What does +Nyx look like in RL?
Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
Oh, and one final thought to get into GMs heads - for every angry and frustrated player there is 100 who are happy with what you are doing. I doesn't matter whether you hear it out loud or not. It is so. Really, really keep it in mind at all times.
Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
wow that certainly sparked a tirade of comments, particularly was moved by the teachers comments. Having been a school principal, and EO adviser, disability advocate, and behaviour management specialist, I can understand your angst. All I am asking for is in game respect from staff with no discounting on the assumption that I am a juvenile who is trolling. Respect goes 2 ways, you dont get it just because of your title or position, you get it because of your actions and your effective communication with others,, ok perhaps i was unjust however I do always thank Nyx for events and cakes, and my log will show that, and of course being an Aussie I am a great Galah, silly birds they are....

Tildane, if one's actions cause others to either earn or lose respect for them, then please take a moment to consider how the staff feels when we see a player doing what you did in world chat on the 22nd at 10:14-ish shard time - you even discussed that you were doing it solely to try and get a page answered faster.
Carzikan: Yes indeed, you made my week the other day
and now I'm smiling about it again.

and by the way that is not my avatar it is me.
Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
thx Nyx you have a better memory than me or better access to logs cant even remember what i said, was it very bad? I do recall asking if we could create a small event for +V in Town Centre for his birthday without him knowing and getting a "NO" response from you and saying you had made cakes etc just thought it might have been fun to see if we could get the shard together for something other than an auction and surprise +V, oh well, never mind just another Galah idea.
Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
Everyone has access to the chat logs via the portal.

Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
Well, i just know 3 or 4 online games servers (another games) when the admins are in constantly close with the players, admins sometimes lose a little of respect, but you can punish your sons like a father, but can not like a friend... when i was a admin on a game, i really figure out, the players are like kids and admin a father, you can be friendly with them but dont let them pass the lines, in this case the rules...+Veritas wrote:Player breaks a rule, player gets into trouble, player feels that they were somehow wronged by being expected to follow the same rules that everyone else has to follow, fuels the fire, then lashes out whether passive or actively aggressive. I wonder what the product of this whole trend will be...Any ideas player base? What are your thoughts?

Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
i don't play as much as i would like too, but here's my 2 cents worth
players.
1) we are guests in this house.
2) we do not stir up drama.
3) we will respect the staff (respected is earned not given *becoming staff proves you've earned it*)
4) stop trying to get free stuff for nothing. (problem the real world has)
5) be humble and helpful.
6) simple questions look on wiki. harder questions ask in global. really hard questions go to a vet. impossible questions page.
7) be patient with pages, because see below. no one jumps to a snap of the fingers nor global BS (baloney sausage
)
Staff
1) you are hosts in your house.
2) when you say you are going to do something then please do so.
ie....
http://www.uoex.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4619
please read all the rules on throwing a party. yes, i know she proly didn't have a guest list.
3) respect people (personally all the staff has shown me total respect *except 1 gm called me greedy in front of like 30 peeps during an event once* made me almost quit)
4) delete all drama starting threads (people who go shard shopping might see negativity and not the positive).
5) punish properly. punishment fits the crime.
now i've been known from time to time to throw hissy fits. i think everyone has had their temper run away wit them.
sadly enough i do not think 3-4 staff member can run a shard of 100+. this is how the line up is.
this is what i think not something i know for a fact.
Active staff:
+V America
+N Australia could be wrong here.
+C Europe
+M America
seeing that most people in America work. times played usually is 2300-0300 shard time. that's 7-11pm
People in Australia usually play around dunno shard time but they are usually around 14-16 hours from usa.
People in Europe shard time. which is 6 hours ahead of central usa time.
we have heavy staff involvement around 8pm-4am my time which is about 2am-6am shard time (+V and +N usually on this time). +Colibri is usually around at 3-6pm central usa time which is like 1900-2100 shard time. +Mocha gets on
we don't have any staff members on around 9am-6pm shard time. if we say staff members are on for 4 hours(if they are so lucky) x 4 staff members = 16 hours worth of coverage, which leaves 4 hours+ (some staff members are not so active as others). to adequately cover all hours of the day 5-6 staff members (seriously) are needed to cover the time zones.
I'm almost to the point of totally quitting. there are some things that have erm.. changed. also, a lot of fighting between the players and the staff.
what does staff put up with day in and day out? i've been staff so i do know.
here's what they have to put up with.
pages
complaints about cheaters
cheaters complain they were not afk.
putting together events (10-20 hours worth of work here sometimes more during debugging and testing)
more pages
more complaints.
event not working right (more hours)
staff meeting inform about new/changes
making deco--brain storming, getting permission etc..
checking forum.
AND while doing this you get more pages. pages.pages.pages. never ending. so please remember Patients is a virtue, but Sloth is a sin.

