"You can't use an axe on that"
"You can't use an axe on that"
OKay, so I've tried every way of chopping logs into boards. It just doesn't want to do it.
Searched around the web to find an answer, found nothing useful. Visited a gazillion tinkers and carpenters, they didn't sell any special tools for this?
Tried 4 types of axes, hatchets, if not more, tried equipping it, tried using it unequipped.
Thing is, I can chop logs from trees perfectly, my lumberjacking skill is superhigh, but then when I want to chop the logs into boards, the game tells me I can't use my axe on the logs. It's just normal wood, nothing special.
How do I process my logs into boards?
I have found many resources saying you need to use 'any' axe on the logs to make them into boards. But none of the axes work on it.

Re: "You can't use an axe on that"
Buy a wood worker keys put logs in and withdraw them as boards. No need for tools
In-game name: Drakis.
Re: "You can't use an axe on that"
A carp tool will let you make boards, if you don't have a woodworkers key.
Re: "You can't use an axe on that"
Yes, I've been through all the carpenters I could find, but they just sell a shield (why?) and no carp tool! I also visited a lot of tinkerers, but no tools.Jahn wrote:A carp tool will let you make boards, if you don't have a woodworkers key.
How much would these woodworkers keys cost? I am still quite a new player and I have not found any keys I could afford yet. Besides the Spellcasters keys.
Any way of getting affordable keys, or a place where enemies drop these kind of things?
Re: "You can't use an axe on that"
Keys run 50k I think, but otherwise you can get carpentry tools by typing "[exex" in game and under the tools tab you can either bid or buyout the carpentry tools. They're sitting at 2 gold per use at the moment. You'll have to put gold into your [exex account before you can buy, which is done by dropping gold/checks onto an [exex deposit box (one at the Britain bank or in town center). You can also make them if you have ingots and tinkering (make the saw).
Hope this helps!

Alright, I would like to use the way that it uses the tools, as I imagine it also progresses my carpentry skill. I am not into finding ways 'around'.heyyo wrote:Keys run 50k I think, but otherwise you can get carpentry tools by typing "[exex" in game and under the tools tab you can either bid or buyout the carpentry tools. Also, as I just died again, I guess I'll stick to just producing things in order to get more wealthy and skillful for now

do some escort quests. Most (if not all) are located right next to the world teleporters in cities.

Yeah, I do them every time I get the chanceAsmodean wrote:do some escort quests. Most (if not all) are located right next to the world teleporters in cities.

Just made a leveling weapon, curious how strong it will be when it's ~lvl 40. Will take some time.
I also bought woodworkers keys, and then I thought, 'hey' I can also buy metalworkers keys ofcourse. But sad enough the keys don't make boards out of every type of wood, and they sure don't make ores into ingots. So I guess I still have to level up my mining and lumberjacking.
Wanted to train mining with a macro, but I don't have a mobile forge, so I can't use the macro's I found..
There are no Mobile Forges available for a few days already since I started checking the vendor site.

Note: AFK mining will land you in jail. Don't do it
Cyberpope mining radar is good.
- single click will mine all of a single location
- stores ore colours you've found
- interface makes it easier to mine (avoids "cannot see that location" which i seem to get more often than not)
I use bag of holding and run a razor macro that executes a razor organizer agent to place ore into bag of holding.
I'm sure you could do a similar thing with a pack animal and razor macro "drag by type" "press enter" "drop pack animal"
maybe razor even lets you use pack animal as organizer target bag.
I found that mining ore veins gives you better gains, so find a rune library with all the ores and copy the books.

While you shouldn't afk Mine and it should be punished with jail for doing so, that is not the case.
- 1st time: 1 hour restriction from gathering resources.
- 2nd time: 24 hours restriction from gathering resources.
- 3rd time: 72 hours restriction from gathering resources.
- 4th and further: 120 hours restriction from gathering resources.
Direct from the Codex +Colibri provides.

Before I came back to the forums, this is exactly what I did

And yes, I had set my (maxed) pack lama as a bag in Razor. After that I could even melt directly from it's pack.
Now I'm just playing and getting more stats, but soon I will return to Blacksmithing. It's okay to do. Also found a Gargoyles Pickaxe, will try to get more, apparently it raises the ore vein's ore level by 1.
I have not been able to find a prospectors tool, so the ore finding doesn't work somehow. All the mining radar gives me is question marks. Any idea/tips on how to improve that?
Re: "You can't use an axe on that"
Yeah...
I found the same problem when i returned to UO and delved into the script to figure it out... turns out it is rather sensible.
If you use a garg pick (or prospectors?) it raises the ore by 1 so it disables ore colour saving.
If you enable "halt on coloured ore" it will update straight away, otherwise it will correctly save the ore location but not update the display until after the location has been depleted (shows red). The next time you visit that spot it will show the correct colour.
