staff comes to an agreement on the topic soon. I know I will be looking orwrd to the sea quests and upgrades in the future.

great ideas +r

I like the idea of adding something to a felucca map to make it worth the manual exploration, already guardian mobs can drop oints but perhaps adding them to the chest loot itself could make it more interesting

I see absolutely nothing but a quick win to improve the maps make them more viable as a passtime etc

All good ideas. I don't know if Level 7 is necessarily needed but facet specific items is a great idea.

I like the idea of surprise rare items, stuff that can only get T-Hunting (similar to how can only get certain items through gravedigging).

Uni-dyed deco (portraits/thrones/mugs/beds/etc) + clothing.
Not that we'd wear the clothing on our chars but we can use them on vendors etc :)

Extremely horribly omg-you-got-one! rare drops of costumes. o.O

Superfruit - like a purple banana that gives you +20 str for 5 mins.

I think bringing them up to OSI par a bit would make them more desirable. And I love the idea of Facet specific rewards especially for Fel / Ilsh where you can't recall to. I currently sell the Fel ones as I don't feel they are worth the trouble, but if they had more gold, better items, I would do them. Also, what about rare gems instead of regular gems. This would make them much more appealing to me.

As I said I love this idea but I have one of my own maybe that could go in tandem with it... how about less JUNK! I hate with the tmap chests (and doom and para chests for that matter) it's like search and search for that one item under a pile of trash! I wouldn't mind searching through tons of weapons and what not if there was a chance that they would be good, but this is not the case.

I think each treasure on the uoguide are interesting to add to the treasure chest. This idea of diabolical map is perfect imagine need 110 lockpicking skill...

I could become back to what my character represent , +1 requiem.

For some idea, im sure you already have a lot, try what you have in head and talk about that maybe later. Only to ameliorate the system right now is perfect

I enjoy doing tmaps and MiBs because it breaks up the monotony of grinding monsters for gold. The gold amounts are somewhat paltry for MiBs and tmaps that have to be completed in Felucca seeing as you can't just teleport right to the spot from a rune library. However, I'd be even more excited if there were chances to dig or fish up semi-rare deco. It could be simple stuff that's already in-game, yet impossible to find (as far as my knowledge goes) like the old dried onions, herbs, and flowers that were a Moonglow stealable on OSI and the copper, silver and gold wire and hot metal piece you could steal from the barrels in Buc's Den.

A old of the old-world OSI stealables that haven't been active on our shard are going 'live' here shortly. Lots will go into the new "newbie" dungeons I'm adding, others will show up in Doom and so forth. Requiem has a list of about 15 items he can use for treasure maps that haven't been available to players at all up till now.

Exciting stuff :)

good news for sure but definitely making felucca maps worth doing would be good, although I am guilty of doing quite of few of them, mostly lvl6's tho

Do not bump the gold figures up if u care really about the economy and gold on this server, i have hundreds of T maps and used to average about 20 to 30 Ingenious a week paragon farming. Otherwise on top of the 10 to 15 mil just paragon farming I could be making u could turn it into 30 Million.

I love this thread. Great ideas and something fun to look forward to! :) Thanks +Requiem!

Greater rewards for non-recall tmaps - heck yes! Makes perfect sense.
New tmap locations - Heck yes! So incredibly long overdue in UO.
New tmap level - Absolutely! I am unable to think of a name better than Diabolical.
Rare items - Sure, why not? I'm as addicted to pixels as everyone else. RE: Which rares specifically - I have no idea what staff would ultimately consider acceptable and players' tastes are all over the place, so I'd just like to offer a resource for players and staff to look over and get ideas or choose items from: http://uo2.stratics.com/items <---- a lot of amazing things there

Bring rewards in line with OSI - Agreed. It certainly seems to me that, at the moment, tmapping is not a worthwhile venture due to the time/effort vs. profit ROI (with the exception of level 6). It just should be made worthwhile enough that players who enjoy tmapping don't feel like they're ripping themselves off if they indulge. Regarding economic stability as an issue, I think decisions regarding gold output should be based on the average player's gold-producing ability. You can't base such things on the outliers who have 3x more play time or 6x more relayers than the average player. They will overachieve no matter where the bar is set; they're the people that the raffles and auctions were made for especially.

Unique idea - Instead of tmap chests containing rares directly, they could perhaps randomly contain a special currency (electrum coin, rose quartz, whatever you like). The chance to drop the currency would be scaled based on the tmap level (for example - Level 2 1:500, Level 3 1:300, et cetera). Then the special currency could be traded in for rares. Create a chart with a selection of available rares with price in [electrum coins] shown. Players could turn in currency for rares via either stone, special vendor, or paging a GM, depending on staff's preference. I think that would make the rares a lot more truly "rare" and desirable, and would create some real excitement and a new market for tmapping. :)
