+Rayne wrote:I respectfully disagree with the notion of creating a thread for complaining, temper tantrums, rumors and the like. If you visit an ice cream shop and you do not like their prices, their services or any other number of things you wish to rant about, they will most certainly kick you out of the store if you begin to rant. More so, they do not have a complaint board, or a complaint section on their website, where people can discuss all of the things they hate. Why? Because there is no need to regard negativity with any esteem. If one wants to make rants, throw temper tantrums, associate in rumor discussion, rebel against the authority, then they may do so on their own time, in their own facility, not on the owners time or in the owners facility. Nor would such things be made available upon "entering" the owners property. Now in cases in life where there is injustice, people will seek a place of refuge somewhere else, where they can discuss and argue and rant, and that is their right. But they do not have the right to do it here.
This domain name, this forum module and the ability to speak within this module are the property of +Colibri. He may choose as he will what is and is not allowed at any given moment. Though he is very reasonable, (sometimes too reasonable) and chooses to be most considerate, beyond anything he is wished to do. For he doesn't have to do anything he does not want to do. And equally he may do as he pleases and rightfully so, as this is his property. As for the game, it is also his property, as in the equipment that enables him to offer the game to the public belongs to him. He could remove the ability to access it and it would no longer be. He could remove the ability to access this domain name, and it would no longer be available, as it is his property, and he may do with it as he pleases.
I believe this is an important lesson for everyone to understand. I expect to get many replies about "freedom of speech" and "I know my rights", etc, however when it comes to entering someone else's property, you no longer have those rights. When you are entering the "door" of someone's home, you no longer have those rights because that is private property. This domain and it's entirety is private property with an open door. We allow the majority to enter in, but we still have 100% rights to do as we please. Now again, we do not take advantage of that. +Colibri is very considerate and will only execute certain procedures when he deems it necessary. It is his right to inact any rule, cease any conversation and revoke any person's invitation to "enter this door" as he sees fit.
I do hope very soon that everyone will be able to finally get this. It is such a tiring subject, and I really hate explaining things that are in fact common sense.
Goodnight Excelsior and sleep well. Rest your minds and your eyes.

Staff members, please elaborate on this.
this is a writing from +Rayne. Can you, staff members, elaborate on this paragraph? I believe the community & people deserve much more than such a "respecful" message? thank you.
Re: Staff members, please elaborate on this.
I'm not staff, of course, but I don't see anything wrong with +Rayne's statement. No one said that constructive suggestions to improve the shard weren't welcome, just not incessant whinging and moaning. Sometimes the negativity does get ridiculous, and it sows discord and enmity. Who needs that in a game?

1. Where is the link to the original post?
2. Excelsior does NOT need a place to start flame wars.

Re: Staff members, please elaborate on this.
Well, there's a long story behind that post. To rephrase it a little bit:
This is a game where anyone is welcome to join and enjoy the play. Since it is the players that play, we also appreciate input that could make the game better. But there's a difference between submitting an idea, and frequent complaining about how bad the shard is. Actually, from the few players that I've seen, it seemed illogical that they complained how bad the shard is, yet they went on an enjoyed their day playing here. Must not be that all bad then hehe.
An important thing to know is also that we the staff are all volunteers. We staff because we enjoy it, not because we would have to, and so it's very unmotivating if we hear how lousy a job we do. Ok sure, might be a player who had a bad day, but after a good nights sleep it's all back to normal, bygones be bygones. But it's hard to keep a jolly good mood if someone is constantly telling you and also spreading the word of how bad we are, either one particular staffer or us as a team. Then there's an even more extreme version of it, someone preying on people who for example couldn't have been helped by a staffer, contacting them with "isn't this shard lousy, let's form a group". or "join my shard, it's better". And I don't think you will find a regulated shard where such things are tolerated. Except a shard it's a free for all, and we are not that kind of shard.
I got it summed in one line:
You are welcome to enjoy the *game* here.
As for "viva revolucion" and "down with the establishment", I hope you find another place for that.

Re: Staff members, please elaborate on this.
I agree with +rayne, also whinging and complaining (especially on the forum) is bad for the shard. people who come to play might check out the forum first (i did before playing here), which may make the shard look bad. I do know how it feels to be upset (i've been banned from a few shards myself), but i grew up and learned: They allow me to play here, and i am extremely grateful for that. i've also been a gm, seer, and assistant admin, which i'll never do again. never never never ever do again! It's not easy to log in as a staff member and see 30 pages, and it's not easy telling a player i can't help them. It also makes it extremely hard to have fun as a staff member when people act out (made me quit being a staff member).
also, what's a window licker?? is that like a boot licker?

Pick your battles. Arguing with a private shard solves nothing.
Everyone needs to remember the Virtues:
Compassion is nonjudgmental empathy for one's fellow creatures.
Honesty is scrupulous respect for truth - the willingness never to deceive oneself or another.
Honor is the courage to stand for the truth, against any odds.
Humility is perceiving one's place in the world, not according to one's own accomplishments, but according to the intrinsic value of all individuals.
Justice is the devotion to truth, tempered by love
Sacrifice is the courage to give of oneself in the name of love.
Spirituality is the concern with one's inner being and how one deals with truth, love, and courage.
Valor is the courage to take actions in support of one's convictions.
