UO Origins...

Post by gavenvo »

I checked through the forums and didnt see a post like this so I figured I would give it a try. I am always curious when I see a game like this and where everyones original origins were in UO.

I played on Atlantic From release till the dreaded "bluebies" patch aka Trammel. My chars were as follows:
Fridmarr 7X Hally/mage
Breen De Sol 7X DP/Dexxer
Several other crafters / pk'ers

I miss the good ole days of UO and the great ppl I met...Malvariousone,Leper,ComaWhite,Mrscreation,GIGI,DruggedUpHippy and many many more. Thankfully most of those people followed me to EQ/Shadowbane and lastly WoW before returning here.

Please feel free to share your stories and your origin in UO and who knows maybe you'll find out you know someone on Excelsior that you played with years ago! :-)

Hey,

I started out onTAR POL (The Altar Realm), My char was called Renton JR, I wasn't much of anything I used to just be there to socialize with friends and have fun lol

I remember the likes of Renton, jksdhsdks (or however it was spelt), rug muncher, Orb and robo as close friends on the shard.

Ahhhh the good old POL days, I was useless didn't know anything about UO really haha, ok, ok, I still don't but it's all good =P

I played OSI once and thought it was awful, would never trade to them again.

ok....

played osi superior hated it because a jackrabbit owned me. left went to athlore. athlore ran on 55a which was nice but buggy. I started a guild called mercs. after assimilating pretty much everyone minus a few. we decided to kill off the rest who didn't want to join the guild. Althore closed. then we moved to extreme uo, which was also a pvp shard. only 20 of the original mercs stayed with me to ex uo. The other 10 decided to go off on their own to age of mondain. They were having problems so i left exuo to help them out. after killing most of the players the rest quit. Age of Mondain closed. then the 10 and me went back to exuo, we decided to split the team into clans and the clan leaders were in the guild. After forcing exuo to close we moved to britannia ii. where a person got mad at us and challenged us to britannia ii (A osi clone. 7 x gm) their pvp was so unbalanced. warrior hits mage, and the mage fizzles, but... mages can cast and run at the same time. after a few lightnings (remember there are 30 of us) from one of us the warrior would be dead. they said in their rules rpg not inforced just recommended. guess they didn't like pvpers/pkers. we were banned, and now learning to actually play the game we went back to osi, where i got real uo burn. burned out. stop playing for a long time. oh yeah core failure whatever happened to that?

what of me now. i'm tired, and old. just want to play and have fun. just want to meet people, and help out the people that need it. cause you know; no one really helped me when i first started to play, and i almost quit; i really don't want that to happen to another person. so i'm a retired old (sometimes grumpy) pvper. :)

I never played OSI. Back in 2000 I started on a shard called Nuvous, it was PVP but it was not well maintained, had lots of bug abuse. My favourite memory was I once killed a player, then a week later sold it back to him. He said, Hey, I made this, and I said yeah, remember I PKed you on that island last week lol.

Then I started on a wonderful shard called The Darkside Shard. I realize there is one called that now, but it is not the same. This shard was well managed. Being way back there was no Powerscrolls, this was when Lost Lands first came out. My Character was Mandos. This shard was highly customized. They took a page from the game Diablo and made Unique drops a big thing. You could get your skill over 100 this way. Also there was uni armour as well. I enjoyed animal taming. I got to over 150 taming and could tame anything on the shard. You didn’t need to peacemake or subdue them either. The game was, find the rare spawn locations. That was how you could get coloured rides. Never to fight with, just to ride. People would fight, then die, then their ride would be killed. So I started a vendor, I always had a huge selection of rides, affordably priced. My vendor because famous. On that shard vendors where placed, one in a house, and in any open house in a city. I had mine in Cove. The same place I now rent as a home here on UOEX (ahh nostalgia). I became quite rich and became a well known vet over time. And like now, I was really into house deco. I never really fought many monsters until near the end.

The end of the shard came because a player got disgruntled and made an attack. This shard paid a company to handle the bandwidth, the player did some sort of attack that sucked all the bandwidth from all the other services that the company provided and then the company told us we had to leave because of the liability. I believe the shard did re-open with a new admin, but it was never the same and it was as good a time as any for me to quite. That Shard was Admin Dek’s. I swore I would never play again because that shard was highly customized and I did not believe that UO could ever be that good again.

