*Update*

Not sure if anyone is still attempting this or not but Vholodim's idea got me curious to see if I could do this even with a semi noob character, so now I am getting hooked about this challenge. For anyone who is interested, just a little update on what my character has accomplished or failed at.

- He has gained 11 strength, 4 dex and 2 int since I started this.
- He finally realized that using cleric spells requires no training, so almost all gold won goes to tithing. Angel Form makes a huge difference when you are running around with 60 hp or less. Purge is also leagues ahead of depending on the lesser cure potions you get off of Ettins. :P
- Also he has been buying aids off of the healer in Delucia and Trinsic, so working on healing skill with them.
- Although he has found pets to be only a limited asset, he scored a major item by getting an 80 use leash by doing a taming bod from the NPC in Delucia. Subsequent bods have only yielded at this point, worthless leather. Of course, the gold form them helps for tithing and insurance.
- He had a bad day yesterday by dying 4 times (2 umms, 2 savages) Although Savages look like a good source of aids, too many magic casters in there for this characters level.
- Remembered shortcut to Delucia through blue portal located inside Brit Graveyard.
- When killing Orcs, don't forget to clam a candle off of them. Invaluable when walking through Delucia Passage or Brit Sewers. That was definitely a challenge in the sewers, even with a candle. (yes, I play in dark nights mode)

Upcoming plans/goals
A banished person needs to make use of every opportunity. Pride needs to take a back seat. So, I have two main things he is going to try on next venture.
1. Hang around an active Champ Spawn and claimall some of the final candle creatures hoping they will drop something useful.
2. Hangout in Twisted Wield and hope someone doesn't claim what he kills like my main character saw the other day. I know he will die, but a rez at ankh and stealth back to claim body should do the trick. Of course, that plan may be a long and boring waste of time, but the payoff could be a major score as finding decent armor is nigh on impossible right now.

For those of you who are wondering why I should do all this, because it is fun and definitely challenging. My main goal is to be able to make this character have the ability to travel Felucca without fear of Umms. Anything else can be ran away from. :woot:

I am trying this now. Started with a brand new character. 50 Hiding, 40 Fencing and 10 Tactics. Little did I know I would lose my dagger within the first hour. Since then I have been wrestling bunnies in Delucia. I have found the best place to macro skills up in Delucia is near the old hotel near the cave entrance (upper left corner). Planning to macro hiding and stealth here before too much else. Yes, I hate umms ..... I for one will not rely on other players kills or loot unless it is another of my play style here. Kind of defeats the purpose. Only magery I will use is what the game allows, meaning i think cleric spells are ok, and magery scrolls are as well, as long as i find them on kills.

I think that the taming route may be a good thing as you definately need all the friends you can get. Have to get an edged weapon soon! I do plan to use my skill ball, but only on a skill that I would be able to macro in relative safety, so it just saves some time.

Also, planning to get stealing up. Might be able to get some cool stuff without having to actually kill something. I found the dock near Skara Brae has a person just sitting there with a snoopable backpack and gold in it. Might have to macro snooping there as it is a relatively safe spot. Good luck to all those who are trying this out!

Update, you can train the following skills in delucia: Animal Lore, Animal Taming, Anatomy, Veterinary, Swordsmanship, Healing, Forensic Evaluation. I was able to successfully steal myself a full set of bone armor and a kryss! Now I am killing off all the low level mobs I stole stuff from so they replenish their backpacks in the new spawn. Still haven't gotten any tools yet from Skeletons or Orcs. Will be moving up to trolls and lizardmen soon.

Need to work on Macroing skills that build Strength and Dex. I am thinking that starting a character with 50 Stealing, 49 Lockpicking might be best assuming lockpicks can be found in loot. Most macroable skills can be done safely in either Delucia or Vesper. I usually opt for a top floor of a bulding just to be sure. Haven't died once macroing ... so far...

well, runic tools?

you have a mage shop in fel.
summon up a friendly deamon, that can take of the umms aswell.
and few deamons might get you past the danger of ore elementals, just lock the skill.
you have a banker at the newbei champ.

I pop in once in a while but Relysis is attempting it now. Just a note - it s fun, extremely challenging and a lot harder than you can imagine. If you decide to do it, give your character some love..like a taming skill or stealth skill though you can find a corner to train that somewhere. Also, I suggest if you are considered banished, you should be allowed at least a candle and a dagger to start. My char had stealth, taming (60), stealing skill and that's it. Good luck and plan on doing a lot of walking and dying. :]

Come on down to Ummsbane Haven! (Name made up and safety not guaranteed)

For those who have been banished, I found this to be a nice little home camp, especially when just starting out your horrible life of solitude. It's a gated community with free tent housing and a convenient ankh. Located just northwest of the Trammel gate, it's also a short trek to the Delucia graveyard gate (banker and tamer available). It's a mostly safe umm-free environment for training up hiding and stealth with plenty of trees to dagger-hack for camping stats. To the west through the mountain passage you can find several low level mobs including skeletons for some early bone armor gear. Just east of our nice little community is the abandoned Britain warrior's guild. The rooftop training dummies will get your fencing skill to 25 before attempting to slaughter innocent farm animals.

Sisyler was banished without the ability to train in other facets, use the skill ball, buy/use items obtained in other facets, use ethy mounts, receive assistance from other players, or use cleric spells. Her starting skills included taming, healing, and enough tinkering to craft a kit. She has currently defeated 6 gargoyles on her quest for a runic tinker tool, and the search continues. One difficult first step for me was obtaining a decent weapon, with only the dagger at my disposal. I used Cygnus' orc tip to acquire several basic weapons. For training up parry, shields may also be obtained from the nearby bandit camp (also very tough without at least a full set of bone armor). As mentioned, Delucia is great for skeleton hunting.

