Destash Raffle

Post by +Nyx »

Starting on April 28th, I will be opening the first Destash raffle. Also known as the "junk raffle", this will be a month-long event in which you can turn in your junk items for raffle tickets.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Raffle System:
At first, the raffle building may seem a smidgen confusing or overwhelming. Not to worry, though, it's laid out for maximum efficiency and it is very easy to use. Here's what you need to know:

- The raffle building is located in Excelsior Halls. From the teleporter, follow the path south and take the first path to the East. You can't miss it. The building will remain closed until the raffle opens, and between raffles.

- You must be fully patched to participate in this raffle. If you cannot see black and tan striped walls on the building - You are not properly patched and will not be able to see the raffle tickets in your backpack!

- Each room is for a specific set of items and each room has a bright white sign near the entrance that tells you what items that room is for. For example, there is a room labeled "Gauntlet Artifacts", which has boxes accepting artifacts found in the Gauntlet. Truly, it's really rather self explanatory.

- Once inside a room, there are various metal chests surrounded by items on tables. Each section of tables is separated, so that the metal chest takes only the items that are displayed on the tables surrounding it. Where you see gaps between the tables, that is indicating a new section of items for a new deposit box.

- Each item requires a specific number be submitted before rewarding a ticket. Once you drop the item into the box, you'll receive a system message that tells you how many more you need to deposit before receiving a ticket. You will likely want to make note of this number for your own reference. The staff will not be able to find out for you. Keep track for yourself if you will want to know how many more of an item you need to submit before receiving a ticket.

- Deposit your raffle tickets into the gold "Raffle Ticket Box" which is located in the main room of the bottom floor along the west wall.

- Raffle tickets are account bound and cannot be traded or sold. You are free to sell the items required for this raffle, but not the tickets themselves.

- Boxes only take the items displayed. Attempting to drop any other item into the boxes will result in the item being returned to your pack.

- Every deposit box accepts numerous different items. Each item a box takes is on its own counter. On a particular box, you may need to drop in 20 teapots in order to receive a ticket; but on the same drop box you might also be able to drop a painting, and that would require its own specific number of deposits before returning a ticket.

- Some items are grouped in boxes by direction or type. All greater Tokuno pigments are on one counter - you can drop in any combination of colors to reach the required number for a ticket. This also works for all items with multiple directions - You can drop a small square basket facing east and a small square basket facing west, and they will both give credit on the same counter. Generally speaking any item with multiple directions or colors will be grouped this way.

- Items with uses or charges must be in their full, unused state in order to be submitted. For example, you cannot submit a prospector's tool with only 1 use left on it.

- Some items, primarily the Tokuno basket rares, must be in their original hue in order to be submitted.

- Partial tickets: Some items are so low in value, so easy to get, and/or in such abundance on the shard that they needed a rather high number in order to result in a ticket. It didn't seem reasonable to require someone to drop 200 shells into a box for a ticket; so what I've done is create a small partial-ticketing system. For these items, you will drop in a much smaller number of these items and be rewarded a partial ticket. You then drop your partial ticket into the bright pink "Ticket Changer" box. 5 partial tickets will return a full raffle ticket which can then be dropped into the gold "Raffle Ticket Box". With the exception of decorative plants and seeds, any item that would normally have required over 60 deposits per ticket has been converted to the partial ticket system. The items that will return partial tickets are marked in red on the list of accepted items below.

- Due to the way some items are scripted serverside, a small number of items were not able to be grouped. Dip tubs, for example, are separated by type. There was nothing I could do about it and I haven't been able to reach Colibri for assistance on that. Instead of excluding them all together, I've simply added them each to their own counter. So, you'd need to add the required number of lightning dip tubs in order to receive a ticket; but you are not able to combine lightning and Poison dip tubs for the same count. To help cut down on the irritation of this issue, I have made the 5-use dip tubs part of the partial ticketing system.

- Where there are items of exceptional value in the same grouping as ones of little to no value, I have excluded the high value items to help prevent "oopsies". For example, you are not able to turn in bone crushers and the box that accepts champion skulls will not accept the skull of enlightenment.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules:
- There will need to be 1,000 or more tickets submitted for the grand prize to be given. Should there be fewer than 1,000 tickets at the end of the raffle period, one of the alternate prizes will be given based on the final number of tickets. The alternate prizes are not displayed - they will be a surprise, but I promise you they're exciting!

