Hi guys, I am having something weird. Recently switched over to the gear I had been saving up for, a 1-hander and a shield...
I was under the impression, that using a shield would give me more safety, and an extra slot for more stats. My shield gives me extra dex, as does my weapon, so this was a win-win situation. At least, I thought it would be.
As now turns out, I get hit way more often with 1-hander and shield, which is a COMPLETELY unrealistic effect. How can this be? A swift sword and a good shield, be less safe than such a heavy Halberd?
Someone suggested me to get my Bushido up to 120 and that this would negate the effect of using a 1-hander and shield. However, when using the skill calculator over at stratics, it doesn't seem to be helping to get 120 Bushido.
Can anyone help me clarify what is what and how this works? I'm completely confused.
Also, if indeed getting bushido to 120 works, how to do that? I have been trying to use it with training on my pets, but they wont attack me so it doesn't proc the momentum strike, also using a trainer doesn't seem to work..
Using shield is worse than 2-hander?
Re: Using shield is worse than 2-hander?
Like people recalling around casting flamestrike on balrons is 100% realisticwhich is a COMPLETELY unrealistic effect

Heres a good read for you: http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/parrying.php
Pay attention to the part that says:
When you have a lot more hit points, it doesn't matter much, and i have both skills at 120. But when you don't have 220 dex, or over your comfort level of hp, (depends on what you're fighting), it makes a more noticeable difference.Note that if you are using a shield, the Bushido skill will actually lessen your chance to block an attack.
Re: Using shield is worse than 2-hander?
Alright, I could ofcourse read that, but it's weird that bushido causes a negative effect in a game where as a new player you are not told about those things. I have the original UO guide from decades ago (when UO first came out, I think somewhere in 2001?) and it doesn't even mention Bushido
So, the only thing I can do now is raise Bushido and Parrying to 120? As I cannot just unlearn Bushido obviously since you can have 'all skills' maxed on this Shard.
I hope I can find myself a parrying PS soon, probably cost me all I have ://
Actually the only one I found cost 850k, something I don't just have as a new player..

Re: Using shield is worse than 2-hander?
Bushido doesn't work here like the way it says on stratics. If you do a forum search, there have been many debates and many tests about this.
It is my belief and I think most peoples that the best is to have 120 Bushido 130 parry, use a 1 hander and a shield.

Alright, so, getting Parry up to 120 and then using those pots from either exex or balrons to get parry to 130?Melkor wrote:Bushido doesn't work here like the way it says on stratics. If you do a forum search, there have been many debates and many tests about this.

I have found a parrying scroll for 800k... Is that a reasonable price? It seems very expensive. I already bought a Bushido 120 PS so thats covered, only have to level it up further. I figure raising parry/bushido is more important than raising swordmanship at this point.
Re: Using shield is worse than 2-hander?
You Should be able to get a parry for 600k i think without too much trouble. Maybe even less.Marinus84 wrote:Alright, so, getting Parry up to 120 and then using those pots from either exex or balrons to get parry to 130?Melkor wrote:Bushido doesn't work here like the way it says on stratics. You are right, use elixirs to get from 120 to 130.
I would make it my priority to get 130/120 before anything else, especially if you are getting hit too much.

Well then, been asking in world chat, but nobody reacting so I guess there are none for sale now. Except for the overpriced one in Town Hall

If anyone reads this and has a Parry 120 PS, let me know, my username is Patronatus ingame

Re: Using shield is worse than 2-hander?
Managed to get Bushido up to 120 now and Parry to 130 thanks
Time to get violent I guess
Next will be my offensive skills that will be maxed. Swordsmanship, Anatomy, and maybe Arms Lore?
