This is really simple. Just like in any other MMO that has anti-AFK scripting detection, you get a chance to respond. Usually it's a generous timeframe. If you don't respond within that timeframe, you get nailed for it.

It's completely to be expected to work this way. The definition of "Are you AFK scripting?" is "Did you not respond in time?"

AFK checks don't distinguish between WHY you were AFK. They don't care - and they shouldn't. Were you watching TV? Did you have some sort of emergency? Did your cat attack you and you had to engage in an epic battle with said cat while your Doom script was running?

All that matters is you understanding that if you do get AFK checked, and you don't respond, you could get nailed for it. That's the way it works in Eve, in WoW, in (insert game name here). So, if you're ever doing something generating any sort of income, and you're not paying attention to your screen, you could get hit with an AFK sanction.

Literally every MMO that I know about that does AFK checking does it in this manner. It's a good idea to implement something similar here on a UO shard, because it's a sound concept.

I have just posted an announcement about a tweak in the rules which will hopefully make it more fair.

I plan on implementing the same AFK Check we have for mining and lumberjacking, except that here with fighting there needs to be some due warning, the check gump cant just pop up since it can get you killed (it would hurt those who are there and really fighting, because that thing blocking your screen for just a second can get you killed).