- Your account must be 7 days or older to enter the raffle building.

- Almost all spells are disabled in the raffle building, as are pets. This is to prevent spam, trolling, and blocking visibility.

- Once you have submitted an item it is gone. You cannot page and request to have your item returned to you. You cannot pay to have it recovered from a backup. It. Is. Gone. Do NOT deposit ANY item you are not 100% willing to lose for the sake of a raffle ticket. There will be absolutely no exceptions made for anyone, at any time. In order to contribute an item to this raffle, you will have had to place it onto your character, pick it up, drag it to the box, and drop it in. There is absolutely no other way for an item to end up in these boxes. This does not ever happen by accident. I understand that dragging dozens of items can be tedious, and you may be temped to create a script to do it for you; you may do so if you wish but you do so at your own risk. It is your own responsibility to ensure the item you are submitting is the one you mean to submit. Please save me the drama and frustration of having to say no and do not even ask for item(s) back. Utilize common sense- pay attention to what you're doing and you won't have any problems with lost items!

- If you receive jail tasks higher than 25 at any point during this raffle you will be barred from participating and your tickets will be wiped. Alternately, if you become a large problem for me (IE: via drama), you will be barred from participating and your tickets wiped. You will be informed if this is the case. +V and I are beginning to take a much firmer stance on avoiding the drama llamas; they should not be benefitting from the fruits of our hard work while they make problems for us. Watching people run our quests and attend our events all the while they're bashing, lying, and creating drama for us makes us not want to log in to staff at all. Thus this rule will be a permanent fixture at all of our events and areas from here on out. Don't want to be excluded? Don't be a drama queen at our expense. It is really not that difficult.

- If you discover a problem or a possible cheat/exploit with the raffle, send me a page in game. Direct it to me, and explain the issue in the body of the page. Please do not reply to this thread or PM me on the forums - send a page.

- If you have a suggestion for another item to include, do not post it here. Please post it in this thread, paying attention to the requirements I posted: http://www.uoex.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8137

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the Raffle Ends:
- On May 28th, the raffle will be closed. I will then have to go through the ticket box, count the tickets, and perform the actual raffle itself. Since I can't be totally 100% positive what my RL schedule will be like on May 28th, I'm giving myself a few days' grace period on the drawing. Thus, the winner will be announced at the latest by June 1st. I hope to be able to finish it up and announce the winner on the 28th, but we'll see what happens between now and then.

- If you do not win this raffle, your tickets will carry over for the next 2 raffles. Anyone with over 75 tickets will be given an additional small prize, and their number of tickets over 75 will be wiped. At the end of the 3rd destash raffle, the ticket box will be fully wiped and everyone who had participated up to that point will receive a participation reward. At the beginning of the 4th raffle, everyone will be starting with 0 tickets once again. This is to help encourage players to contribute to cleaning up the shard (and their own storage space) even if they don't win the primary prize.

- For this first raffle, the reward will be winner's choice of one patch-graphic weapon. The deed will allow the winner to change their weapon relayer into the appearance of one of the displayed options. There are 3 options available - a sword, a hammer, and a bow. The winner will also receive a winner's trophy. Currently I am waiting on Colibri to add a small functionality that will enable these weapons to work properly once changed, but he has promised me that it will be in and working before the raffle ends on May 28th.

- In celebration of the first destash raffle, a participation reward will be given to any player who submits 1 or more raffle tickets. Participants will still also receive another participation reward after the 3rd raffle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please only reply to this thread with pertinent posts. Take the time to read everything above before posting. Most questions have already been covered and don't need to be asked again. Anything off-topic, already covered, or not appropriate (IE: suggestions for items to add, griping about the items on the list, etc) will be deleted to keep this thread trim.

Few Comments:

1. The item rate for most stuff is high for most young to mid players. This is understandable given the amount you are trying to pickup.I was a few short of getting the recipe scroll one and I thought I had a ton. But I can probably harass lady mel some more in the next few weeks, so no worries!