Alone in the woods, spirit speak is closest thing the banished have to an ally.

i love the idea. just thinking what if i started a tinker/miner? what do i get to take with me (do i even get tink tools if that's my profession?)? Id like to see a rule set for this challenge, some guidelines. Love the idea a lot, might start it up if bored.

Had to try this. I started off with blacksmithing and taming.

Day 1:
My banishment began with a screaming run away from the tram portal to the northwest. Unfortunately my trusty pack llama was not as lucky as I, so I am alone. I have holed up in a small abandoned house near a farm. This has afforded me the protection needed to hone my skills of hiding in a corner and crying.

Day 2:
As I have GM'ed whimpering...I decided to perhaps work on something more useful. I have learned to hide rather well and dared to stick my head out the door once. I heard a noise and went back to hiding in the corner.

Day 3:
I befriended a small malnourished wolf that was near the door to my small sanctuary. I hope he sees me as a friend and not a meal he can't quite kill yet. I shall study him and hopefully learn to befriend larger creatures.

Updates to come.

I think I've seen your wolf, Atomos! I'll be hanging out in the haven if you need a friend... Wanted to add that we can now bank in Britain instead of walking to Delucia. Hooray! There is also a healer that will train swordsmanship and healing.

Pie, I posted my personal rules above. Not that they're any good or to go by, but they haven't yet pushed me across the line from challenging to frustrating yet, so it's working out. I don't think any build starts with a tinker kit, but not sure I'd want to anyway. Given the lack of tools, the "end-game" drive/goal for banished characters is basically to obtain a runic tinker kit. Working towards that without any crafting really enhances the survival aspect. I'm curious if anyone is interested in starting with a mage (has a spellbook). I wouldn't consider that cheating. Given the difficulty of finding spell scrolls and reagents, it doesn't seem like it would give any particular advantage. Even better, it would finally be viable to play as a mage on uoex.

I also really like Birko's banishment including a small boat. That would open up a lot of exploration, may do that myself. Although if playing a mage it may give too much of an advantage, as Cygnus did find a reagent vendor reachable by ship.

Relysis - was that you that stopped by the house for a minute? Alas, my wolf did not survive the first encounter with an ettin. I moved to Del for the skellies just inside the town. Now I have a full set of armor...and not the strength to wear it. I'm enjoying the difficultly level so far.

I have decided that this could be a fun challenge as well, so I have made a new character as well :)

I started her with 40 taming, 50 hiding, and 10 tinkering, in hopes to get a tinker kit. No luck :(
I figured anything attainable in Fel would be game, so when I make it to a banker, I will use my skill ball for something currently undecided.

Day 1 - I started out in the fel entrance, well set to practice hiding from passersby when I happened upon an ingenious idea!
I would follow the next person out in hopes I would not be targeted by the revenants i discovered outside the gate to the world earlier in the day. I mounted my trusty pack llama and practiced hiding until my decoy arrived. When the moment arrived, i followed out the gate and headed northward as fast as my llama could carry me. SUCCESS!! I decided to take to the woods northwesterly as to stay out of sight on the trail and eventually came to an empty cabin by a field to take shelter. As i practiced hiding, I started to try talking to the dead. nonsense, really, but there's no one else to talk to out here. I give it a go. Studying my llama. As night falls, I retire on one of the dusty cots in the tiny cabin.

Day 2 - With a little more practice, I have noticed I can sometimes heal my wounds by contacting the spirit world. This could be a useful skill!! I wonder if it's real, or is the solitude making me crazy. Was i really injured? I can't remember. My llama doesn't seem too happy with me, so I ride out to where I remembered a possible apple tree location near a dungeon entrance. Alas, I was mistaken. Must have been some other land... another life?? Maybe just psychosis from the solitude? at any rate, I still need to find some food for my llama. I fear, as she outweighs me, that she would crush me if i kept her in this cabin, starved. A very nice man with the ironic name of "War" stopped by for some conversation and gave me some bone armor. I think. Maybe it was a dream? I have armor though. I decided to leave the cabin with this armor and see if i can find some apples. I leave the llama inside so I can try to sneak around the trail I was on yesterday. I need to find some food for myself and my llama. What a journey!! The trail was mostly safe, but when I came upon a city called "Britain", it seemed to be overran by undead!! I attempted to talk to a tinkerer about purchasing some tools, but he tried to eat my face off!!! Luckily i ran away and was able to hide around the corner. I heard some murmuring inside the building i was leaned up against, so I journeyed around and opened the door to find a lovely lady banker :) We chatted for some time about nothing, and on my way out the door i spotted an apple tree, but that terrible tinkerer was out there. I tricked him into running around the building so i could hide again. While he was on the other side, I picked all the apples i could hold and ran back to my llama in the cabin. Having some contact was nice, but that city is scary. I need to be better at sneaking around, that's for sure. So I resolved to practice hiding and sneaking until I am out of apples... maybe talk to some dead people for a while.

Heather Holiday

UPDATE - Returning from the bank seems more difficult than arriving. I was beaten so bad twice that i was knocked into a dream state where all I saw was black and white. Luckily I found a healer in that city to help with my condition. Beware!! There are creatures out there you cannot run from!
