Ah well such a shame...

Post by Stilton »

I had to come across one sometime!

First of all let me say, I'm purely ranting and want to let off steam, and this is in no way aimed at the regular people I see posting here as you are all awesome :)

Doing my thing, walking about the Fan Dancer Dojo, seeing what I can take solo without my Mules, and after finding Succubi are a PITA, Deamons are easypie, and finally working out I can indeed kill a Balron with a lot of healing and my Bow, someone turns up in the Balron room, I move aside and let them kill the next one, then I kill the one after that, however before I can even finish looting the thing, said other person [claims the corpse!

How annoying, and mainly HOW RUDE!

Would it not be an idea to only allow you to use [claim/[claimall on your own corpses or grey ones that have sat there for a while?

It was my understanding that this is exactly how it works. I frequently have my auto claimer fail because of someone else's fresh killed corpse they've left laying around. Are you sure you don't have something automatically claiming corpses when they're detected near you?

There is already a mechanic in place that doesn't allow you to claim someone else's kill. But, the determination for who can claim a corpse is based on the damage dealt to the target. If you've done enough damage to it, then it is possible that two or more people would be able to loot and, consequently, claim the corpse.

There is an established rule that one player may not "assist" with another player's kill for this reason. If I allowed someone to "help" me bring Netopir down, I would be granting them the ability to loot Netopir's corpse when he died. Did he take Bat Wings off the corpse as Netopir went down? I'd never know unless I was paying close attention to the item scroll and caught it.

So, did the person who claimed your kill actually attack your Balron, or were they attacked by it and consequently reflected significant damage into the Balron without actually killing it? These are really the only two scenarios I could think of that would allow them to loot your kill, provided you had not left the Balron's corpse sitting there for 5+ minutes, at which point it would revert to being general property and could be claimed by anyone.

Hmm it's a possibility, was more inclined watching my own HP than what said person was doing, although I admit I didn't see any arrows/spells going off.
Ah well, like I say it's only happened this one time, so like I say - this was just me ranting :D

you had not left the Balron's corpse sitting there for 5+ minutes
Are you certain it takes that long? Never checked it myself, but always thought it was shorter, like 1-2 minutes.

Also, while a bit irrelevant to the topic - the misconception that claiming the corpses makes the spawn faster sometimes kicks in. I don't know where people get some ideas, but it's probably the same source as urban myths. So if you ever see that misconception (or any other for that matter) flying around - be sure to waste a minute and correct it. :) Maybe there should be a MythBuster topic or something?

I don't know how long it takes, I just picked a random number that seemed to approximate "a relatively short period of time".

Glad you mentioned that. I was gonna ask if it helps!

The only time a spawn starts is when the monster is either tamed or killed. so you have plenty of time to loot. now the thing is this is what i'm told but i don't know for sure. it could be it starts when you start damaging it and it moves from it's spawn area. but when we talk about so and so monster having a 30 min respawn it just means we're saying it as an estimate. i've had insta mel's pop up on me. what i'm curious about is.... Neptir dropped a paragon chest. i've seen it in tc. does he sometimes spawn as a paragon and do all peerless/monsters have that chance?
