Importance of Imprisioned Pet Str and Dex/Stam

Post by Hanarg »

There has been much conjecture on the importance of imprisioned pets str and dex/stam in relation to the amount of dmg done and their swing speed. Reese and I did some fairly objective testing under different circumstances and these are the conclusions we have come to.

How much does Str matter to imprisioned pets?

I put a 285 Str Sqrl and a 357 Str Sqrl on my personal trainer in my house there seemed to be a consistent 5-10% difference in damage with just two squirrels on the trainer I put 3 more squirrels into the mix that all had Str's around 310-320. This is where it gets interesting. The difference in dmg jumped to over 20% which is approximately the difference in Str between the two original squirrels (285 is ~80% of 357 hence the 20% difference) I ran this test with my pets and Reese ran it with his and we came to near identical data conclusions.

The next question is whether other not dexterity and stamina matter in a pets swing speed. According to posting by +Colibri and I quote:

"the thing with pet's speed is, that it's calculated on the bases of currentHits/TotalHits - so once your pet has only 1 hit point left, it's about 1/2 or 1/3 as fast as when at full health - when it's dead it's about like this as well.

Would be nice to have pets run faster, but the problem with live pets is, their attack and walking speed is kind of defined in one variable, so if they were to walk twice as fast, they would also kick and cast spells at double speed..."

This is why nobles move and attack so fast in comparison to other pets. Now what the variable is that defines their attack and walking speed is I dont know. Probably some part of the coding we never see.

Our testing revealed: Dexterity does matter when it comes to pet’s swing speed. Stamina governs swing speed when it is at the same amount of dexterity or higher. This was tested on a pet starting with 103 dexterity and 59 stamina. The pet’s stamina never dropped one point until I raised it to the exact amount of dexterity, then any time it took damage the dexterity would drop. This is how stamina governs swing speed increase. Whatever your pet’s max dexterity is, the stamina has to be the same or higher for it to swing as fast as it can. If the Stamina is equal to or higher than the dexterity it adds a window of opportunity for the stamina to drop before the swing speed drops. Once the stamina drops below the dexterity of the pet the swing speed starts to decrease.

This test was a little more subjective because we couldnt actually time the swings but the pet appeared to hit faster because it killed the dragons much faster when the stamina was full and higher than or equal to the dexterity. I also noticed that the pets that I had raised the dexterity to 125 seemed to attack faster than the pets whose dex hadnt been raised yet. when I compared just two of them side by side and these were the two sqrls with the huge difference between their str's so it was pretty easy to tell when one hit versus the other.

Once again these tests were as objective as we could make them without DPS meters and the ability to parse the damage of each pet over a specified period of time under the different circumstances.

If anyone has any advice on how to make these tests more objective it would be greatly appreciated so that i can further explore this phenomenom and provide my fellow excelsiorites better statistical data to enhance your game play.

I did some number crunching a short time ago and tested to figure out the base damage difference between different strengths. According to my computations, I got the following:

355 STR = 328 Avg DMG
300 STR = 311 Avg DMG
280 STR = 306 Avg DMG

The test used damage formulas involving Tactics (at GM), Anatomy (at GM), and Str of the imps. The average damages shown are based on killing chickens and the test data to use in the formulas came from 10 chickens.

I can compute other averages based on this data, but you can get an idea of the relative difference STR causes between average damage.
