Re: BoD book
Just so you know Ishamael I wasn't being rude or horrible with my post, I just wanted to give you another view to take of how the situation can be taken.
As a few others have said I've done some silly mistakes on my vendors too, But then I have always under priced my stuff just to keep stock moving.
I see things for some silly prices either way to high or way too low, There is nothing better than for a new player to come in seeing something like this and thinking *thumbs up* maybe someone is looking after the newer players here... or maybe it could be just a greedy player of any Excelsior age...
Have you tried asking over [c yet Ishamael? maybe if they don't read the forums there is a chance they will see that message.
These things are put here to learn from so you know for next time, you may even do it again another day who knows..
Good luck though.

Re: BoD book
Another option might be to see if a GM would be willing to receive the returned BOD book from whoever bought it with the guarantee that the buyer's name won't be revealed.

Re: BoD book
Aye; that's what I was suggesting as well. To have staff play the part of a "median" so that no one's name is brought into the fray.
Sorry; but if I paid 999gp for something, and was offered 800k as a reward for returning it; I would have returned it within the first hour.

Re: BoD book
Not to sound negative, or be the bad guy here... But staff wont do anything, for few reasons
1; They are too busy with the 180 players here
2; Even if you did pay the player services, because it was done on a vendor, and it was your mistake that you didnt "double" check the price... They the Staff cannot do anything, it was a player trade/vendor and if you mess up the price, they cant fix that, "you should have double checked it"
One example here, if I was selling something for 100k, and someone was buying it, and in the trade window the 100k, showed 1million, I saw it, and was gonna see if the other player didnt, and there goes the 'check' and bam, the item worth 100k, i just sold it for 1 mil... Staff cannot jump in and say "hey that was an unfair trade" yes, to everyone it is, but the staff will say "you didnt double check what you were buying/selling" otherwise you would have cancelled the trade, and made a 100k check...
Theres alot of good points made here, but bottom line is, Staff cannot do anything in this mispriced vendor matter, and just in hopes the person is not 'greedy' and keeping the mispriced item... This happend to me in a similar matter, and that was the bottom line they gave me
Good luck, once again, i dont mean to put anyone down, this is just the bottom line their gonna give you, it happend to me, and it happend to you, and its gonna happen again in the future
Take care, and hope the item is returned

Re: BoD book
reality is sadly to say "you are not gonna get your book back, unless it was a mistake of the server", but things do happen. i paged a gm about a bio that went poof. i checked it frequently, but the gm's looked into it as well as some of the admins, and i got my bio back. So, hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. maybe i'll get off my lazy posterior and get some more bods for ya. Could also be a really new person, who doesn't visit the forums, and doesn't know the price of items, or maybe it's some idiot person who really doesn't care what people think or say, because if it was anyone...ANYONE would brag about it to a friend and word will get around.
thank [omit what you believe in] god people are predictable. the ones you have to worry about are people who are solo and those really quiet guys. you know the ones who sit in the back and are quiet. also, listen for people in chat looking for animals to tame. hm... oh yeah might want to broadcast over global, free 800k for the right person. keep it vague but keep the money in there.
too bad we don't have a lost and found system or something. i've found on the ground: 3 skill balls, and 2 trash backpacks. sorry got off subject a little.
also, go near the rune library near the mage shop in brit. watch to see if anyone goes there a lot. you could also check other vendors to see if any of them suddenly jumped 100 bods in taming.
oh yeah forgot. maybe a gm could hold on to the goods. you know to keep whom ever a secret? like the person who has it can page a gm and the gm would give the gold. you think they would?

