Expatcher.exe shows up as a low rep file and gets deleted

Post by Viola »

I've tried to download expatcher.exe twice and it gets automatically deleted by my virus scanner. It reports as having the WS.Reputation.1 which means:

Behavior
WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology. Because this detection is based on a reputation score, it does not represent a specific class of threat like adware or spyware, but instead applies to all threat categories.

The reputation-based system uses "the wisdom of crowds" (Symantec’s tens of millions of end users) connected to cloud-based intelligence to compute a reputation score for an application, and in the process identify malicious software in an entirely new way beyond traditional signatures and behavior-based detection techniques.

So, basically not a lot of people use it safely, so I'm not allowed to use it at all. It's probably perfectly fine, but my system screens it out. I know it's a known issue, but it's not like my virus scanner is saying it's infected. It's just saying it's too noob for me to play with. Soooooooooooooooooooooooo how do I patch?

I posted this in a new thread, so far it hasn't been answered. I'll repost it here:

Is there an alternate way to patch your client other than the Expatcher.exe. I would personally prefer to manually patch my client. I won't be installing this exe patch program, but would like to be able to play the patched version. As time goes on, as more patches come, the game might become unplayable. If there is currently no way to manually patch, can this please be provided? Thank you very much.

EDIT: I downloaded the "full patch" from http://www.uoex.net/codex/technical/patching, noticed that it still had the old hues, replaced all the other files. The globe is still not spinning in TC. So this is obviously not the up to date patch.

I will make it possible to download all the files as a .rar package, or individual files (the list will be sorted by their modified time so that you can manually download just those that you need).

Soon to come.

But keep in mind that this is an application based on Microsoft's .NET, i've made it from scratch and i can give you my word it's safe. But i suppose norton is smart enough to see that it's a program that downloads files from the internet... which is what trojans usually do. But well, i will definitely make an alternative manual way for those who'd rather do that.

Hey, Melkor, I just patched using the stone next to the globe in TC. I dbl clicked the stone and followed it to the website for the expatcher. There is a note from +C that Norton's is giving a false reading on the files and to disregard. Try going here: http://www.uoex.net/patch That's where the stone took me, I downloaded the patcher, copied into my UOEX folder, ran the file, and the globe is spinning for me.

I hope this helps ya out.
