Spring Quest 2013!

Post by +Nyx »

Hi all,
After *much* hassle due to a problem with the XML quest system and even *more* testing, re-testing, re-re-testing, and banging of heads on keyboards, the Spring quest is finally ready and open!

To begin the quest, speak with Rufus the Gardener's Apprentice near the giant tree to the North of Lakeshire.

Please actually read the quest books and pay attention to what the NPCs tell you. This will prevent you having to spam world chat asking for help for information that is already available to you. I went to the trouble of coding the information in, the least you can do is read it :P

This quest can be repeated every 4 hours and will be open until approximately June 1st. There are 34 total rewards, which are on display on the rooftop next to the reward NPC.

Thanks again Nyx for another great quest. :)

TIP: Always wear a helmet when coding. Helps prevent embarrassing marks on the forehead when you bang it off the keyboard.

I took the quest before putting my daughter on the school bus. When I got back, the book was missing from backpack and now I can't get another one. Is the book on a time limit? Just curious.

Yeah Piper the book is most likely on a time limit, I believe the quest is repeatable every 4 hours. Nyx wanted to say thank you for an excellent job, despite a little shouting match with my computer the quest was immensely fun. I loved my little ponies when I was a kid. Lol. Very nice job. :)

That was incredibly involved, it's no wonder it took some extra time. You guys outdid yourself on the rewards again as well. Not enough lockdowns to show off all the lovelies.

We assumed that as well once we discovered is missing. Only reason she commented on it is because the book clearly says withing "NEVER EXPIRES" so we didn't know if it was a glitch, bug, or intended.

All quest books default to 'never expire' even if they are temporary. The problem is that there are only so many characters of XML code you can use for a given NPC, and the first quest NPC and book are at absolute maximum. So, I can't squish in any more code in order to set the actual expiration time.

Make sense +Nyx. Don't want anyone to think we were complaining. Just pointing out something we thought 'might' be a glitch.

Loving the quest btw. :)

Though I can't think of a logical reason why... I've noticed that my Beehives haven't reset for today. And I've spoken to several others that the same has happened to. Is there something in this new quest that might interfere with Beehives?? I'm heading to bed soon for the night, and will check them again in the morning. And post if they have reset by then. (The should have reset at the 9pm (EST) server save. It's now 10pm (EST).)

Checked my Bees again this morning. They still have no reset. (8am EST) This is about 11 hour after when they should have. I was hoping it was just a delay due to adding the new quest, but it appears as though something in the new quest (Or something else that was added about the same time) in preventing Beehives from their daily resets.

Sounds fun. When I can figure out how to log on again, I'll give it a shot.