2. Certain items don't stack. If I put several different type of doom arties in then I have to get 15 of each. I can't put in 6 dryad bows, 6 taskmasters, and 3 serpent fangs. This is even if they go in the same chest. I'm guessing this is to help make sorting easier if the shard is trying to take item clean up counts at the end.

Good idea for cleaning up wasteful items. I'm sure some of the vets will downsize their houses quite a bit.

This is intentional. There are quite a number of items which return partial tickets, which will be an easier way for newer players to participate in the raffle.

This is intentional and mentioned in my original post. Each box takes numerous types of items, but they are not grouped onto one counter. Each item has its own counter. The exceptions are items which have multiple directions or colors. All greater pigments of Tokuno are grouped - they are one type of item, even though that item comes in numerous different hues. All furs are grouped together onto one counter, even though there are multiple directions available. Items which are simply a standalone, like a bowl of bloody water or Taskmaster are on their own counters, because they are each an individual type of item.

I've added numerous items to the list and changed quite a few others to be on the partial ticketing system. If I have time and motivation tomorrow, I will be looking at the other items and considering adding more to the partial system. If you have further item suggestions, please post them in the junk items thread found here: http://www.uoex.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8137 - Make sure you're paying attention to the stipulations before making a suggestions. Also check the items list in this thread to make sure it hasn't already been added.

Just noticed wands from chests are not accepted as they read as regular not magic or unidentified not sure if intentional or if was overlooked as I said wands that were tried were from dungeon chests where crystal balls also found.

It isn't because they aren't named that way - All wands are just called "Wand", I named them "Magic Wand" and "Wand of Identification" on the table so people would know that not every wand was accepted.

Hey +N, would it be possible to see the #'s required in advance, like on a forum post or in-game book next to the related chest? Not that I want to create anymore work for you, you've already put in a lot of effort here! The place looks great and the idea is inventive and excellent! :D

It seems a lot of people aren't paying attention to the post -.-
Numerous people have complained today that they aren't getting their tickets. You *are* getting your tickets. If you cannot see them in your backpack you are not properly patched.

Below is a screenshot of the first floor of the raffle building.

If this is not what the raffle building looks like for you,
you are not properly patched and will not be able to see the raffle tickets in your pack.

Properly patch your client and when you log back in, you'll see the tickets in your pack (they are there, regardless of whether you can see them or not).

are these just generally directed at older players? There is nothing a young player/newish player can get rid of to participate. Kinda crappy.

If you're young, why would you need to destash? Secondly, a new area was built specifically for new players with gear that non-new players can't obtain. Go get some tokuno artis in the few hours that takes and participate. No one is preventing you from doing so and it has already been mentioned there will be at least 2 more giving you ample time to save up some stuff and participate. I'm starting to see why staff get a little jaded reading responses like this. Just say thank you for the awesome work and many many hours put in to giving us something to do with all of those useless items.

I'm a new player (only been here two months) and have been turning in things from GraveDigging and arties I got from hunting in Tokuno and Ilshenar.

Oh I have been doing the new player quests, which have ridiculous item counts vs. spawn rate. On average, with the amount of time i get to play, I find maybe 1 - 5 of the quest items on over 100+ things I kill, And when its collect 100 of this or 50 of that + kill 50 of this, kinda puts me off from getting to do anything else here.

I do appreciate what the staff here do, don't get me wrong, its a free shard, I vote everyday as I think this server is great. I played here a few years ago, and when I got the urge to play again I knew where to come. There was a bunch of other free shards, but without the perks this shard has. The few "older" players i've met in game have been nice, but generally, the majority of older players on this shard tend to be on the snobbish side.

And I see most days i log in and it says XXX players are online, but I maybe see 2-5 actually at their keyboards playing. Alot of the older players just sit and do nothing. Trying to meet new players to adventure with seems kind of impossible.

It is not difficult to gather items for this raffle regardless of whether you're new or not. Regarding the Mistvale quests, they reward you with a set of really excellent gear and thus the quests are intended to take a long time to complete. If you aren't willing to work hard for the items you want here, and you feel as if there are only 2-5 people playing on any given day and that they're all snobbish - maybe this isn't the shard for you.

Either way, this thread is not your personal soapbox. Kindly stay on topic or don't post in this thread at all.
