full screen

Post by Craxis »

Okay just got in and started playing. Is it possible to make the game full screen and if so how?

UO was designed to be fullscreen back when 15" CRT monitors were the standard, and 14kbs modems were the norm. It was the best at the native 800 x 600 pixels of the monitor.
That is archaic, but so are the graphics for this game.

Your best bet is to launch the game through Razor and in "windowed" mode, and force the game size to what you find the best.
It is under the "More Options" tab. I use 1024x800px. Because of my location, I have a bad ping and tend to see a lot of black triangles on my periphery when I'm running about. This old game just can't update fast enough graphically to make it smooth, but it is a good trade off for me. Gameplay trumps spiffy graphics.

Can someone comment upon how other utilites, like UO Steam, can change the game window?

The black triangles don't have anything to do with your connection. The game can only load a certain radius of tiles around your character, so if your game window is larger, you'll see black triangles of space where the game isn't loading content because it's too far from your character at that time.

^What +Nyx said.

The black triangles are distracting to me for some reason so I reverted back to lower game window size.

For some reason I just remember being able to play on a larger screen back in my UO days

Back then, screen resolution was much smaller, so the regular 800x600 uo window took up a much larger portion of the screen, and in some cases *was* full-screen. But nowadays, most systems have much much higher resolutions, so the UO window takes up a much smaller portion of the screen.

When you play, just reduce the resolution on your monitor. That's all I do. I play at 1280x768 on a 40 inch Samsung
