Leveling Jack Sparrow's Cutlass...
What's the best way to level Jack's cutlass in your opinion?
Re: Leveling Jack Sparrow's Cutlass...
Honestly, the same way as any other weapon, kill stuff.

Re: Leveling Jack Sparrow's Cutlass...

I mean what stats to raise?
I want to put everything in offensive spells. But interested in others opinions.
Re: Leveling Jack Sparrow's Cutlass...
Lightning is my favorite offensive spell, but i also love Hit defense lower, and mana drain is also very helpful health leech isn't that useful since Vampire form.
Re: Leveling Jack Sparrow's Cutlass...
I'm a firm believer that Jack Sparrow's and Quacklebush's cutlasses (cutlassi?) are the BEST non-looted weapons to level up and use as relayers. I would put all the points in affixes that can be used once its changed to an article of clothing or whatnot.
Here's what I did with my spending points (with the exception of Luck, Self Repair and Spell Channeling, acquired from deeds): Before you ask.. yes, I put 1 in Enhance Potions and Lower Reagent Cost - I ran out of things to pump up.
If you're planning on keeping the Jack's as an end-game weapon, however, I would put nothing but Hit effects on it - Lightning/Harm/Fireball, Mana Leech and Lower Defense. Hit Element Area would also be interesting since the damage from that being triggered is based off the weapon's natural damage, but it may not be as effective as other weapons which have whirlwind (and if a Jack's is layered as another weapon, it loses its high base damage).

Hit Lightning and Hit Fireball
No sense in Mana Leech, as it has the crappiest abilities possible.
Life leech is nice, but I doubt I'd use that anywhere that would be worthwhile (where monsters use MS, i.e. Umbris/Wrong)
Stam leech is meh, shouldn't add it, just good if its on a wep
HLD/HLA are like stam leech, not worthwhile to add, but nice standards.
Best bet, for a pure damage wep (which is the best choice, considering the damage that thing drops)
50 Lightning, 200 pts
50 Fireball, 200 pts
Str/Hp, 56 Pts
Dex, 12 Pts
Leaving you with 27 points for lower requirement, the best stat of all

I like Shadow Strike ability. Saved my life many times. But you are right, there is no point in mana leech. Basically I plan to do exactly what you suggesting. Although I want to make lightning 60 and fireball 45, just because of dmg difference (30-34 and 26-31).Devlin wrote:No sense in Mana Leech, as it has the crappiest abilities possible.

Actually, there is one thing I don't quite understand. Why everybody puts dex on a weapon? I mean it's pretty easy to get 215-220 from armor and PS. What use from dex above this level?

To be fair I believe Devlin was talking about the special abilities on the weapon, when he posted this.Stranger wrote:Devlin wrote:No sense in Mana Leech, as it has the crappiest abilities possible.
To be better said, he is short sighted, IMO, because there are a few other spells that cost a range of mana that are worth while when fighting in combat with any weapon, whether it is re-layered or used to fight with, because of Mana Leech.
Combat Spells: Smite for starters... and if your using the shadow strike ability to your advantage then your using a lot of Ninjitsu spells; which a few are impressive by themselves at high level Ninjitsu skill.
The few I use: Death Strike - does a higher amount of damage then a normal attack with a DoT bonus... (Damage over Time) Surprise attack works with Shadow Strike, and Focus attack mean your never going to miss ha ha (note that I've seen Focus attack do a ton of damage with the combinations found on Devlin's Awesome Guide, but i feel this might also be due to Hit Lower defense kicking in at the right moment ha ha.
Lastly, if you are of a balanced mind and blend taming with melee fighting, then having mana leech on your weapon helps you continually cast Touch of Life sufficiently on your tanking pet.
I agree with Devlin if you're only using this weapon for its base damage and special abilities. But if your casting the random spell like smite, healing your pets, or down with your inner Ninja... then maybe Mana Leech is something to look into.
Criticism is good because it improves upon what came before, and solidifies the strongest of foundations.

Me too. Cutlass has Shadow Strike as its second ability.Danilo Thann wrote:To be fair I believe Devlin was talking about the special abilities on the weapon, when he posted this.
Re: Leveling Jack Sparrow's Cutlass...
yeah, everyone always argues for shadow strike.... im all for the quickest method, stealthing to attack isn't up there on my list.
Shadow strike does comparable damage to Crushing Blow, but wont match it because of the low base damage.
Edit: on a normal cutlass, that is... high dmg on the sparrow, so i guess it would annihilate. but still. stealthing? rofl.

Re: Leveling Jack Sparrow's Cutlass...
Stealth, shadow strikes and all this ninjitsu stuff are good until you become overpowered tank, able to whirlwind out of any situation. Now I am daring enough to go into heart of battle, but not strong enough to survive. LOL. And often I find myself in a place where I can do only two things, hide or die. Or maybe recall out of this mess, which I hate to do, so I prefer to hide, move to a better spot and attack again. Or even take down some scary mobs with shadow strike spamming.
