Stories for the Christmas Holiday!

Post by Licos »

Once again, a very significant time of the year is coming up where many get together to celebrate life, family, and opportunity.

To celebrate the time of the year, I thought it would be cool to start a thread based on stories of players giving others the helping hand they needed to get started on Excelsior. Stories like when someone was stuck somewhere and a player ran in to help out, stories like when someone helped gear-up a player just starting, and stories like when a player escorted another to an area of interest through a dangerous area. I would also like to see some stories about how the younger players gave to help others, which is a very significant gesture. Stories like that...

So, I think it may be cool for us to share some stories about players who helped us out in the past, or recently. Players who may not have had the wealth or skill to optimally provide without sacrifice or deficit, but did anyway...

Who was your biggest helper, and what did he/she do to help you or another out?

When I first started on this server was just barley over a year ago. My biggest help came in the form of 5 people, BlaZe, Krazy, Ace,Georgia and last but certainly not least Arthur who I met last but quickly became my favorite person to get killed.
BlaZe gave me this starting up book with basic commands and helpful hints. I still have that book. Krazy and Georgia dragged me all over this server to do things that no young player should prob do, Champs, Doom, the gauntlet, Peerless. I have a family and children who play here also, Georgia made weapons and armor for us, later on BlaZe taught me how to piece together my armor so I knew how resistances worked as well as stats and other abilities. Arthur was just always there if I or one of my kids needed help, the poor guy.
Ace, oh my so much trust given to one noob , loaned me so many things until I could get my own. He really helped set me up for all my trade skills which is all said and done my love in this game which is crafting.

I have to say if not for these people I doubt I would have stayed on the server long. I'm not always the most social of creatures.
But I was able to get a good start here and love the server.
Thanks for being here guys ( and one girl)

Well, about 13 months in so my memory is a bit shoddy; but here we go. Honestly I did not seek much help starting, I mean, UO has always and will always have many tricks to getting rich, but there were a few people (despite my attempts to avoid everyone :D) that helped me out. First would be (pretty sure it was him) E'Walker who set me up with a 100 use tinker tool that got me started quite nicely on my Mining/Tinkering/Smithing road. Second would be Gouki, who both informed me of the amount of money one could acquire from the Rat Quest and purchased almost every organic material I pulled from it (I had read the wiki on the rat quest, but had no idea what kind of cash cow it was ><). Last, but certainly not least (and will surely appear several times through these posts) would be the good BlaZe. His low priced mules, answering of literally any question I have had (still refer a few to him 1 year in ^_-), his 'Welcome to Excelsior!' book (so useful that my original copy I received is still on display at the Library), and of course his Druid Tree spawn he would do from his training room (something I liked so much I mimic it when I am in a position to do so). I would do some name drops here, but I mostly stay to myself...soooo. As for me? I help no one, I steal from the poor just for the satisfaction of seeing the looks of sadness in their faces and drinking their tears! Muahhahahah *cough*, oi, need more practice with evil laughs.

Merry Christmas gents ^_-

*edit* Forgot about one other important one, +Hina! I had quit UO immediately following the combat overhaul, so I was still only aware of AR, not 'resistances.' When I paged for help on why mine said -20 with no armor; she not only explained the entire system, but furthermore explained how to raise my resist spells easily (using a clumsy macro). Definitely had to add this one, since I died ALOT before this nugget of knowledge :D.

Help when I was new, I received help from several people, but I can't remember everyone's name. However, a very nice person I do remember named Wizzer. Man this guy hooked me up good, 100k, mules, nightmares, ethereal leather Armour, leashes, hitching posts and more that I can't remember. All he said is hook new players up in the future, and I have done so. Getting that starter kit from Wizzer was awesome. At first I couldn't even use the mules and nightmares, but soon I was out with 2 nightmares killing lots and having a blast. Thanks Wizzer!

I would also like to thank Reese, when I was a few months in he took me on a tour of Labyrinth. I thought I was getting tough until I went in there and got creamed. Reese showed me a whole new level of gameplay, also taught me about imprisoned pets and how to properly heal them.

Beethoven, also taught me many things about the shard and new features of the UO game itself that came up in the years of my absence. (when i quit, champs did not exist) Without his help in my early months, my learning curve would have been much slower.

A special thanks to Poseiden, who recruited me to the SEA guild, had this not happened, I would never have met so people that would become my friends, and my game today would be Much different, I can't imagine.

Thanks Mostly to my good friends who make the game worth playing, I simply can't name you all, there are too many, but I can't end this without mentioning a thanks to Hacksaw, Ellareal and Moses, truly awesome people.

…Also, Long live the Memory of Calan!
