Maybe this will help getting your new stuff out to the other players

1) Edit the verdata.mul (if you don't have it just copy from disc) with the new .bmp files

2) Use UO Mul Editor 0.6.8 to create a patch from the modified verdat.mul file

3) The patch is around 4mb so it wouldn't be that bad for people to download.

Now this patch will be named verdatapatcher (or something like that) but it patches the currently used .mul files.

Sorry for the horrible explaining, I just woke up like 5 minutes ago.

Hey, I wasn't able to find an official site but it is still available on some old UO modding sites. Here is one site that has it along with a lot of other old UO stuff

http://ultima.lonet.cz/download.php

The version I use is 0.6.8
If there is a newer version I haven't found it. It does require a verdata.mul file to use but that of course isn't hard to find. I refuse to go into detail on how to mod the verdata. I used this program to mod the custom excelsior client using Dragon Desktop v1.2 from 2003 with no problems (except for the newer gumps). Took a little bit to remember how to work with the verdata.mul file and how to use this program. Here are some shots of my client now so ya know I'm not just talking :D

Forgot to mention that the programs shows the option to edit the verdata file with bmp files directly with the build-in verdata.mul editor. I did not try it out though because I patched the verdata then made a patch from that to patch the current files in my client.

Can you set up for a dual boot, or if you have an extra hard drive you can just install xp on it and then leave them both in the system with a bootloader. And I'm not a big fan of the dragon desktop myself, Just wanted to use it to test out this stuff. One thing I do like about dragon is that the casket gump is animated. Oh, and I'm surprised Wine cant run this prog without freezing. Unless, it has something to do with it using the OpenGL wrapper.

How is that freedos working for you so far? I haven't used anything like that in years so I'm sure they have come a long way on getting it right.

Looks like I might of found another way to be able to mod the .mul files but not sure yet how easy it is as far as patches go. It's a program called UO Fiddler. Looks to be a more advanced version of insideUO that is actually still being supported. Allows you to see all the graphics and change each one. Here is the official home page:

http://uofiddler.polserver.com/

I must say though, it is a shame we can't use the new enhanced client. There is work going on to make it possible to loot something and have it go into its own separate bag. As in gems going into the gem bag, bones into a bone bag, weapons into a weapon bag, etc. Not to mention a grid system is also being worked on for it. of course that is also being worked on for the classic client as well.

Now we just need good graphic artist to remake the main graphics of the game like characters, mobs, tiles, maps, and everything else. With that, your DashGUI, and a custom client then Excelsior can cease just being a private uo shard and move on to being it's own game (or world depending on how you look at it).

Sorry, I get carried away when I think of what could be. :)

Something bugs me about the looks of dashgui ... i think you should make the edges a little softer/thinner, especially with the skull it looks too artificial. I like the general idea, though, it makes things way more clear.

By the way ... can someone tell me how to modify the login screen, or just send me the grafic or something, please ?

Sure thing. This short, very badly written tutorial is for MulEditor

1) On the right side of MulEditor you have a drop down Mul browser.
2) Double click on "Mul Files" and then double click on "Gump"
3) You should see a list of ID ranges. Double click on "2000 - 2FFF"
4) Now double click on "$2329". This will open Gump Editor with the login background image loaded.
5) You can now just replace the image with another 640x480 8bit (possibly others, haven't tested) image
6) The ID numbers near this one are the other graphics for the login screen if you want to change them also. When you load each one you will notice that the top of the Gump Editor will show you the image dimensions so you know what size you need to use.

Here are a couple of sites that have replacement gumps and login graphics

http://www.uo-desktop.uoo.ru/news_e.htm
http://uo-graphics.uo-francophone.net/index_en.php

Hope this helps point you in the right direction on changing the login screen.

Nah, i want something more original for Excelsior, so i'll cook up something new. The only thing that bugs me is the weird color pallette, it makes it hard to get smooth gradients.