I totally agree but with a slight diferrence. See below:4) delete all drama starting threads (people who go shard shopping might see negativity and not the positive).
I was thinking that there should be a thread designed just for airing out issues but it is only accessible by registered uses, no guests. And it doesn't show up on the main page either. This way everyone who is interested can view the posts, make comments as necessary but not drag all unwilling or visiting viewers into the fray.
Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
This thing with me supposedly "yelling" 'NO' at a player, that did not happen. Furthermore, this was not someone wanting to pay to throw a party, and scheduling in advance as required. It was asked the night of +V's birthday after he'd said hello briefly before going afk. At the time of the request, +V was potentially going to be unavailable for the rest of the night, however that is not the business of any player. I was PM'd asking if it was possible to speak without +V being able to see it, to which I said 'No'. Next PM said that it might be nice to have bday wishes at auction room with a cake. However, I had already made a cake and +Colibri coded the stone for me, so I wasn't authorized to do more. I replied that there was already a cake made for +V and it was available in TC. Nowhere in any of the 3-4 PMs exchanged did I yell or was I rude. I certainly did not go into full detail, but there are reasons why we refrain from doing so. As much as we love our playerbase, you guys aren't privy to everything that goes on behind the scenes, let alone things that go on for us outside of the game. Sometimes you're just gonna get a simple answer without hearing all the details behind that answer. It's the nature of staff-to-player interactions.
I want it to be clear that just because someone says we were rude, yelled at them, or were otherwise unfair doesn't make it true. It seems that many have a tendency to exaggerate, whether they realize they're doing it or not. I refer to it as 'Mountain-out-of-a-molehill syndrome'.
Oh, and I am not from Australia
My schedule is pretty steady - I am generally logged in from early afternoon to very, very late at night (US time). You forgot about +Jade who is usually on in the mornings until the evenings, also US time. We may not be talking, and we may not respond to PM's, or answer every page during those hours. But we're usually around.

Re: What does +Nyx look like in RL?
*coughs* I have only been here a handful of months. But I will say this. and yes..the bunny is about to NOT be nice.
I'm tired of hearing people complain about the staff, the wait time on pages, blah blah blah.
You are not the ones that have to answer multi pages for hours on end trying to please every single player on the shard.
Ontop of that, you are not one of the staff members that work over time doing the scripting to make sure we, the players enjoy a great game created by those staff members.
Those staff members have lifes, family, children, jobs. They cannot be here every second to hold your hand and make sure you are ok. Deal with it and move on , act like adults..be mature. and if you are going to complain please take the next number and wait in line because im sure the staff members have complaints as well.
But..now that im done being mean..
I love this shard..i love all the players and staff members. all of us work to make it a enjoyable place to play. so please..when you see a staff member helping you out..or someone else out..thank them. show them you appreciate their hard work. I know everyone enjoys being told good job..thank you.. anything like that.
and im sorry i sounded mean..but nyx and +v, +c, jade..all of them..work very hard to make sure we are happy and i think we should all show them that we appreciate it. no body likes to be complained to..so why should we do the same?
...and.well umm..*hands out cookies*..im sorry but i felt i should say that...