However, years went by and I was really missing it. I found out about UOEX and gave it a try. Now my opinion is this. Back then, as we all know, UO was a different game, so for its time TDS was the best shard there ever could be. But now, UOEX is the best for the new game that UO has become. As it happens, I hate taming now and love battle. But still love deco.

There is my rather long winded story. I wonder if anyone played on The Darkside Shard? Remember me, Mandos or perhaps Mandy in Cove?

Also, just want to shout out a thanks to the staff here at UOEX for making this place so amazing.

UO Origins...

Post by Ishamael »

I started playing UO when it first came out. I was working at Babbages, a computer software store, soI was up to date on all the new releases. I and my 3 roomates at the time, plus a downstairs neighbor, started a guild, The Autumn Knights, on the pacific shard. We often set up pumpkins and sang praises to the great pumpkin, near vesper bank bridge. We were mostly a crafter guild, though we often went dungeon crawling. One of the funniest moments of my time in old UO was, once in Cove, there were about 45 of the top shard players, along with my guild, hidden at the entrance of the orc fort. We would wait for the newbs coming to kill orcs, then everyone would charge crying "[censored]", just to watch em run. then we would all hide and wait for the next. No one actually attacked, but it was still hilarious. This was back in the lawless days of old UO, and like I said, I was mostly into dungeon crawling, and crafting, but with no controls over PvP, or PKing, I got frustrated with getting mugged every time I left a dungeon. Then the second age came out, and that renewed my interest for a little while, but there were still no controls over PKing. And after one particularly frustrating day, I stopped playing. I went on to play Everquest for a time, but I lost my level 32 druid do to an account hack, and I swore off mmorpgs for awhile. I saw the development vids for WoW and wanted to play, but I never did. Then one day, in a fit of boredom and disappointment of recent game purchases, I looked up free shards, and found Excelsior. My experiences in EXUO have been gratifying. I have had more fun on EXUO than I ever did on old UO.

I remember the early days well back in 97 I bought the game that included the cloth map and pewter UO pin and wow I still have that huge box. I am laughin now remembering this was even before I had a 56k modem and my processor was only 200 mhz! I jumped on Atlantic server with the name Brotherwolf even and started at the north brit inn and was killed by a bird while armed with a dagger wearing only a shirt and pants. I moved on to minoc to try out mining and that got boring real fast. I ended up at yew lumberjacking and using a bow on trolls and such. Finally got enough money to buy a boat and sailed from yew and bashed into Skara Brae and just fell in love with that place. In fact friends that later started playing we always met up in skara brae as Brit was just over run with thieves always poking around in your stuff. A few years later I became counselor Osiris on Great lakes and loved the team we had on that shard. My counselor many times could be found wandering the halls of Yew abbey and I loved many times to hang out with the locals and chat about everything under the sun while some fun GMS would create custom monsters and freak out the locals. About this time we started a guild RP PK group on drachenfels called Eaters of the dead. We wore bear masks and healer robes on horses and just terrorized the lands. We were a roleplaying raider guild and never camped on people and multi killed em. I think I quit the counselor job and UO a few months after the age of shadows release and then played Shadowbane then city of heros and tortured myself to 4 years of wow and now I am back in UO on the best shard ever. The team Coli has on this server is top notch and unmatched. So glad to be back playing UO again!

I started about a month or two after release. I started on Great Lakes, since I live in the area, and was immediately turned off to playing with other people from my area (because they all seemed to be jerks). I moved to Hokuto in my first week, and played there the rest of my days. I was a Swords/Smith/Magery class. I still remember my early days mining naked in Minoc and having people try to PK me in the mine. I eventually got into a big guild and the guildmaster had an internet crush on me, so I ended up being pretty influential in it...although now I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Lol. Man, that was so long ago.

After that I played Asheron's Call for about a year, got into a clan run by someone with the last name Stormwind, I believe, although I can't remember that guild's name either. Then I played Anarchy Online for a long time, almost two years...then Shadowbane for like three months, then Asheron's Call 2(booooooo), then WoW for the first two months it was out (was not impressed), and then City of Villains. Then UOEX :) Also during my time here I have played Champions Online (fun!) and Star Trek Online (not what it should have been, big disappointment).
