Pet breeding for new players!

Post by KnitePrince1 »

have had 5 different new players asking me about breeding in the last few days..
FIRST!!! Read this!!!

http://www.uoex.net/wiki/Pet_Breeding

Then feel free to post questions you still have...

it seems to be the consensus, that breeding is fast and WAY too easy among those who have not yet done it, and they are filled with anger about the prices of Max bred pets...

In the beginning.. breeding IS easy.. you dont fail much to start with freshly tamed pets...

You tame four animals.. You can breed every 12 hours, TWO pairs with each character..

Then you wait 3 days for the baby's deeds to mature. The orange letters tell you when the deed can be returned, and they will turn green when the deed can be turned in to the breeder. At lower levels, I believe the COST to turn those deeds in to the breeder is less? I do know that at max level for mules it costs about 15K per deed, or 30 K for two.. The parents of the babies are in mating delay and cannot be used for Six days from the time of successful breeding.. IF the breeding fails, they are in Delay for 12 hours and cannot be used/bred again until the delay wears off.
At higher levels, you will generally fail as often, or more often than you will succeed in breeding, and each time you fail, its 12 hours before you can try again.
Each pet has a specific amount of times it CAN breed, Normally, it is between one and three times. i have one pet with 4 breeds on it, and occasionally.. you deliver a baby, train it up, and find out to your dismay, it is Sterile!!!!
Sterile? Really? Yep, which means you have to wait for the parents to come out of delay.. three more days.. then you wait another three days for the babies.. NOW, this is providing that the parents are CAPABLE of breeding again.. if one, or both of the parents only had the one breed, then you are going back another generation to start over.. at times, i have had to step back three generations in order to get back to where I was... yes, each new baby costing an additional 14 to 15K...
NOW... the next expense you need to understand, is that dropping the deeds on the breeder, does NOT guarantee you a male and a female.. More often than not, I get two males, or two females.... if you have a large inventory of bred pets.. you can mix and match from different parents to get one of each gender, but normally, it requires a gender change deed, which costs 25K tokens (75K or a bit less gold) So that also adds to the expense....

Since i breed mules, i am going to use them for this example, other pets with different stats will vary;

To max mules.. you start out with two fresh babies form the MOA Champ.. breed them.. wait, and deliver the babies.. take the babies out and train them up.. If they had good levels to begin with,, you might be able to get them to lvl 28 - 32..
Now, you click on them, go to NPC Info, click on the red diamond.. in this menu, you can now ADD the experience points.. normally the points gained are between 100 and 200 points.. You can add these points to str, Stamina, etc.. but you only have lets say 150 points.. so you add 150 points to their str on both babies.. so lets say they now have 300 str, all other stats are still as they were, the same as their parents averaged... so NOW, you breed these two..(Use a Gender deed if both were the same gender) In three days, you get two babies with 300 strength..(Ar ethey the same gender?) you take them out, train them up.. They each get 120 points of experience.. so you now add that to their strength.. NOW they have 420 strength!!! so you breed those two.. wait three days, and deliver the babies...
you continue this, to level 42 / gen 9 ..... OK!! Now what?
lets say you hit gen 9 and level 42 and your babies have 1K strength.. but.. all their other stats are still Very low, in fact, the same as the original two parents had... With perhaps, a few points gained from breeding... in order to continue from this point.. you must BACK Breed the level 9's with level 1's...
Wait... If i do that.. wont the babies LOSE a lot of the experience???
Yep...
You HOPE, that your level 9's each have 3 breeds on them, because you need to back breed to the babies...
First back breed.. your babies gain half the str you added.. so they will quickly jump to 500+ str.. but.. thats a ways from 1000 isnt it...
Deliver the babies, train them up, and ADD the exp points where you want them.. preferably to something other than str, IF the 9's you had still have breeds left on them... NOW, you back breed to the 9's again (After the delay wears off)(Were they the right Gender?)
NOW, the babies str will have jumped to 750 ish, and they will have gained half the exp points in whatever the other area was you put them into... Do your 9's still have any breeds left on them?? You hope so, because you need to back breed them AGAIN... if you CAN back breed again.. your new babies will jump in str once again by about another 125 points... to around 875ish...
IF.. you had no more breeds on the 9's then you return to breeding them normally, and adding the points to their stats as you go..
You will have to back breed about three times, the 9's on the third go around should be very close to Max... However!!!! As you get stronger and stronger pets.. your chances of having one of the babies come out STERILE increases... this will set you back at least One generation.. perhaps three or four generations, depending on the amount of breeds left on the parents.. So be ready and plan for it!!

I know this is long... But its not nearly as long as working pets up to Max level...

I also must say, that everyone has their own methods, their own beliefs, and their own specific means of advancing/maxing their lines.. you each have to see what works best for you.. it takes TIME, and plan on at least one Mil output with very little return until you begin to get close to max.. you can sell the non max babies if they are getting good for a reduced price to newer players to help offset the total costs...
Plan on weeks, and even months of breeding, before you can post in chat, that you are selling MAX pets!!

Some pets, MAX much easier than others...
NOBLES, do not use mana, and thus, are MAX without ever spending a point on their mana.. Good breeders MAX int, even if they dont need it, because it helps with EvalInt when being attacked..(Supposedly).., Stamina, Str, Dex etc.. But they DO save some points in the mana area.
Some pets start out with High strength, or high hit points etc, making it COST less experience points to MAX them. so pay attention to the required overall Exp points needed to be spent to MAX the pet of your choice.. if you are impatient.. DONT start with freshly tamed mules!! Every stat they have needs to be added to.. Over 3000 Exp points, NOT counting the loss back breeding..
When someone new yells at me about the cost of my mules.. It makes me angry because they are yapping with no knowledge..
I TRY to understand... they have no CLUE what it takes to get those mules to 1100 HP, 550 Stamina, and 1100 Mana... So i posted this to point them at when the next one blats out that I am taking advantage of him/her...
i also saw someone yapping at Mr.J about his prices not long after they snapped at me....and felt a bit better knowing I wasn't alone. LOL

No,, we have not yet even begun to explain the application of ointments and backbreeding for EXTRA max pets...

Anyone else who breeds..
Feel FREE to correct me for any errors you may see and add anything you wish!! I just wanted to drop a post in so those who are yelling loudest about the price of max pets will know what I / WE have gone through to get them there!!!

Also... I payed 500K ea for my pets when i first started here.. (1543 days and counting) so you new players who are ticked... be glad the prices are where they are!!
