Lights out on Feb 1st (scheduled downtime)

A group of enviromentalists from france thougt of this and spread the word. On february 1st 2007, at 7:55 PM, we should all turn the lights out for 5 minutes to show respect for mother earth. They will even turn off the lights at the Eiffel tower.

I belive there are many theories to the current climate changes, perhaps it's the earth natural cycle or maybe there are far greater global changing factors than man - for example methane gas pockets under the oceans... plankton...
But on the other hand, I use 35 liters of gasoline in my car per month (sometimes more). And I know at least 5 people who use that amount in *three* days!

This year has been as specially strange. We had one of the hottest june-july-august, followed by a long indian summer - basically the august just stretched till november. Just now in january, the autumn turned to spring. Which is very odd for our country.

That's why I'm participating in this display of showing respect to mother earth. It's called "let's give the earth a 5 minute rest".

I expect the shard to go offline at 7:45 PM (1:45 PM eastern) and come back at 8:10 PM (2:10 eastern).

At 7:55 PM your time, you can do the same

I don't know if you were saying you were going to turn it off or what, but I've been on the entire day.

Using localized anecdotal climate evidence for global warming proof probably isn't the wisest of ideas. Considering the way our little Earth here works it tends to be very cyclical. We started off with a very mild winter in the states and now it's been ramping up and we've had continous cold weather and snow for the last month or so.

There is no valid scientific evidence of global warming, only opinions.

It was once held by consensus that the earth was flat which can only
be proved when not surrounded by water or mountains. Did the Swiss,
Polynesians or Nepalese believed this view?

The earth has experienced ice ages and hot spells since Oceans and
Atmosphere developed.

There is factual data for an eleven year solar magnetic cycles (sun spots).
Data doesn’t exit for determining if there are longer period cycles of
100 year, 1,000 year, 10,000 year, 100,000 year and 1,000,000 year and
longer.

How arrogant of us to think we have the ability to affect global climate
change whether by purpose or incidental actions.

Aye, that is true. Well I cant be sure that it's really humans who contribute so much, but if that was really so, i wouldnt be suprised. And yes, nobody can be sure what is really true.

Anyhow, as long as my intentions were good, I was very tired and just sort of forgot about this an hour before it should happen. But I could say I live a simple life - I rarely throw away food, I use little water, I try to use the "cheap" thing which means i dont use much gas
Not sure how much CO2 all my computers have caused over the years hehe - by one online calculator, 72 kWh per month equals 47 kg CO2.

Well the report comes in today..from what i understand 99% of the world's scientist believe that global warming is an" add-on factor" caused
by human's poor management of it's waste. A culture placed in a small glass container with limited space grows a high population that dies from
it's waste...lindon

PS the key word is population in a limited space world!!
There's still millions of people around do not believe that we sent men
on the Moon nor robots on Mars!

But you have the right to object!

Of all the things i heard that it was a fake, i wouldnt be suprised... And it would be a great achievement for us to go on such a mission with the primitive technology we had back then. But as one of my professors say, we dont need the kind of technology you get in a standard computer today. "The computers in the 60's were just great, why improve them?" hehe.

So id say it's pretty possible it was all true. but if it turned out they filmed that in a studio (they would have to be really good at special effects), then i wouldnt be shocked. In the end, it doesnt matter much. As long as we got food to eat and friends to joy with, and health... that's all that counts.

Of course nothing is 100% sure not even that the sun will rise
tomorrow....a bit of skepticism is a good thing...keeps them on
their toes...All truths have to be tested...for this there has to be
two sides....sometiimes we are in the majority and other times
we are in the minority.....Thruth some say is an evolving thing!

I should have added that a package of instruments that kept a daily
record of environmental condition WAS LEFT AT THE LUNAR SITE.The
information was received and jointly reported by several countries.Btw,
This also proves the lunar landing!

Most of NASA information space projects is shared around the world.
Scientists from many nations have been shuttled to the SPACE STA-
TION and the robots on MARS have been sending valuable information,
including signs of water for several years now.

There is also a statelite orbiting the planet communicating with the
robots and the earth stations. These days all outer space projects are
open and can be monitored by any observatory with it's atronomers
using the data for scientific study and mesurements.


PS It is worth mentioning that the space station is continously being
assembled into a larger space laboratory and observatory of
interest to the scientific world community.

And you're right to say is that we appreciate good food to eat
joy we have with friends and health!..That's the pot-of -gold!..
