Game crashing a lot in Britain

Game crashes all the time when I'm walking in Britain center, for example near the bank. Other places include when going to the Taming Forest.

It is always at the same coordinates, and it's only in the 3D client. When I log back in, immediately crashes again.

The only fix is:
Opening 2D client
Logging in
Moving to another spot (can even be a few steps away from the crash spot)
Closing 2D client
Opening 3D client
Placing all windows again etc

This is very tiring and I would like to know if others have this problem?

The 2D client is too small for me to see, I don't have super eyesight, and the 3D client is such a relief on my eyes. I love the game and would love to keep enjoying it. Played it ten years ago and now am back for some good old love.

The system I'm using is Windows 8.
All settings are correct, I have tried:
- Run as Admin (Both Razor and UO)
- Run with WinXP SP3 support
- Reinstalling (Both Razor and UO)

I'm not sure what else to try or do!? I hope someone has experience with these kind of crashes.

The 3D client is not supported here, and this is one of the primary issues players running the 3D client anyway will experience. To improve your gaming experience here on Excelsior, I highly recommend you switch to the 2D client.

Are there any other ways I can improve the visuals of the game?

I tried setting the resolution to a higher size through Razor, but it didn't completely work out. When I play the game in Full-screen (2D-client), the computer only shows the 800x600 portion of the 1024x768 rendered game.

I absolutely love this Shard and it would be great if I could somehow improve some visual aspects of the game on my computer..

What I've done for my own setup is tell razor to stretch the game client window, then I run it maximized. You can also increase the font size of the game via the options, and change the chat colors via [c. You can even override other players' chat colors so they're all easier to see.

Hi Marinus - there are a few different options I'm aware of for changing your game screen size (and probably others that I'm not aware of). I'd think that at least one of them should help you out with the 2D visibility problem you had.

First: if you connect to the server through Razor, it's really easy to change this. More Options tab ---> Force Game Size. Make sure the box is checked and enter the resolution you desire. For me, 900x675 is as big as I can go without getting grey/black areas in the corners but it's different for everyone depending on their monitor/cpu/graphics card/et cetera.

Second: if you don't want to or can't use Razor to connect, you can change it in-game. Open your paperdoll (Alt+P), click on the Options button, and then the symbol that looks like an open eye (right side, second down from top). Check the 1024x768 Full screen resolution option and then check Use full screen display. --- If that still isn't big enough for you, you can go into your Excelsior folder and open the uo.cfg file with Notepad, find the FullScreenRes= line, manually enter either 1152x864 or 1280x1024, and save it. If you do it that way, try not to open your Options menu in-game again because doing so will make the screen size revert back to 640x480 and you'll have to redo this.

Hey thanks, it's indeed just the Razor resolution that I can adjust. It's only thing that helps a bit.

When it comes to looking in the backpack, it's terrible for me, but I've got to get used to that, it's the same in the 3D client.
(I'm a hardcore Diablo 2: MedianXL player since the beginning, so, it's very different when comparing gear icon sizes).

My resolution is set to 1024x768 and works fine this way, just have to dive head-first into the monitor to see my backpack

It's impossible to make it work with a smaller system screen resolution as I'm using WIndows 8 Bootcamp on the newest Macbook Pro Retina 15". Any resolution below the max (2880*something) looks very blurred.

Its understandable why you would like to use the 3d client but it Just has not been supported here. All the cusomized graphics are based off of the 2d client. You are crashing in 3d most likley due to coming across something that is using some of the cusomized graphics and the client is not able to render it due to no data available.

Using razor to force your "Game Play area" above the 800x600 works good along with the other suggestions that were given with changing the font size. Unfortunatily these are the limitations we get with playing in a 2d world
