we got the insurance bit the first time ...yes it does save your stuff. but you need to step back and look at when you were a newb.... under that 30/60/ or even 90 day mark....as a player gold money even items are not that easy to aquire . it takes a lot longer and usually a partner or higher guildmate/friend to gain the armor ...to gain your equipment ..... to just hunt in areas that players over that 6 month period have all that bonus defense on ... or for that matter the scripts that take care of most of it for them ...but then again with you making sure to post the INSURANCE idea 2 times you really do not care about other players ...YES !!!! insurance is a great idea ....but do the math on things the average player carries with them ... multiply that by the 600 it costs ....then multiply that by 3 ,4, in some cases maybe even 6 or 7 deaths in a couple hours .....why hunt then ? to pay your insurance ? the bottom issue is that the shard was up and running ... we were unable to gain access to the shard ... once access was able to be gained bodies had already disappeared. REGARDLESS corpse claim was inmpossible.. that was the only issue we had....

Coming from One who is Rich, with 40+ million gold in the bank, Everything Blessed, one Huge/Large Bag of Holding... I never thought it was an issue of dying and losing stuff...

Maybe a possibly solution? After an account passes the 6 month mark, raise their insurance to 600 per... But from 0-6 months, make it like 100gps per? ... just a thought

I like that idea. I would second it.

However, I am kinda torn over this issue. As one who has lost everything due to a crash including 2 leveled weapons, I know the pain losing everything you had. But, I did not rail against the cruel world when it happened because I knew it was a gamble I was taking and I just tempted fate way too long. And you know what, all those things that I lost, it did not take long to get back or even get something better. When other players learned I lost stuff, they eagerly jumped in to help out and I am sure that those who lost stuff the other night will find the same thing. Plus, for a lot of the newer players, the vast majority of your stuff that you wear and use now, will be just gathering dust in a chest or given away within a month. So basically, for newbies, the stuff you have you can live without because it should be easy to obtain again and don't need to insure it. Now, if you are fortunate to have some really good stuff that you really can't live without already like GOC items, leveled weapon or crafting keys full of commodities, then they should have been insured or blessed and shame on you if they weren't. 600gp is a small price to pay to protect those items, no matter how many times you die.

So, I guess I am basically saying if you are new, don't worry about it if you lost stuff, you will rebound a lot faster than you think. If you lost something really important, I am sorry to hear that but it must of not been THAT important if you didn't insure it.

With all that said, if anyone who lost stuff due to the crash, do me a favor and create a new thread with what you lost and I and I hope others will help you recover with whatever assistance I can provide.

To say I dont care about other players is not really fair since you have no idea what i do and dont do for other players.

Here is a list of things you can do that I hope will help you progress.

Insure or bless your items.

Follow the golden rule of UO. Never leave town with out insuring or blessing an item unless you are ok with losing it. Ever!

If you are being killed 6 or 7 times a night you are fighting monsters to far above your gear/ skill level at this time.

bank your loot frequently. looting a buch of gold and items wont do you any good if you dead. make bank runs.

Pets! Even if you dont like them, use them to start out. they will make the game much easier and allow you to build a savings.

hunt in tram. The monsters are a bit easier to handle. Also you can mark runes in dungeons and it makes geting in and out to hunting spots faster. makes bank runs quicker.

only carry what you need to carry . Leave your crafting stuff in town if you out hunting. losing 200 aids and and some meat for your pets is a better pill to swallow then metal keys, tool/runic houes, ect...

take up bee keeping. its a good way to make money and its pretty safe. I have not heard of too many bee keeping related deaths. Well there was one but i dont like to talk about it. bees were everywhere and the goat that damn goat! anyway...

dungeon chests. train up your lockpicking (haven theif guild) and pick chests. they have a few hundred gold and gems. they also can have ointments that you can sell for 3k to 5k a pop. some chests you dont even have to fight a monster to get to.

Escort ncps. very quick 500 to 900 gp. can be done every 5 min

set aside a % of your loot each time you deposit for insurance. I used to set aside 10% for insurance and then 25% more for an emergency fund.

accept the fact the game takes time. not everyone should have 20 million and a full set of GoC after 1 month. my account is 800 days old and i just got my first GoC item 3 weeks ago. (yes I am ok with that)

Bad things happen. client crashes, posion ivy, power outages, house catches on fire when playing (true story). point is there are systems in place to help over come them. Take advantage of them and be prepared for bad things to happen.

I and most players i know will be glad to help someone who had a run of bad luck it happens to us all at some point I think. It's harder to help someone who lost everything when they say they dont have the money for insurance yet they have a castle.

There have been some connectivity issues since yesterday evening shard time, it's gotten worse so at the moment the shard is disconnected. I am looking for the problem and hoping to have it back online real soon.

I have an idea what causes it, i did some reconfiguration but we won't know until the server has been online for a while.

I think it was because Jennifer (the lady on the right on the 2nd picture) tripped over one of the main 9.6 kilobaud lines

Ok it's now 17:10 shard time, server is back online after a full thorough reboot of all systems.

For now I cannot say if the disconnects have stopped or not, i suppose if it stays stable for a few hours that will be our answer.
