is there anyway i can pay for a Weapon type change with gold and not ed?

Well there's no person that can statically exchange any amount of ED into gold and vice versa. There are always non-donor player who want ED, and there's always donor players who want gold. That's one reason there's no "1 mil gold" on the list of donation rewards.
So you just need to buy the ED from other players, or from staff auctions, or even from events although i must admit we're a bit low on those lately.
Oh and just one thought i had yesterday, ... now the 30k gold per ED might be settled in, but is that really the right price? Might be 20k, or 40k. ... who knows
My point is that just if someone tells you they're 30k, that doesnt mean that this number is set in stone. But i guess we'll see more of this after i upgrade the Exex, to allow direct bid/ask prices on some of the common stackables.
