Windows Vista + Patch = :(

Post by Albino »

I cannot update my computer with the new patch. I have Window Vista and my UOEX files are found in system 32. My Ultima Online files are found in Program Files. I cannot run the patch in either folders. UOEX folder tells me I am not in the directory and Ultima Online folder keeps asking for permission over and over. If anyone else has gotten their client to update and they run Vista, would you please please please explain it to me, becuase I feel like an idiot.

(P.S. I will hopefully be getting a new computer in the next year so I wont have to deal with this crap anymore)

You mean C:/windows/system32? I don't think any UO related things should be there.

But well, the Program Files is a protected directory, and any program that wants to make changes there needs your explicit permission to do so.
- A simple thing you can try is, if the Expatcher.exe is in your UO folder (in that same folder should be files named like, client.exe, anim.idx, anim.mul, ...), right-click the expatcher and select "Run as Administrator".
- If running as administrator doesn't work, you can manually get the files here: http://patch.uoex.net/expatcher/

Try turning off User Acount Controls. That prompting has messed many of my older programs in the past, I always keep that disabled. Link below.
