Ideas for Auctions
To make things more fair and to ensure everyone has a chance to get something at auction I believe a limit of 2 items or so should be put on it. This will keep somebody from coming to the auction and outbidding people for 80% of the items offered. If people know they can only get two items they will be more selective on what they bid on and everyone has a chance to get something.

I don't think its a good idea to limit what someone can buy. The players that have the gold to spend shouldn't be limited on what and how to spend the gold they get. If you think its unfair play more or find ways to get more gold. At an auction things go to the highest bidder.

It about showing a little consideration to fellow players. Let some of the newer players get an item they have been coveting and working thier butts off for weeks to get gold and tokens to get the items just to be outbid by somebody thats been on the shard for years and probably already has three of the item or doesn't even really need it. I don't mean to offend anyone this is just how I feel. I am a fair player and I help as many as i can as do many on this shard., but I just feel like everyone should have a chance and their is no way somebody that has been on the shard 15 days, 2 months, or even 3 months could outbid somebody that's been on the shard for years.

personally, i was able to roll with the big boys (financially) after about 3 months.
also, i dont bid on items i already have unless i need them desperately, but i do understand the feeling of being overshot, i had it he first 6 times i went to auction too
you wonder where the *DEVIL* do they get that kind of money ... untill the day comes you pay Xai 1.5 mill for a lore sash.
my point: dont worry, the day will come when youc an afford that kind of stuff, and you can always ask the rich people to play nice before hand, people are friendly enough to comply, i imagine.
and now for a primer on game-world economics: some of the things are MEANT to be scooped up by the insanely rich, to undo some of their vast storage of cash.
This has to do with issues of inflation. inflation occurs when the total sum of monetary funds in the economy exceed the total value of present 'liquid' assets.
an example is the american economy; money is borrowed (at a STAGGERING rate) overseas while jobs and industry at home do not increase, the value of the $ is lower when there are more of them, compared to the same amount of goods and services.
the same applies for UO, if rich people have nowhere to 'sink' their money into they will start offering more to get the same , otherwise cheap, resources (supply and demand effect).
in short: you *want* at least a small amount of retarded prices at auction, every million that disappears there does not get to ruin prices 'on the ground'.

I commend you Dark for taking this to the boards and not in-game. I wasn't afforded that luxury and got treated pretty shabbily for my bidding practices. While I understand your point, and like others had to deal with being low man on the totem pole in auctions, old man's right that 1. It really doesn't take long to amass wealth here, 2. The gm's have to have a way to drain cash from the player base.
Be prepared however when you do reach that pinnacle of success, no matter what you do people will not be happy if you start outbidding them, no matter how long they have been here or you have been here. New players will come along and feel exactly like you do now and some veteran players will resent the fact that they get outbidded by someone that hasn't been here as long.
There is one alternative and thats private auctions where you have to buy a ticket just to get in. That way those who have the coin will have a place to blow it all and perhaps be satisfied and leave the open auction to others. Although my desire to participate in auctions has been rather depeleted, I would rather have this come about than limiting people to a set number of items.

Re: Ideas for Auctions
Limiting auctions really won't help anyone.
This is the only source for *lots* of items, deeds galor. If you mess with the rich they'll just push the bid artificially high even when they don't need it so that you're forced to blow your all you gold when you do win the item you want. If there's something I really want, I've got the bank roll to get it, but I don't bid much, and I don't show up to the auctions much in the first place.
So long as there is no other way to get most of the items at the auction, things won't change, and trying to put artificial limits on it won't help.
