Client Problem
Client Problem
I would like to try out this shard, but the default client from the download link on the homepage does not work. It wont start at all. I get an error telling me that my computer is out of memory which is funny seeing as my system runs 16gb of RAM and 50Gb paging file size. Is there any way I can run the regular classic client on this shard? That client works for me like a charm.
Re: Client Problem
Okay So I fixed the out of memory problem by closing all of my background processes. Now it just hangs at logging into shard. This is really too bad, this seemed like a nice shard.
Re: Client Problem
take a look at your login.cfg file Make sure its going to shard.uoex.net. Port 60
mine reads
;Loginservers for Ultima Online
LoginServer=shard.uoex.net,60
might want to go ahead and get razor while youre setting it all up. You can put those settings in there. Sorry you had trouble getting in but I suspect it will be worth the trouble when you get to play.

Re: Client Problem
yeah my login.cfg is pointed towards the server. I tried logging in with, and without razor, and also with UOsteam with the same result. Either I get the out of memory error or it hangs on logging into shard. That is why I was wondering if it would be possible to maybe use a different client version. I have several different clients installed so if its just a matter of moving custom art files I can probably do it.
Re: Client Problem
Do you use a firewall? I use comodo internet security and i have the same problems when I reinstall windows. Must add UO as an exception in firewall, then the problem is solved
Try disabling/unnistalling antivirus/firewall, to be sure if this is the problem.

Re: Client Problem
Not sure if u found a fix yet but. Make sure u are running razor/steam and uo as admin and in
Xpsp3 compatability mode. Ensure razor and steam are not using defualt settings
In steam u have to manually point it to your actual client file the 2nd has to be
Pointed at your ultima online-excelsior folder. If using user protection settings on vista and up it may
Be waiting for u to allow it to connect thru the firewall. Sometimes i would never get
The gump to allow. Let us know how goes it and we can try some other things

Re: Client Problem
The firewall thing I haven't tried yet but it shouldn't be an issue as I run other client versions just fine on other shards. My compatibility settings are set for razor and steam.
I tried to connect to this shard using a Mondain's legacy version and it logged in but many custom models and hues were missing and client abruptly crashed when I entered a custom map. So I have it narrowed down to the excelsior client. That seems to be the culprit. It looks like I might have to just use ML and move all custom models, hues, and art files over to the other client from the excelsior folder if I want to play.

Patching your client yourself will not work out as there are hundreds of custom art and other things added to the client along with other file changes to make new weapons work and such.
If you are running on windows 7 or 8 Make sure you run things in the xp compatability mode and (run as administrator ) (especially if you installed the game into your /program files (x86) directory. The client adds a few small config files to the directory on the fly in the bkgd and w/o the right permission it wont boot up.
I am no longer an active player on uoex but i visit the forums on a regular basis still so if you need any pointers or help just ask. (the shard is rather specific with the custom client needing the specific version available on the site. as it is not just a matter of a few hues that have changed. )

Re: Client Problem
Well I haven't tried yet but if it doesn't work then I probably wont be able to play on this shard. The prepatched client simply doesn't work. I have followed all advice given in this thread and no matter what I do its either out of memory error or just doesn't log in.lestatzero wrote: Patching your client yourself will not work out as there are hundreds of custom art and other things added to the client along with other file changes to make new weapons work and such.
My current shard uses the same client version also with lots of custom content. I have gotten Mondain's legacy to work with that, so we'll just have to see.
Re: Client Problem
Hi,
You could technically "patch" the client yourself using a base install of ML, and then copying over top of it all the updated files - including the client.exe from our prepatched client. This would include the Music folder, and large number of the files from the main UO folder. You can identify them by sorting by date modified, and then checking the subfolders for modified files. Then you'd paste all those files over top of a generic installation of ML, telling it to replace any duplicates. It is important that you have a fully and properly patched client if you will play here, otherwise you will not be able to view much of the custom content, and will experience random crashes.
As for it failing to log in, that isn't a problem with the client, that'd be some issue with your connection settings, firewall, etc. We have had a few players here and there hailing from certain countries that have their own types of firewalls who were not able to connect without some advanced fiddling. It doesn't seem like that is the case for you, but I have no idea.
Another thing we have seen on very rare occasion is a player trying to make an account that shares the account name of a banned account, as I understand it that long hangup at the connection stage is what is seen when that happens. I doubt that's the case here, but again can't hurt to try a new username.
If you're still having problems after this, try sending an email to ca@oex.net - that's +Colibri, the owner, and he's pretty good at figuring these sorts of things out. You might have to wait a few days for a reply but he'll get back with you when he can.

Re: Client Problem
okay thanks, I will try all of these things. Everyone here has been so helpful in trying to resolve my issue. It would be a shame to give up now!

Re: Client Problem
You would think that would be the culprit eating up all my vram, but I am running a fresh install of win7 only a couple days old.dreamstalker wrote:Another thing i have found to cause the out of memory

Re: Client Problem
Windows Update seems to eat up a lot of vram also. I had a similar problem on my Windows 8.1 machine, but after installing all available updates and then completely shutting Windows Update off, I haven't had any issues starting UO.