Re: BoD book
They will not socialize in this type of circumstance... In other words "poop happens", the server did not make it go bye bye, and even if it did, it was on a vendor, so admins/staff will NOT be apart of this situation... Now if it was stolen, or like you mentioned, your bio vanished, those are fixable... And like i mentioned above in my previous message, the staff will not participate in this sort of event, because it was due to the fact that the player did not double check, or price it correctly...anarchy wrote: oh yeah forgot. maybe a gm could hold on to the goods. you know to Keep whom ever a secret? like the person who has it can page a gm and the gm would give the gold. you think they would?
You mentioned some good ideas, but what happens when he finds out who it is, or seeks out this individual and finds him/her ... "can i have my book back?" ... "no" ... ??? Cause a scene? get in trouble? get banned for harassing?
To be more direct, the book was priced at 999, and the other person bought it for 999gp, fair and square... Why should the staff come in? It was an item on on a vendor, priced, and the person bought it...
Theres alot of ideas i see that involve staff, already 20 posts, and its "well staff can do this, can do that, maybe help, etc" ... Not gonna happen... This matter will be dwelled on the idea of Ones good being, honesty, an all that good stuff.. If not, theres really nothing you can do...
However, you can use the money you got from a few other players, and use the town criers to broadcast the message, im sure that person will see it then... Just a thought...

Re: BoD book
Whose to say that the item didn't "glitch" per say? Just yesterday I had several items that didn't register the correct pricing and I know for certain it's not "lag" on my end. Sure; you can criticize Ishamael's error in not "double checking"; but is this going to set the standard to require people to become Obsessive Compulsive?
I never suggested staff involvement on the basis of Ishamael got "cheated"; but moreover that this sort of situation calls the buyer's morals into question; and now we could see several people taking advantage of such situations and any idea of honesty and good-will goes out the door.
The town crier suggestion is actually a really good recommendation (as often as I recommend it for guilds that are recruiting!), I'm surprised at myself for not throwing that out there.
I still see no reason why a player service could not be requested in investigating the matter; we all know full well staff would never release the buyer's name; so turning Ishamael into a "perpetrator" here with worries of "harassment" isn't needed.
Regardless if the buyer is new to Excelsior, or even UO, they clearly knew they were taking advantage of the seller.

well. undertaker you have some good ideas. really good ideas. i think maybe he should give up his quest, and take the offered money as compensation for the loss, and take my bod book, then forget about this. ah well. books all yours if you want it.

I guess this falls under the category of "I won't do that again". I know it was a longshot to get it back. I would gladly pay the reward, but truthfully, I am ok with this. Kinda like the tome I lost 15k assorted ingots in a chest I forgot to lock down. The fun in the game is the harvesting, and I won't let little setbacks like this break my stride. Thank you all for you thoughts on this, and the reward still stands.

Re: BoD book
Yes; Ishamael may have forgotten to reset the price; but to me, that's very vague. What-with all the reports of server "glitches" lately; despite most of them being shot down. I've had a number of interesting things occur over the last few weeks but reporting them is just wasting time since they all could be cast off as something I may have caused.
Anyway; as for me suggesting staff involvement: Yes, I suggested it! I'm confused as to why you would reiterate that I said that? Please, reread my last post, specifically this part:

I apologize for "upsetting" anyone; but frankly, I'm overwhelmed at the idea that staff would so readily shoot down a mistake that causes a significant setback for a newer player. Thus why I suggested him mentioning it to staff; because neither I, nor you Undertaker, can say for sure what staff would or would not do. +Colibri and the rest of the team do make the occasional exception when they feel it's needed. If I played a tad more often as of late; I'd gladly foot the entire bill.Orbit Storm wrote:I never suggested staff involvement on the basis of Ishamael got "cheated"; but moreover that this sort of situation calls the buyer's morals into question; and now we could see several people taking advantage of such situations and any idea of honesty and good-will goes out the door.

Re: BoD book
Ohh yeah done that so many times even left several bod books with hundreds of bods each on a pet, which then died and I had no time to loot it haha. It's deff something that is upsetting, but I just took a break from bods for a while then just started ALL over again from scratch. It's a shame you lost all your hard work but you will get it back again.Ishamael wrote:I guess this falls under the category of "I won't do that again". I know it was a longshot to get it back.
