Public Service Announcement: Players Impersonating Staff

Hi all,

It's been called to our attention that there are player(s) that have recently joined the shard claiming to have been staff here previously. From the logs, I see that they're using this sometimes for favor/bragging rights and sometimes to intimidate others they are angry with. Considering that if these lies are believed it could easily cause the other player to be wary of this person for fear of repercussions from us, or to show them favor they might not otherwise have, and that it's been going on for over a month now - I figured I'd make a PSA letting y'all know that this is absolute bunk.

Anyone who was formerly staff here isn't going to be using that as bragging rights or to scare other players. There are a couple former staffers who play here as players, and they just play as quietly and normally as the rest of you. They don't (and wouldn't) inform other players of their legitimate former staff-status. This would just anger +C (and the rest of us). Anyone who was genuinely staffing here previously is either on good terms with him and wouldn't want to upset him that way - or they were removed from staff and wouldn't want to give +C a reason to remove their playing privileges here.

I've looked into the player(s) making these claims, along with +V (since he was here longer than me and remembers more staffers than I do), and it is not a truthful statement that these player(s) are making. Please do not buy into anyone making such claims and please realize it is an absolute falsehood they are telling you for the purpose of manipulating you in some way or another.

If you see this happen after the point of this post, please send a page and let us know so that we can deal more directly with the culprits.

And for those who might now know, staff names always start with a + in front. If you for example see "StaffColibri" it's definitely fake. Although there are many blacklisted words that make a newly registered character's name invalid, there's no limit to creativity. So just look for the + on the name

Off the topic, but We need more staff members in general. Please take into Consideration, It would be very nice to at least have ONE staff member online at all times, The last few times I've sent a Page, it never got answered. It went Q, for A hour. Then I gave up. Thanks for listening.
I know its hard to get more staff, but this was just a opinion.

Mr.jones - Protip: If you have an issue for a page and need to log, go back to the page menu and select the option to stop receiving alerts. This escalates the page to a permanent queue that will remain for us to see, even if you log out.

+C went through a hiring round a few months back but did not find the right candidate. He makes a forum post when he's actively hiring for new staff, but interested parties can (and do) apply at any time by emailing him or sending a page in-game.

Karianne - yeah, seems to be an ego boost for them, and a way to get people to view them as more important/involved/knowledgeable than they really are. It's quite sad, but it'll stop soon. Or else

I truly appreciate what you do and what you deal with helping to run a free shard. I am not very vocal on the forums but I do read them and try to keep up with the issues. IMO I don't think anyone can really know what its like to do your job, may I suggest that you do a GM for a day event where someone has to log on with you, answer pages while shadowing you, and possibly even handle mediation on a dispute. The kicker is they cannot log off until you do or all the pages have been answered. I think it would be pretty enlightening especially if the (un?)lucky player has to write a follow up blog "A day in the life..." Just a thought.

Problem is I have no idea whether this should be a reward or a punishment...

It wouldn't work as the player would need access to GM tools/staff information and such...
