My char name is Bilbo online and i'd just like to share some thoughts with you about my experiences over the past 3 weeks.
I have played pretty much every mmo in existence and have loved some and hated others. I played WOW hectically for around 5 years 6 days a week raiding etc. I stopped MMo in general and recently thought id give UO a try (considering its lasted so long)
I played on the UO gamers shard Hybrid mainly because it has like 600 people online at a time so i thought it must be the best.
Here is what happened.
Day 1. -Start a mage char by clicking on "mage" during creation screen.
-Oh look im in a town full of people... stand around for 3 hours by (which i would later found out is the brit bank) asking
somebody to tell me what to do next
-Some guy shows me a place to fight (which i would later found out is brit GY) make around 200gp killing skelatons.
- 3 Red things show up casts something called paralyze , casts something and im dead (would later found out these are pvp kiddies)
- Found out ive lost all my regents ( at least gold is newbied) Buy more regents go to brit gy again, get ganked again etc untill all my gold was finished.
To make a long story shorted i ended up creating 5 characters just for their starting items and everytime they got wiped out financially.
After 3 weeks of playing I got abolutely nowhere, and really thought uo was a crap game.
I then remembered that I hated PVP (even in wow) so decided to give this game one more go. Found this server and created an account.
This is my experience so far bearing in mind i created my first character on friday. couldnt start my char at work so i read the whole WIKI page so had some idea of what im getting into even though i didnt understand everything. I start off in an amazing colored room with signs and people all over the place. First thing that catches my attention is newbie donation area. What ?!?! Free stuff?!?! I run in there a fast as I can and come out all pimped out.
Still really weary that some high level guy is going to come around and chop my head off and take my new Armor so cautiusly walk around and check things out. While watching everybody go about their business I get a PM from somebody called Phoenix... (wait a minute .. a PM in UO.. OMW thats nice... ) Anyway he tells me to come to Brit bank and I walk over the pretty red teleported thingy and choose brit bank. Only it doesnt look like brit bank at all. Totally amazing. PM Phoenix to make sure im at the right place. He finds me Teleports me to his house and yet again gives me amazing items and shows me around. Im amzed by everything. He drops me off at the newbie dungeon.
Absolutely own everything in newbie dungeon being pimped out ofcourse and start collecting organics. Sell these and make 60k. !?!? 60000 as a newbie.. wouldve taken be 4 years getting that killing skelies on Hybrid
Anyway it is now 3 days later and i have 150k in the bank, My own house, Ive done 3 champ spawns, ive done the gauntlet in Doom, Various other dungeons, visitited an Auction event [did stand up comedy at said Auction event
] Have met at least 4 friends. Had a GM visit me in newbie dungeon giving me the young player bow (went with wrong skills and got the sword) and the list goes on.Finally and sorry it took so long to get here excelsior is one of the most fun MMO experiences i have ever had, mainly not to the game even though that is ok , but due to the amazing people on this shard. I just have a list of people i'd like to thank for my experience thus far.
Phoenix : For showing me the ropes and giving me the tour and pimping out my char.
Jokerface: For taking me with you to the champs.. And giving me half the gold even though i maybe killed 10 monsters!
Stanley Cleaner: For taking me into his guild and showing me many things in UO i have never known before
and lastly probably my closest new friend
Lancelot Link : You are a Legend, thank you for everything i'm not going to list all of it here.
Lastly to all the great players of the shard that has helped me up to now as well as the awesome staff. I intend to stay for a looooong time.
BIG mistake there i started and got autowhaked by tons of PK's Millions of times (they use a tecnique thats called Para-Explo) (i know cuz once i was a PK in a shard :S) well as i was saying got Para-Whaked alot of times, lost all of my money so i thought well if you cant beat them, join them... BIG mistake again xD got killed several more times and PK's don't get their items and get ultra looted even to the last item. so i thought i should become a thiev that was actually alot of fun, cuz i stole from PK's and good players and got Guard Whaked like a billion times and diddnt loose a thing cuz it was all in my bank xD but finally stopped playing at Hybrid and Kaimelar (my older brother) found Excelsior among all of the other Shards and we both instantanially loved it cuz it was like this Big family where everybody helped you with everything and it was preatty cool xD.

) The no PK was a major factor in me coming to the shard, another was a soon to come pet that has never been implemented. Don't sweat it Col, I have found many other reasons to stay on the shard. For those that want pvp here reading about the experiences of Blibo and others just reinforces the reasons why we DON'T want pvp here. Or at least definately not the bullying version of pvp.
