Notice of Absence

Post by BlaZe »

Around 1:30PM (EST), Monday afternoon, my mother (age 60) was at her work chatting with a coworker - in the middle of the conversation, she collapsed and became unresponsive. An employee gave her CPR until the paramedics arrived and took over, but she didn't make it on their way to the hospital. We didn't know exactly what had happened until this morning when the Medical Examiner called us back, cause of death being a Diabetic-induced heart attack.

Please, if you have been diagnosed with Diabetes or any other form of 'manageable' disease, don't ignore it and hope it goes away. My mother had Type 2 but I think she was in a state of denial; I don't ever recall seeing her check her blood-sugar levels (nor have I seen any records of it around the house). It eats me up that, for all I know, her death could have been avoided by simply eating a proper breakfast.

While we're in the process of taking care of things, you probably won't see me online much. I plan on logging in once every day or two to take care of breeding pets, but I really have no desire to play until everything of hers has been taken care of.

I am extremely sorry for your Loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. I'm sure I speak on bahalf of the shard when I say if you need anything, just ask.

I think it speaks volumes of your character that you would, in typical blaze fashion think of using such a tragedy to post a thread with advice for helping others.

Blaze;

I'd like to offer my sincerest condolences to you for this tragic loss. It is heartbreaking to hear these sort of stories.

TheWatcher is correct in saying that you posting this in hopes of helping someone else in life; says something about your personal character; it shows charisma, truly.

I wish you the best of luck in working through this rough time and I hope to see you back soon. I think I speak for the rest of Excelsior in saying that we're all here for you, and we'll certainly miss your presence. I know that with as much as you've helped me in the past; I can't wait to see you back. :wink:

My father was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes as well, mostly resulting from severe damage to his liver. I guess the old alcohol habit has caught up to him. Either way, I can vouch for your remark, Blaze, that Diabetes is nothing to be taken lightly and it isn't nearly as hard to manage as it was a decade ago. It used to be you couldn't touch much of anything; now, you can virtually eat what you want, and when you want, just need to monitor to intake.

Once again Blaze, my condolences. Good luck.

A loss like that, which could have been avoided, is painful... I understand the feeling.

A year ago. My wifes brother (a year older then she is) at age 21 was driving home, the same route he does on a daily basis, taking the same curves (for those of you who know what Oregon looks like, you know what i mean). Underestimated the turn at his speed (which was approx the same speed everyday according to the siblings), went off the road, over corrected, flipped several times, hit his head on the road (while flipping) and there wasnt enough serum to save his brain... Went into a coma.

This happend on a Tuesday night, Thursday evening few mins befor 8pm is when he was pronounced dead. A true christain he was, my friend had his phone, one of those reminders you can set on ur phone, at 8pm, his phone goes off, my friend looks at it, and sees the reminder..

All it said "Go Home..." .... At the end of this month will be his one year anniversary in Heaven... The old memories are returning, and things are getting sad...

The moral point in this story, is 2 things: 1, God takes us home at certain ages, for certain purposes, which we may not understand at times... 2: Dont underestimate the power of speed

My condolences goes out to you, Blaze....

My deepest condolences. My mother and grandmother both have a mild form of diabetes so I can sympathize somewhat on that topic. Furthermore, my father had passed away when I was young due to a heart attack so I understand your loss. I wish the best for you and your family. Take some time off and grieve, it'll help tremendously on your way to recovery.

Thanks for your support guys, I'm sure it goes without saying that I love ya all. :)

I'm throwing this out both as a reminder to myself and for those people who I know personally who play here and who would want the information. Her viewings will be on Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 at Burden (Chas. and Son) Funeral Home in Jackson. On Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church we have another short viewing planned at 10 and the funeral will be at 11 with a luncheon afterward - Google for the addresses/directions or PM me on these forums and I'll get them to you.

@Krazy and ACE: I'll be sure to call you both today in case you don't see this post.

Death comes to us all, and for some it comes more often then we would readily understand. Eventually we, ourselves, are the personification of death for others. For we: mothers, father, sisters, brothers, husbands, wives, friends, and online gamers, all will eventually sign our names on the obituary of time. Death they say is the beginning and not the end. This I believe to be the truth, though that truth itself is directly represented by the individual trying to figure it out. For all of us realize the truth in different ways, and in such ways that only we can truthfully understand.
I did not know your mother Blaze, and I barely know you; but the fact is I know of you and call you my friend, as do so many others. The world is a lesser place, when good people pass on, but that doesn't mean they are gone completely. Only their body is gone, but who they were lives on in us, in you Blaze. Never forget this my friend, for though your road is one less stronger, and times may become harder without she who helped you grow. What does not kill us makes us stronger. I can only speak for myself, but I believe that your loss is shared by many. Shared by those who have lost a love one, and by those who have yet to understand the hurtful feelings of loosing someone precious to them. Just like; mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands, wives, and friends are all priceless, so too, is a worthy friends happiness. I wish you and yours the best, and though my words may be fruitless and small indeed compared to your loss, I say them out of obligation and not charity. Brother to brother, friend to friend, I am there for you should the need arise, with all my heart. Often times that knowledge is enough to start the healing; for one to simply know they are not alone.

For days now i have wanted to say something to blaze. Something i could not put to words for a lack of words to say. I am not the best with words as some of you know all to well. I believe that Danilo Thann has put the best words possible to how i think we all feel about this situation. We all love you and feel for you blaze, you and yours are in my heart and the hearts of all of the staff members in this, your time of need.

Be Strong BlaZe Budd.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush,
Of Quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

[Native North American prayer]

Peace and Love to you and your family.

That's a beautiful poem, I think its what my brother included in his eulogy.

When we (the family) were making arrangements at the funeral home, they showed us a list of poems to choose from which would be on the cards passed out at the viewings. I wanted to share this one which we thought she'd prefer to the others, and I hope some others find consolation in these words too:
I'M FREE

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me;
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with a remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss -
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with time of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much:
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee;
God wanted me now, He set me free.
I'm not sure on the author, but I'm definitely grateful for them. We later realized that this was the same one printed on the cards at Randy's funeral(a great friend of myself and a few others here on Excelsior, before we started playing here).

Thanks again all, for the words of wisdom, sympathy and care. I'll be getting a bit more active online in a couple weeks, I can't say for sure exactly when, but I'll be around. :)

blaze i'm sorry to hear your loss and your in my prayers and thoughts. you are lucky, because i never really knew my real parents and i've always envied other that did, but i had wonderful adopted parents that mean the world to me. :). it's hard to lose people that we love, and i hope you'll be strong through this. Love the poems especially the native American prayer.

About diabetes there is a surgery now that's kind of like a pancreas transplant but it's only a few cells in the pancreas. the problem: you can only get them from people that passed away, and so remember people please please please sign the organ donation on the back of your driver's license, because when you pass on to the next level; you really don't need the organs right? :)
