First steps to gear?

How should I start obtaining weapons and armor that will be useful and somewhat decent.

Now it's 2 years old, so maybe there have been a few changes, but I can't really know, so maybe some more enlightened veterans can add on that information.

I'd say that this guide is comprehensive. I am at the stage now of doing GoC (just finished my first completion) and I'd say it's a good guide to follow. I didn't use bees as I can't guarantee that I can log on every day and they may just all die, but there is a lot of good information here that makes sense and helps you to build a perspective of where you are and what you can aim for. Some of this may change when Touria and Elysium are released, but I'd say this is a really good place to start.
